Vaginal microbiota composition in pregnant women following cervical conization and radical trachelectomy.

We aimed to provide a comparative analysis of the vaginal microbiota in pregnant women who underwent cervical conization (CZ) and radical trachelectomy (RT) for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or early-stage cervical cancer. We included 114 pregnant Japanese women who underwent CZ group (n = 13), RT group (n = 20), or received no cervical treatments (CON group: n = 81) and cared at Keio University Hospital between 2019 and 2023. The differences in vaginal microbiota during the first, second, and third trimester using V1-V2 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA were investigated. Higher species di

Pregnancy outcome in patients treated with cervical conization for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the causal contribution of conization to premature delivery. METHODS: This was a retrospective, case-control, multicenter study of women who underwent conization in 5 hospitals in the Basque Country (Spain) from 1998 to 2007. Three study groups were established: group A, post-conization infant deliveries; control group B, pre-conization infant deliveries; and control group C, infant deliveries without conization. RESULTS: Comparing group A with group C, there was a higher rate of preterm delivery before 35 weeks (5.3% versus 1.6%), a lower mean birth weight (3156.2g ver

Cervical conization findings in women with dysplastic cervical cytology and normal colposcopy.

A review of 134 cervical conizations performed in a 36-month period showed that 18 were performed on patients with two or more cervical smears showing dysplasia but with essentially negative, satisfactory colposcopic evaluations, including normal colposcopically directed biopsies and endocervical curettings. A histologic diagnosis of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) of various grades was established in 15 (83%) of the 18 conization specimens. Six (33%) of the 18 specimens harbored CIN 3. The histologic diagnosis of a more severe lesion than that indicated on cytology was rendered in fi

Severe cervical dysplasia. Control by biopsies or primary conization? A comparative study.

During the period 1967-75 severe cervical dysplasia was diagnosed in 87 consecutive cases by means of colposcopically directed biopsies of the portio and by cervical curettage. Thirty-eight of the patients were treated, 3-6 weeks after diagnostic biopsy, by conization (conization group) and subsequently followed with smears and colposcopy. The remaining 49 patients (the biopsy group) were followed up at regular intervals by colposcopically directed biopsies of the portio and cervical curettage. The follow-up period for all 87 patients ranged from 9 to 106 months, mean 47.6 months. The groups w

Evaluation of the consistency ratios of cervical smear, cervical biopsy and conization results.

OBJECTIVES: Possible discrepancies between the cervical smear, biopsy histology and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) results of the same patient is a matter of debate in the literature. In this study, we investigate the degree to which these results differ, and the clinical reasons for these differences. MATERIAL AND METHODS: With a retrospective design, cervical smear, cervical biopsy and LEEP results of patients were compared in terms of consistency. One hundred sixty-four patients who underwent till LEEP procedure due to pathologic initial smear and biopsy results between Jan

Conization using the Shimodaira-Taniguchi procedure for adenocarcinoma in situ of the uterine cervix.

OBJECTIVE: The Shimodaira-Taniguchi conization procedure addresses the disadvantages of the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) by using a high frequency current and a triangular probe with a linear excision electrode to extract the tissue as a single informative specimen, without incurring accompanying thermal trauma. The aim of the present study was to analyze the surgical efficacy of the Shimodaira-Taniguchi conization procedure for adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) of the uterine cervix. STUDY DESIGN: At the Osaka University Hospital, conization using the Shimodaira-Taniguchi proced

Can adenocarcinoma in situ of the uterine cervix be predicted before cervical conization?

This study was undertaken to determine the effectiveness of the Papanicolaou (Pap) smear, colposcopically-directed biopsy (CDB), and endocervical curettage (ECC) in preconization detection of adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) of the uterine cervix. Women, whose cervical conization specimens contained adenocarcinoma in situ without any associated invasive lesion at Chiang Mai University Hospital between March 1998 and March 2006, were reviewed. During the study period, fifty-one women who matched the study inclusion were identified. Glandular abnormality was detected by Pap smears in 22 women (43.1%

[Removal of HPV infection of the portio vaginalis by laser therapy of scalpel conization].

Between May 1988 and December 1990, 855 patients were submitted to HPV-hybridisation. HPV 16/18 (10.4%) was detected more frequently (p = 0.0024) than HPV 31/33/35 (6.1%) and was more often associated with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia--CIN--III degrees (p = 0.0014). 42 patients with CIN were examined after treatment with cold-knife conization. PAP-smear, colposcopy and HPV-hybridisation were performed. None of the patients showed signs of CIN after treatment. Only one patient showed an HPV persistence. In three of 7 patients treated with laser conization and four of 12 patients treated w

[Evaluation of cervical conization as a definitive treatment for borderline lesions of the uterine cervix].

Therapeutic efficacy of cervical conization was examined on 93 patients with borderline lesions of the uterine cervix who underwent hysterectomy following conization. No lesions or only minimal residual lesions were found at subsequent hysterectomy when the surgical margins of cone specimens were not involved in the malignant or premalignant lesions. From these results, we concluded that cervical conization could be considered as a therapeutic procedure when the following conditions were fulfilled. Cone specimens are sufficient in size. Both endocervical and exocervical margins are negative. N
