Psychometrics of patient-reported outcomes measurement information system in von Willebrand disease, inherited platelet function disorders, and rare bleeding disorders.

BACKGROUND: Patient-reported outcomes measurement information system (PROMIS) measures can be used to measure patient-reported outcomes. PROMIS measures, including computer adaptive tests (CATs) and short forms, have demonstrated the ability to adequately assess outcomes in patients with hemophilia. It is, however, unclear if PROMIS measures are suitable for patients with von Willebrand disease (VWD), inherited platelet function disorders (IPFDs), and rare bleeding disorders (RBDs). OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the feasibility, measurement properties, and relevance of PROMIS measures in adults wit

Selection and application of familiar and novel tools in patients with left and right hemispheric stroke: Psychometrics and normative data.

Frequently left brain damage (LBD) leads to limb apraxia, a disorder that can affect tool-use. Despite its impact on daily life, classical tests examining the pantomime of tool-use and imitation of gestures are seldom applied in clinical practice. The study's aim was to present a diagnostic approach which appears more strongly related to actions in daily life in order to sensitize applicants and patients about the relevance of the disorder before patients are discharged. Two tests were introduced that evaluate actual tool selection and tool-object-application: the Novel Tools (NTT) and the Fam

Social emotional information processing in adults: Development and psychometrics of a computerized video assessment in healthy controls and aggressive individuals.

A computerized version of an assessment of Social-Emotional Information Processing (SEIP) using audio-video film stimuli instead of written narrative vignettes was developed for use in adult participants. This task allows for an assessment of encoding or relevant/irrelevant social-emotional information, attribution bias, and endorsement of appropriate, physically aggressive, and relationally aggressive responses to aversive social-emotional stimuli. The psychometric properties of this Video-SEIP (V-SEIP) assessment were examined in 75 healthy controls (HC) and in 75 individuals with DSM-5 Inte

Chronic Widespread Back Pain is Distinct From Chronic Local Back Pain: Evidence From Quantitative Sensory Testing, Pain Drawings, and Psychometrics.

OBJECTIVES: Whether chronic localized pain (CLP) and chronic widespread pain (CWP) have different mechanisms or to what extent they overlap in their pathophysiology is controversial. The study compared quantitative sensory testing profiles of nonspecific chronic back pain patients with CLP (n=48) and CWP (n=29) with and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) patients (n=90) and pain-free controls (n = 40). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The quantitative sensory testing protocol of the "German-Research-Network-on-Neuropathic-Pain" was used to measure evoked pain on the painful area in the lower back and the pain

The provider perception inventory: psychometrics of a scale designed to measure provider stigma about HIV, substance abuse, and MSM behavior.

Nongay identified men who have sex with men and women (NGI MSMW) and who use alcohol and other drugs are a vulnerable, understudied, and undertreated population. Little is known about the stigma faced by this population or about the way that health service providers view and serve these stigmatized clients. The provider perception inventory (PPI) is a 39-item scale that measures health services providers' stigma about HIV/AIDS, substance use, and MSM behavior. The PPI is unique in that it was developed to include service provider stigma targeted at NGI MSMW individuals. PPI was developed throu

Psychometrics of the SCL-90-R and Development and Testing of Brief Versions SCL-45 and SCL-9 in Infertile Couples.

BACKGROUND: Although infertile couples are mentally healthy, dealing with infertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment is usually associated with psychological distress. It would therefore be useful to have short, multidimensional instruments to be able to identify people who present more intense emotional reactions and follow up their emotional distress throughout the ART. OBJECTIVES: The goals of the study were to analyze the psychometric adequacy of the original 90-item version of the Symptom Checklist (SCL-90) in a sample of Spanish women and their partners undergoing

Psychometric evaluation of the professional forensic stigma scale.

