Fabrication of an Antifungal PMMA Denture Nanocomposite Functionalized with Miconazole-Pectin-Silver Nanoparticles against Denture Stomatitis.

Denture stomatitis is a highly prevalent oral mucosal infection caused by Candida biofilm formation on the denture surface. In this study, an antifungal polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) denture nanocomposite (MCZ-P-AgNPs/PMMA) was prepared by incorporating miconazole-loaded pectin-stabilized silver nanoparticles (MCZ-P-AgNPs) into the PMMA matrix. Response surface methodology was used to finalize the synthesis of AgNPs via the pectin-mediated green reduction method. To address the poor aqueous solubility of miconazole, the β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexation strategy was employed. MCZ-P-AgNPs

Evidence-based assessment of temporomandibular disorders in complete denture versus partial denture users: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Dental health and overall well-being are greatly impacted by temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), which encompass a spectrum of illnesses that impact the temporomandibular joint and its surrounding structures. The use of dental prostheses, including complete and partial dentures, is common among individuals with missing teeth. However, the association between denture types and the prevalence of TMD remains a subject of interest and concern in the field of oral health. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Relevant databases were comprehensively searched to identify eligible studies. The search s

Effects of Denture Cleaning Regimens on the Quantity of Candida on Dentures: A Cross-Sectional Survey on Nursing Home Residents.

Oral care involving a denture cleaning regimen is important for reducing the incidence of systemic diseases. However, limited information is currently available on denture cleaning frequencies and regimens. Therefore, the present study investigated the relationship between the number of Candida spp. present on the complete dentures of nursing home residents and cleaning regimens. Residents were surveyed to assess their denture cleaning methods. Plaque was collected by applying a sterile swab to the mucosal surface of each examined complete denture worn by 77 residents, and the Candida spp. col

Evaluation of Patients with Single Dentures Syndrome using Conventional Mandibular Partial Dentures Versus Implant-Supported Partial Overdentures: A Randomized Clinical Trial Assessing the Patients' Satisfaction.

PURPOSE: The clinical condition known as single denture syndrome (SDS), or combination syndrome, or Kelly's Syndrome, is still not well understood and is not widely recognized in the literature or in dental practice. It occurs when a patient has a fully edentulous maxilla and a partially edentulous mandible; it commonly affects individuals who wear a complete maxillary denture, paired with a lower removable partial denture (RPD), which is supported by their remaining front teeth. Then, significant morphological and functional changes in the oral cavity can result from the progressive loss of t

Refining Complete Dentures: Optimizing Results with Enhanced Phonetics and Esthetics.

Tooth loss and subsequent complete denture rehabilitation can profoundly affect a patient's psychological and social well-being. Dentures play an important role in helping individuals regain a sense of normalcy as well as facilitating communication in today's appearance-conscious society. However, common issues with dentures include discomfort while chewing and dissatisfaction with esthetics and speech. Prosthetic rehabilitation for complete denture patients should aim not just at replacing missing teeth but at fully restoring masticatory functions and appearance. This article outlines a simpl

Rehabilitation with removable dentures among the dentate population in Finland.

The information available on the rehabilitation with removable dentures among dentate subjects is contradictory. In the present study, the most common type of rehabilitation was a complete maxillary denture with or without a partial one. Nineteen per cent of men and 27% of women belonged to this category. Partial denture(s) without a complete one were worn by 11% of men and 15% of women. The odds ratio of having partial denture(s) was significantly higher among women, among people with a medium level of income, with a regular dental attendance pattern, and with a shorter distance to the neares
