Long-Term Efficacy and Toxicity of Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy in Bulky Cervical Cancer.

Treatment of bulky cervical cancer is associated with both high adverse effects and local recurrence rates with traditional box method radiotherapy. Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) has been adopted for the treatment of cervical cancer in order to deliver more precise radiation doses to the target region. We retrospectively enrolled a total of 98 patients with cervical cancer ≥4 cm who completed IMRT and point A-based brachytherapy treatment. The median follow-up time of the cohort was 6.84 years, with the 5-year OS and DFS being 66.33% and 75.12%, respectively. In addition, 7.14% of pa

Patterns and prognosis of regional recurrence in nasopharyngeal carcinoma after intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

OBJECTIVE: We analyzed the patterns of lymph node (LN) failure and prognosis in patients with regional recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC) alone after primary intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). METHODS: A total of 175 patients who were treated with IMRT between 2010 and 2015 and who experienced regional recurrence alone were included. Recurrent LNs were re-located in the initial pretreatment imaging and IMRT plan and failures were classified as in-field or out-field based on target volume delineation. All patients underwent curative salvage treatment. Independent prognostic factor

Dose estimation after a mixed field exposure: Radium-223 and intensity modulated radiotherapy.

INTRODUCTION: Radium-223 dichloride ([223Ra]RaCl2), a radiopharmaceutical that delivers α-particles to regions of bone metastatic disease, has been proven to improve overall survival of men with metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). mCRPC patients enrolled on the ADRRAD clinical trial are treated with a mixed field exposure comprising radium-223 (223Ra) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). While absorbed dose estimation is an important step in the characterisation of wider systemic radiation risks in nuclear medicine, uncertainties remain for novel radiopharmaceutica

Prognostic nomogram of xerostomia for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

Xerostomia is a common radiation-induced late complication after radiotherapy. Identifying predictive factors for xerostomia will lead to better treatments and improve the quality of life. This study was conducted to establish an effective predictive nomogram for xerostomia by assessing stage I-IVb (AJCC 7th edition) NPC patients between September 2015 and March 2016. Xerostomia was evaluated via the RTOG/EORTC system. The primary endpoint was grade 2-3 xerostomia 1 year after treatment. The predictive factors for xerostomia were analysed using logistic regression analysis. A nomogram was cons

Prospective evaluation of multitarget treatment of pediatric patients with helical intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Radiotherapy (RT) is persistently gaining significance in the treatment of pediatric tumors. However, individual features of a growing body and multifocal stages complicate this approach. Tomotherapy offers advantages in the treatment of anatomically complex tumors with low risks of side effects. Here we report on toxicity incidence and outcome of tomotherapy with a focus on multitarget RT (mtRT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2008 to 2017, 38 children diagnosed with sarcoma were treated with tomotherapy. The median age was 15 years (6-19 years). Toxicity was graded acco

Pattern and predictors of volumetric change of parotid glands during intensity modulated radiotherapy.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the pattern and predictors of volumetric change of parotid glands during intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for oropharyngeal cancer. METHODS: A cohort of patients undergoing weekly CT scans during dose-painted IMRT was considered. The parotid glands were contoured at the time of treatment planning (baseline) and on all subsequent scans. For a given patient, the parotid glands were labelled as higher (H) and lower (L), based on the mean dose at planning. The volume of each gland was determined for each scan and the percent change from baseline computed. Data were f
