Hydrogen-bonded complexes and blends of poly(acrylic acid) and methylcellulose: nanoparticles and mucoadhesive films for ocular delivery of riboflavin.

Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and methylcellulose (MC) are able to form hydrogen-bonded interpolymer complexes (IPCs) in aqueous solutions. In this study, the complexation between PAA and MC is explored in dilute aqueous solutions under acidic conditions. The formation of stable nanoparticles is established, whose size and colloidal stability are greatly dependent on solution pH and polymers ratio in the mixture. Poly(acrylic acid) and methylcellulose are also used to prepare polymeric films by casting from aqueous solutions. It is established that uniform films can be prepared by casting from poly

Sodium alginate and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose hierarchical control of surface tension on silk fabrics for clean and efficient inkjet printing.

Silk is widely utilized in high-end fashion apparel, home textiles and other fields due to its excellent comfort and air permeability and moisture permeability. However, inkjet printing on silk typically requires two printings on the front and back side to obtain a good color performance, leading to high process cost and low efficiency. Herein, clean and efficient inkjet printing is achieved using hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/sodium alginate (HPMC/SA) graded to regulate the surface tension of silk. In comparison to traditional inkjet printing process, the process utilizing HPMC/SA graded trea

Potential application of new antimicrobials biological macromolecule of CNT/ZnO-NPs based on hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/shellac as packaging films.

This research aims to prepare a new antimicrobials biological macromolecule packaging film instead of petroleum-based plastic products by crosslinking the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) with shellac and loading it with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs). FTIR and XRD confirmed the successful incorporation of CNTs/ZnO-NPs into the HPMC/shellac- matrix. It was found that loading of CNTs/ZnO-NPs improved the thermal stability of the HPMC films. Different weights of ZnO-NPs (0.08-0.25 %) were loaded onto the film. The uniform distribution of ZnO-NPs within the fil

The effect of mast cell growth factor on peripheral blood granulocyte-macrophage colony-forming cells in methylcellulose in myeloproliferative disorders.

Clonogenic cell culture assay was used to evaluate the effect of mast cell growth factor (MGF) on peripheral blood granulocyte-macrophage (GM) progenitors in 26 patients with myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs). MGF alone had a statistically significant stimulatory effect on GM colony formation, as also did interleukin-3 (IL-3) and GM colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), although the progenitors could form colonies spontaneously as well. When MGF was combined with either IL-3 or GM-CSF the effect was additive and was as great as that achieved with a mixture of IL-3, GM-CSF, G-CSF and IL-6. The

Protocol to study ductal progenitor-like cells from the adult human pancreas using 3D suspension and methylcellulose-based culture systems.

Primary human ductal progenitor-like cells derived from donated pancreas have the potential to serve as a source of therapeutic insulin-producing beta cells for the treatment of diabetes. Here, we present a protocol for studying ductal progenitor-like cells using a good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compatible 3D suspension culture system and a methylcellulose- and Matrigel-based 3D colony assay. We describe steps for dispersing and cryopreserving human pancreatic cells and initiating and maintaining cultures. We then detail how to prepare ductal spheroids or colonies for downstream application

Development of selumetinib-loaded solid dispersion based on low molecular weight methylcellulose for the enhanced solubility, stability, dissolution, and bioavailability.

The poor water solubility and bioavailability of selumetinib sulfate (SEL) limit its clinical potential as a promising anticancer drug. The aim of this study was to develop a solid dispersion (SD) of SEL as a new formulation strategy. Methylcellulose 4 cP (MC 4 cP) and Soluplus® were selected as SD carriers for their high solubility of SEL (>1400 μg/mL at pH 1.2). Furthermore, the low molecular weight MC 4 cP was effective in the solubilization of SEL due to its specific molecular affinity and interaction with SEL. The SDs of SEL/MC 4 cP and SEL/Soluplus® were prepared using the spray drying m
