PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Statins are first-line therapy for lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), particularly in heterozygous patients. We review advances and new questions on the use of statins in FH.
RECENT FINDINGS: Cumulative evidence from registry data and sub-analyses of clinical trials mandates the value of statin therapy for prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in FH. BACKGROUND: Patients with Rett syndrome (RTT) present characteristic regression in communication and hand skills, which eventually leads to intellectual and physical disability. Moreover, caregivers of patients with RTT face stressors related to patients' medical and developmental concerns. OBJECTIVES: Our aim is to critique Australian child maltreatment policy, outline abuse trends and provide data on family risk factors.
METHOD: We identified policy gaps and reviewed family profiles within selective child maltreatment databases. Data sources included international and Australian literature, Queensland Department of Child Safety reports and a research clinical database.

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic lipid disorder that is characterized by severely elevated cholesterol levels and premature cardiovascular disease. Both the heterozygous and homozygous forms of FH require aggressive cholesterol-lowering therapy. Familial combined pituitary hormone deficiency is a rare endocrine disorder. We describe growth patterns of four children (3 females and 1 male) from two families with combined pituitary hormone deficiency. These children received growth hormone at ages ranging from 14.5 years to 19 years. While all the female siblings reached their target height, the male sibling was much shorter than mid parental height. The reasons for sexual dimorphism in growth patterns in these children are unclear.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the opinions of individuals with mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) and their parents regarding the use of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT).
STUDY DESIGN: A validated questionnaire, including hypothetical clinical scenarios about ERT for MPS, was distributed to members of MPS support groups in the United States and Australia.

Familial Mediterranean fever is a disorder characterized by recurrent fever and polyserositis. Continuous prophylactic colchicine therapy has been effective in suppressing attacks in affected adults. From 30 children with FMF, 14 were selected for colchicine therapy. Eight children continued prophylactic colchicine therapy for 29 months (mean) and experienced a marked decrease in the frequency of attacks. Six other children did not comply with the treatment regimen. Although no deleterious side effects were noted, the safety of long-term colchicine administration in childhood is unknown.

Adolescents with anorexia nervosa who have obsessive-compulsive (OC) features respond poorly to family-based treatment (FBT). This study evaluated the feasibility of combining FBT with either cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) or art therapy (AT) to improve treatment response in this at-risk group. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effects and feasibility of integrating music therapy into a family support system (FSS) for adolescent depression.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, 120 adolescents with depression who visited the Wenzhou Seventh People's Hospital between June 2022 and June 2024 were selected and categorized into the music therapy group and a conventional group (60 cases in each group). The conventional group received FSS-assisted treatment and conventional medication, whereas the music therapy group was given music therapy based on the conventional treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Couple violence (CV) affects many, and the consequences of those actions are grave, not only for the individual suffering at the hand of the perpetrator but also for the other persons in the family. Violence often happens among more than just the adults within one family. Even if CV has been thoroughly investigated in the general population very few studies have investigated this objective on a clinical sample, and none of these have included family violence.
AIM: This article identifies and describes the group of clients that have issues of physical couple and family violence.

Families (n = 5,884) received Functional Family Therapy (FFT) provided as part of court-ordered probation services by 11 community sites throughout Florida. Sites provided home-based FFT to families with male (72%) or female (28%) delinquent youth. Juvenile justice courts referred clients to these services in an effort to redirect them away from incarceration. INTRODUCTION: Caregiver intervention studies typically assess whether participants attain general goals (eg, improved mental/physical health) but not their own individual goals. We used goal attainment scaling to evaluate whether participants of a telephone intervention based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) attained their personal goals. We also evaluated treatment compliance and implementation.
METHODS: A sample of 139 family caregivers of people with dementia received 12 telephone sessions over 6 months. Participants personal goals were specified during the first and second sessions.
