Microvascular Network Remodeling in the Ischemic Mouse Brain Defined by Light Sheet Microscopy.

BACKGROUND: Until now, the analysis of microvascular networks in the reperfused ischemic brain has been limited due to tissue transparency challenges. METHODS: Using light sheet microscopy, we assessed microvascular network remodeling in the striatum from 3 hours to 56 days post-ischemia in 2 mouse models of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion lasting 20 or 40 minutes, resulting in mild ischemic brain injury or brain infarction, respectively. We also examined the effect of a clinically applicable S1P (sphingosine-1-phosphate) analog, FTY720 (fingolimod), on microvascular network remode

Ocular microvascular alteration in Sjögren syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Sjögren syndrome (SjS) is a systemic disease affecting exocrine, including ocular lacrimal, glands. It is uncertain whether ocular microvascular alterations are associated with this disease. In this study, we evaluated retinal and conjunctival microvascular changes in SjS patients using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: Twelve SjS patients (24 eyes) and 12 normal controls (24 eyes) were recruited to this study. Three-dimensional conjunctival and retinal OCTA images of each eye were captured and microvascular density was calculated. Each image was analyzed b

Ocular microvascular alteration in patients with myocardial infarction-a new OCTA study.

Myocardial infarction is defined as a sudden decrease or interruption in blood flow to the coronary arteries, causing ischemic necrosis of the corresponding cardiomyocytes. It is unclear whether systemic macrovascular alterations are associated with retinal microvascular changes. This study utilized optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to compare variations in conjunctival vascular density and fundus retinal vessel density between patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and healthy controls. This study recruited 16 patients (32 eyes) with MI and 16 healthy controls (32 eyes). The s

Relationships between different measurements of vascularity and clinico-pathological parameters in breast cancer.

Microvascular density has been put forward as an independent prognostic factor in breast cancer, with high levels indicating poorer prognosis. However, various studies have failed to confirm its prognostic value. The reasons for the contradictory results are not known, but it is believed that methodological differences are responsible. To test this hypothesis, we have used four different methods of assessing vascularity (average and highest microvascular density, microvascular volume and image analysis of vascular area) and related them to known prognostic factors in 51 cases of breast cancer

[Age-related changes of microcirculation in pia mater of rats' sensorimotor cortex].

We studied the density of whole microvascular network and separately the density of arterioles in the pia mater of sensorimotor cortex of rats of different ages. Also pial arteriolar reactivity on exposure to norepinephrine or acetylcholine chloride was evaluated. The microvascular density and the arteriolar reactivity in the pia mater were not significantly changed before the age of 12 months. In the age of 22-24 months the density of whole microvascular network decreased 1,7 times at the mean and the density of arterioles decreased 1,2 times. There were no significant changes of pia arteriol

Does sublingual microscopy correlate with nailfold videocapillaroscopy in systemic sclerosis?

In this study, we examine sublingual videomicroscopy and nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) features in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients presenting for routine care. Consented participants met classification criteria for SSc. Sublingual videomicroscopy testing was performed in each subject, followed by a NVC assessment. Sublingual assessment provided a density measurement, red blood cell fraction (RBC fract), and perfused boundary region (PBR) score. NVC evaluator defined nailfold findings as normal; specific changes for "early," "active," and "late" scleroderma pattern; or "non-specific" cha

Evaluation of Microvascular Rarefaction in Vascular Cognitive Impairment and Heart Failure (CRUCIAL): Study Protocol for an Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: Microvascular rarefaction, the functional reduction in perfused microvessels and structural reduction of microvascular density, seems to be an important mechanism in the pathophysiology of small blood vessel-related disorders including vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) due to cerebral small vessel disease and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Both diseases share common risk factors including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and ageing; in turn, these comorbidities are associated with microvascular rarefaction. Our consortium aims to investigate no
