Impact of eptinezumab on work productivity beyond reductions in monthly migraine days: post hoc analysis of the DELIVER trial.

BACKGROUND: Eptinezumab's impact on self-reported work productivity in adults with migraine and 2‒4 prior preventive migraine treatment failures is not fully understood. METHODOLOGY: Electronic diaries captured monthly migraine days (MMDs) reported by patients enrolled in the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled DELIVER trial (NCT04418765). The migraine-specific Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaire, administered at baseline and each monthly visit, was a secondary outcome of DELIVER and used to model changes from baseline in self-reported monthly hours of absenteeism

Menstruation-Related Diseases, Work Performance, and Oral Contraceptive: Nationwide Online Survey.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare the effect of menstruation-related diseases (MRDs), including premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and dysmenorrhea, on work performance (WP). Besides, we investigate whether oral contraceptives (OCs) mitigate these impacts in the general population. METHODS: The data from a nationwide online-based survey conducted in Japan were analyzed (n = 4818). Regression analyses examined the relationship between MRDs and presenteeism or absenteeism and the mitigating effect of OCs. Population-attributable fractions (PAFs) for severe

The Condition of Subjective Daytime Sleepiness and Its Related Decline in Work Productivity Among Daytime Workers.

BACKGROUND: Few have examined the condition of subjective daytime sleepiness in workers and its relation to their work productivity. This study aimed to clarify the association between the presence of subjective daytime sleepiness and work productivity measures, including presenteeism and absenteeism, as well as factors related to the presence of the symptom in daytime workers. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 17,963 daytime workers who attended the annual medical check-up. They were categorized into four groups; the daytime sleepiness group was defined as having only subjective d

Identifying Persons with Axial Spondyloarthritis At Risk of Poor Work Outcome: Results from the British Society for Rheumatology Biologics Register.

OBJECTIVE: First, to test the hypothesis that, among working patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), those who report issues with reduced productivity at work (presenteeism) are at higher risk of work absence (absenteeism), and patients who report absenteeism are at higher risk of subsequently leaving the workforce. Second, to identify characteristics of workers at high risk of poor work outcome. METHODS: The British Society for Rheumatology Biologics Register in Ankylosing Spondylitis has recruited patients meeting Assessment of Spondyloarthritis international Society criteria for axS

Cost of lost productivity in inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis in the year before and after diagnosis: An inception cohort study.

AIM: Existing studies on the cost of inflammatory arthritis (IA) and osteoarthritis (OA) are often cross-sectional and/or involve patients with various disease durations, thus not providing a comprehensive perspective on the cost of illness from the time of diagnosis. In this study, we therefore assessed the cost of lost productivity in an inception cohort of patients with IA and OA in the year before and after diagnosis. METHODS: Employment status, monthly income, days absent from work, and presenteeism were collected at diagnosis and 1 year later to estimate the annual costs of unemployment

Associated factors of low back pain classified by severity and chronicity among care workers: A cross-sectional study.

BackgroundLow back pain (LBP) is a major occupational health problem among care workers. However, few studies have classified LBP by both severity and chronicity or examined associations of health literacy with presenteeism. This study aimed to assess LBP prevalence, classify LBP by severity and chronicity, and identify the associated physical and psychosocial factors. We conducted a secondary exploratory analysis to examine hypothesized indirect associations between health literacy and presenteeism involving psychological distress and LBP-related disability.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was

Correlation between novel checkmark-only headache diary and productivity loss and medication effectiveness in migraine patients.

BACKGROUND: Migraine reduces life quality and work productivity through absenteeism and presenteeism. However, existing paper-based headache diaries have limitations (time-consuming interpretation of heterogeneous entries, inadequate capture of work-related outcomes, etc.). We developed a calendar-style diary with checkmark-only entries to address these shortcomings, while maintaining simplicity for sustained patient adherence. In this single-center retrospective observational study, we assessed whether this format captures important information on patients with migraines attending a specializ

Estimate of the total costs of allergic rhinitis in specialized care based on real-world data: the FERIN Study.

BACKGROUND: Despite the socioeconomic importance of allergic rhinitis (AR), very few prospective studies have been performed under conditions of clinical practice and with a sufficiently long observation period outside the clinical trial scenario. We prospectively estimated the direct and indirect costs of AR in patients attending specialized clinics in Spain. METHODS: Patients were recruited at random from allergy outpatient clinics in 101 health centers throughout Spain over 12 months. We performed a multicenter, observational, prospective study under conditions of clinical practice. We ana

Background, design and conceptual model of the cluster randomized multiple-component workplace study: FRamed Intervention to Decrease Occupational Muscle pain - "FRIDOM".

BACKGROUND: Several RCT studies have aimed to reduce either musculoskeletal disorders, sickness presenteeism, sickness absenteeism or a combination of these among females with high physical work demands. These studies have provided evidence that workplace health promotion (WHP) interventions are effective, but long-term effects are still uncertain. These studies either lack to succeed in maintaining intervention effects or lack to document if effects are maintained past a one-year period. This paper describes the background, design and conceptual model of the FRIDOM (FRamed Intervention to Dec

Estimation of the indirect costs associated with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis in Spain: an analysis from a societal perspective.

PURPOSE: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with functional impairment and a relevant socioeconomic burden. While direct healthcare costs have been partially described in Spain, indirect costs related to loss of work productivity remain insufficiently characterized. This study aimed to estimate the indirect costs associated with CRSwNP in Spain from a societal perspective, focusing on productivity losses due to absenteeism and presenteeism. METHODS: A cost-of-illness analysis with a one-year time horizon and a societal perspective

The impact of depression, anxiety and comorbidity on occupational outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety and depression account for considerable cost to organizations, driven by both presenteeism (reduced performance due to attending work while ill) and absenteeism. Most research has focused on the impact of depression, with less attention given to anxiety and comorbid presentations. AIMS: To explore the cross-sectional relationship between depression and anxiety (individually and comorbidly) on workplace performance and sickness absence. METHODS: As part of a larger study to evaluate a mental health app, 4953 working Australians were recruited. Participants completed in-app
