OBJECTIVE: To observe the expression of cyclin D1 and explore its clinical significance in small cell lymphoma. METHODS: Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of CD20, CD45RO and cyclin D1 in 31 formalin- fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue samples of human small cell lymphomas. RESULTS: Twenty-eight cases were categorized into B cell lymphoma and 3 into T cell lymphoma. Only 5 cases of B cell lymphoma had cyclin D1 expression (17.86%) that did not significantly differ between nodal and extranodal lymphomas (P>0.05), indicating the presence of mantle cell lymphoma. Centrocytic lymphoma, or mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), is characterized by a chromosomal translocation t(11;14) (q13;q32) involving the bcl-1 locus on chromosome 11. Cyclin D1 is a cell-cycle regulatory protein essential for G1-S transition and has been identified as a potential transforming gene affected by the translocation. Cyclin D1 has been recognized as an oncogene due to its abnormal upregulation in different types of cancers. Here, we demonstrated that cyclin D1 is SUMOylated, and we identified Itch as a specific E3 ligase recognizing SUMOylated cyclin D1 and mediating SUMO-induced ubiquitination and proteasome degradation of cyclin D1. AIMS: Despite their low individual metastatic potential, thin melanomas (≤1 mm Breslow thickness) contribute significantly to melanoma mortality overall. BACKGROUND: The pterygium is a growth onto the cornea of fibrovascular tissue that is continuous with the conjunctiva, whereas the mechanisms of cell proliferation in pterygium epithelium are unknown.
AIM: To analyse the histopathology and the expression of cell cycle-related molecules in pterygium tissues.
METHODS: Seven pterygia were surgically removed using the bare-sclera procedure, and three normal bulbar conjunctivas were also obtained. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-wax-embedded tissues were analysed by immunohistochemistry with anti-p27(KIP1), cyclin D1 and Ki-67 antibodies.

Immunostaining for cyclin D1 has become essential for the reliable diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). MCL is associated with a poor prognosis and its distinction from other small B-cell lymphomas is clinically important. However, many diagnostic laboratories report problems in finding a reliable method. Invasive lobular carcinoma comprises approximately 10% of human mammary cancers, yet little is known about the molecular basis of this carcinoma. Because cyclin D1 plays a role in the pathogenesis of breast carcinomas of the ductal type, we hypothesized that this confirmed oncogene might also participate in the development of lobular carcinomas. We sought to determine the frequency of cyclin D1 protein overexpression in invasive lobular carcinoma, to investigate the cause of the protein accumulation, and to identify the effects of high levels of the protein on the regulation of the cell cycle.

INTRODUCTION: Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) and unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) are lesions of odontogenic origin. Both lesions are morphologically cysts. However, they are classified as developmental cysts and epithelial odontogenic tumours, respectively. The health-related hazards resulting from long-term exposure to radiation remain unknown. Thus, an appropriate molecular marker is needed to clarify these effects. Opioid receptors and cytokine receptor have been verified to have a functional link and interaction.