BACKGROUND: Professional stigma toward forensic mental healthcare service users may compromise care quality and negatively affect treatment and rehabilitation outcomes. Reliable role- and context-specific instruments are needed to assess professional stigma in settings where therapeutic and security responsibilities intersect. This study examined the psychometric properties of the newly developed PROfessional Forensic Stigma (PROFS) scale, a multidimensional measure assessing stereotypes, prejudices, and discriminatory behaviors among professionals working with forensic populations. Comparison of methods for quick estimation of psychometric thresholds.

Threshold estimation plays a crucial role in modern cognitive science. Numerous psychophysical methods exist to quickly estimate key psychometric function parameters, like thresholds. Using Monte Carlo simulations of 60 to 120 trials, we compare stimulus selection methods in their ability to estimate thresholds. We evaluate model performance using measures including parameter bias, interquartile range, half-width of the limits of agreement and probability of missing the detection of participants responding randomly (miss rate). Psychometric functions are classically assumed to be monotonic, bu

Psychometric validation of the infant feeding position scale.

BACKGROUND: Infant feeding is a fundamental daily task and a critical parent-child interaction. Caregivers perform 6-12 feeds daily, often maintaining fixed, uncoordinated postures that can cause musculoskeletal strain, soreness, and injury. PROBLEM: Although various feeding positions are widely practiced, currently no standardized tool evaluates the quality or suitability of a parent's physical posture. Without a validated self-assessment instrument, it is difficult for parents to identify suboptimal positioning, and healthcare providers lack a baseline for evidence-based postural guidance.

Psychometric Evaluation of the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale.

BACKGROUND: Family members and close friends of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit (ICU) often experience stress and a sense of helplessness. Participating in the care of their loved one may improve their adaptation to the ICU environment and better prepare them for caregiving after discharge. OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this study was to develop the Family Willingness for Caregiving Scale (FWCS) and test its psychometric properties. The secondary aim was to examine relationships between family members' demographic characteristics and caregiving willingne

Attitudes toward Homelessness Inventory: A psychometric analysis.

The Attitudes toward Homelessness Inventory (ATHI) was developed due to a lack of psychometrically sound instruments to measure the nature and change in attitudes toward homelessness. Given inconsistencies in its use and internal reliability, this study evaluates the psychometric properties of the ATHI. Participants (n = 899) were selected using a random-digit-dial telephone survey to complete the ATHI. Results demonstrated that the four-factor solution suggested by the ATHI developers was the best fit for the data, but factor loadings and reliability coefficients were not sufficient for ensur

Psychometric Properties of the Recovery Home Environment Scale.

BACKGROUND: Recovery homes for persons with alcohol and drug problems provide an abstinent living environment and social support for recovery. Research shows residents in these homes make significant, sustained improvements. However, descriptions of recovery environments within the homes have been limited. PURPOSE: The current study assessed psychometric properties for the Recovery Home Environment Scale (RHES), which assessed social environments within one type of recovery home, sober living houses (SLHs). METHODS: 373 residents were interviewed at entry into the house, 1-month follow-up, a

ABR Psychometric Testing: Analysis of Validity and Effects.

Changes in the certification program of the ABR were first described in some detail in 2008 and have since undergone refinements. Controversies surrounding these changes have included the relevance of test questions, costs, effects of altering the examination scheduling, residency program curriculum changes, and issues related to preparing for the examinations. However, the role of psychometric testing in radiology itself, as the technical foundation for the new ABR Core and Certification Examinations, has undergone less scrutiny. This article examines the validity and consequences of the ABR

Psychometric properties of the German version of Observer OPTION5.

BACKGROUND: In order to conduct studies on shared decision-making (SDM) and to implement SDM in routine practice, psychometrically tested measures are needed. The development of the short 5-item version of the OPTION scale (Observer OPTION5) allows to assess SDM from an observer perspective. Observer OPTION5 is so far only available in English and Dutch. The aim of this study was to translate the Observer OPTION5 rating scale into German and to test its psychometric properties. METHODS: The German Observer OPTION5 was tested in a secondary data analysis of audio-recordings of patient-physicia
