Scoping review for pain mitigation during intralesional injections of corticosteroid for hypertrophic scar and keloid treatment.

BACKGROUND: Intralesional corticosteroid injection (ILCSI) has been proven to successfully treat hypertrophic scars (HTSs) and keloids and attain remission in 50% of keloids. Pain is a significant problem with ILCSI, which can affect treatment compliance and effectiveness. To date, many techniques involving ILCSI have been described and used to achieve scar treatment while reducing side effects. The injection technique remains the most widely available method in many healthcare centres. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review explores strategies for alleviating pain while administering ILCSIs for hype

Keloid Scar Resistance to Intralesional Steroid Injections: Should We Look for Foreign Bodies? A Case Report.

Keloid is a challenging pathological condition characterized by abnormal scarring that extends beyond the boundaries of the original wound. Despite the available treatment options, keloid scars remain difficult to manage. This case report discusses a 10-year-old boy with a keloid scar on his neck following branchial anomaly repair surgery. The patient underwent multiple treatments, including triamcinolone injections, cryotherapy, and a pulsed dye laser session, with limited improvement. Subsequently, an X-ray and ultrasound were performed revealing the presence of metallic clips over the surgi

Awake serial intralesional steroid injections without surgery as a novel targeted treatment for idiopathic subglottic stenosis.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: The fibrotic/erythematous appearance of the subglottis in idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS) hints that it might respond to repeated intralesional steroid treatment similar to keloids. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. METHODS: Thirteen iSGS subjects (six treated in-office with serial intralesional steroid injections [SILSI] versus seven treated endoscopically in the operating room [OR] followed by awake SILSI) between October 2011 and April 2017. Forced spirometry was performed before injections and at each follow-up visit (peak expiratory flow [%PEF] and p

Management of postburn perioral contracture using a customized static commissural splint and intralesional injections of triamcinolone.

A perioral facial burn is usually accompanied by a reduction in size of the oral orifice because of the contraction of the healing wound. Perioral contracture leads to microstomia, restricting nutrition, speech, and jaw movements and impairing the esthetic appearance of the face. It is imperative to introduce splints as early as possible to prevent the postburn sequelae. A delay in splinting allows postburn contractures. Overcoming these contractures to regain the size of the stoma requires restructuring of the hypertrophic scar using mechanical force and the biomodification of the tissues. Th

Stellate Hypopigmentation in a Pediatric Patient After Treatment with Intralesionally-Injected Corticosteroid.

BACKGROUND Several factors contribute to keloids in post-operative patients, including skin mechanics, genetics, and inflammatory processes. One of the most widely used treatment modalities for keloidal scars involves the intralesional injection of corticosteroids, such as triamcinolone acetonide (TAC). TAC is a first-line treatment option for keloids due to its proven efficacy and effectiveness in reducing collagen synthesis, glycosaminoglycan synthesis, inflammatory processes, and proliferation of fibroblasts. Some common adverse effects of intralesional corticosteroid injection include loca

Transcervical intralesional vasopressin injection in hysteroscopic myomectomy--description of a new technique.

An original technique of transcervical intralesional vasopressin injection that allowed direct infiltration to submucous myomas under hysteroscopic control is described. Five patients with a symptomatic submucous myoma 1.5-5 cm in size scheduled for hysteroscopic myomectomy were recruited. The time required for vasopressin injection was less than 3 minutes in all cases. The time required for myomectomy ranged from 3 to 32 minutes. Four cases had no fluid absorption, whereas 1 had absorption of 1000 mL. The patient with the longest operative time and fluid absorption had multiple submucous myom
