Endodontic therapy of traumatized incisors with crown and transverse intra-alveolar root fractures.

A case involving traumatic injury to the maxillary anterior teeth with crown and transverse intra-alveolar root fractures is reported. The patient did not seek immediate treatment after trauma. Treatment included pulpectomy, fixation of a fractured root, root canal obturation, endodontic therapy of the coronal segment, and postoperative observation. Follow-up showed good results. Thus effective nonsurgical endodontic therapy of traumatized anterior teeth can result in a good prognosis in cases involving crown and intra-alveolar root fractures.

Severe external root resorption arrested by conventional endodontic treatment.

A case is presented of inflammatory external root resorption detected on radiographic examination. Conventional endodontic treatment, including calcium hydroxide dressing for two weeks and obturation of the root canal system using the vertical compaction of warm gutta-percha technique was a simple and effective treatment modality for arresting the resorptive process and maintaining the integrity of the patient dentition.

Maxillary first molar with 8 root canals detected by CBCT scanning: a case report.

Maxillary molars are prone to exhibit some of the most complex root canal configurations in endodontics. These complexities can result in diagnostic dilemmas, as well as management challenges. This case report illustrates how a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan confirmed an unusual maxillary first molar with 3 root canals each in the mesiobuccal and distobuccal roots and 2 canals in the palatal root. This article illustrates how CBCT scanning and a dental operating microscope can facilitate a better understanding of complex root canal anatomies, ultimately allowing the dentist to clean

Nonsurgical Endodontic Management of Oehler's Type IIDens Invaginatus Using a Combined High- and Low-Viscosity Calcium Silicate-Based Obturation Approach: A Case Report.

Dens invaginatus (DI) is a developmental anomaly characterized by the invagination of enamel and dentin into the pulp space, predisposing affected teeth to pulpal and periapical pathologies. The complex and irregular canal anatomy often complicates endodontic management. This case report describes the nonsurgical endodontic retreatment of a maxillary lateral incisor (22) with Oehler's Type II DI in a 32-year-old female patient presenting with chronic apical periodontitis. Cone beam computed tomography revealed a highly complex root canal anatomy, consisting of a large, irregular main canal, nu

Aspergillus mycetoma of the maxillary sinus secondary to overfilling of a root canal.

In nonimmunocompromised patients aspergillosis of the paranasal sinuses is a relatively rare disease. Root canal treated teeth with overextension of the root canal sealer or solid materials such as gutta-percha or silver cones into the sinus might be the main etiological factor for aspergillosis of the maxillary sinus in healthy patients. Root-filling materials based zinc oxide-eugenol is considered to be a growth factor for aspergillus. Aspergillus fumigatus needs heavy metals such as zinc oxide for proliferation and metabolism. Prognostic and histological studies showed that instrumentation

MTA versus Biodentine in Root Perforation Repair: Influence of Obturation Strategy on Fracture Risk in Maxillary First Premolars - A FEA and Weibull Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to compare the biomechanical effects of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine for repairing root perforations in conjunction with 2 obturation strategies (complete versus partial gutta-percha obturation) on the fracture resistance of maxillary first premolars. The incidence of these treatment modalities on the probability of fracture risk was evaluated quantitatively. METHODS: Seven three-dimensional finite element models were constructed from cone-beam computed tomography data. The tooth models that were used consisted of a sound tooth model

Management of single-rooted maxillary central incisor with two canals: a case report.

The aim of this study was to report the endodontic management of right maxillary central incisor having two canals with type IV Vertucci canal configuration. Internal morphology of root canals is variable and often complex. Therefore, to achieve a technically satisfactory endodontic outcome, the clinician must have adequate knowledge of the internal canal morphology and its variations in order to debride and obturate the root canal system thoroughly.

[Electronic microscopy in endodontic electrophoresis efficiency assessment].

The reason for insufficient efficiency of endodontic treatments is a complex structure of root canals system and presence of dentine tubules (DT) in a root dentine. For sterilization and obturation of all spaces in a root canal system the method of cupper-calcium hydroxide (CCH) electrophoresis was developed. The authors proposed more effective method of CCH galvanophoresis by means of galvanic pins based on electrophoresis principles but allowing deep impregnation of the root dentine by nanoparticles of CCH. The purpose of the study was to validate the parameters of root dentine nanoimpregnat

Machine-driven vs. manual nickel-titanium instrumentation of canine teeth in dogs: a high resolution micro-CT evaluation of canal geometry and obturation quality.

Root canal treatment in canine teeth of dogs represents a technically demanding procedure due to complex root canal anatomy and large canal dimensions. The present study aimed to compare different endodontic instrumentation techniques and to evaluate their effects on canal geometry, obturation quality, and procedural safety using high-resolution micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). In addition, the diagnostic value of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the assessment of postoperative findings was investigated. Thirty extracted canine teeth were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 10)

Treating apical fenestration in a previously endodontically treated tooth.

Apical fenestration is a defect in the alveolar cortical plate, exposing the root without involving the alveolar bone margin, often linked to trauma, periodontal disease, and orthodontic treatment, leading to symptoms such as pain and abscesses from endodontic infections. This case report describes managing a mucosal fenestration in an endodontically treated tooth with nonsurgical root canal therapy and periodontal surgery. A 44-year-old male presented with mucosal fenestration and pain in the upper front jaw due to trauma and an inadequately treated root canal. Examination revealed an ill-fit

Four-rooted maxillary first molar having C-shaped palatal root canal morphology evaluated using cone-beam computerized tomography: a case report.

The aim of this article was to present an endodontically managed maxillary first molar with unusual C-shaped palatal root morphology confirmed by cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) images. CBCT axial images showed the presence of C-shaped palatal root canal anatomy with a palatal root bifurcation at the apical third. The evaluation of CBCT images can result in better understanding of root canal anatomy, which enables the clinician to investigate the root canal system and to clean, shape, and obturate it more effectively.

Endodontic management of root perforating internal replacement resorption.

This case report presents the management of a case of rarely seen perforating internal replacement resorption using calcium hydroxide (CH) medication and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) root canal obturation. A maxillary central incisor of a 20-year-old female was showing a sinus track on the mucosa. Radiographically, an irregularly shaped and perforating internal resorption area was seen at the middle third of the root canal. Appearances of the bone-like fuzzy material were observed inside the resorption site. The apical part of the canal was obliterated. Following 3 months of CH medication,
