The technique for bronchial stump suturing following lung resection which is currently applied in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium owes its name to the Dutch surgeon Dr. Klinkenbergh (1891-1985). A true pioneer of cardiothoracic surgery in Europe, Dr. Klinkenbergh dedicated himself to the surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. His work was praised by his peers for his precision and the reasoning behind every gesture. The Klinkenbergh technique consists in performing two running sutures which cross each other 'in the same manner as the laces

OBJECTIVE: The term 'total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) with classical suture method' refers to a surgical procedure performed using only sutures and ligations with intracorporeal or extracorporeal ties, without using any laser or electronic cauterization devices during laparoscopic surgery as in total abdominal hysterectomy. However, the method is not as widely used as electric coagulation equipment for TLH because further advances in technology and surgical technique are required and operative time can take longer. In the current study, we evaluated the benefits of the classical suture me

BACKGROUND: Meniscal root tears have attracted increasing interest in recent years. Fixation is an important factor for rehabilitation and avoidance of early failure. Suture fixations have been the most commonly used techniques. The current study aimed to evaluate the maximum failure load of the native meniscal roots (anteromedial, posteromedial, anterolateral, and posterolateral) and of 3 commonly used meniscal root fixation techniques (2 simple stitches, modified Kessler stitch, and loop stitch).
HYPOTHESES: (1) There will be no difference in maximum failure load between the native meniscal

The modified suspension technique for reanastomosis of the fallopian tube enables safer and more accurate placement of sutures at the anastomotic site. For all of the primary sutures, this technique enables careful inspection of the tissue layers prior to final approximation of the two tubal segments, thereby significantly reducing the possibilities of technical errors, such as posterior wall inclusion. This approach does not require the use of approximating clamps, and is an organized, well-staged approach.

BACKGROUND: Serious postpartum haemorrhage occurs in approximately 1.4% of all deliveries in Norway and may result in hysterectomy. Stepwise devascularisation and hysterectomy are technically difficult and time consuming. A simple suture technique, B-Lynch suture, has recently been introduced, by which atonic postpartum haemorrhage may be controlled and hysterectomy avoided.
MATERIAL, METHODS AND RESULTS: We have used the B-Lynch technique in five patients with serious postpartum uterine atonia and haemorrhage. In all patients serious bleeding and hysterectomy were avoided. Three of the patie

Cemil Topuzlu Pacha (1868-1958) is known to be one of the most famous surgeons in Turkey through the early decades of the twentieth century. Being a talented and courageous surgeon, he performed many of the avoided operations of that time. He presented his vascular suture techniques at the International Medical Congress in Moscow in August 1897 and at the annual Congress of the Societe de Chirurgie de Paris in July 1904. He reported 2 cases of arterial tear during breast carcinoma resection and repair within the same session. He also reported the removal of a pen cover from the right main bron

The continuous suture technique has been proposed as an alternate method for aortic valve replacement (AVR). Advantages include a decreased ischemic and bypass time. Despite reports of a low incidence of perivalvular leak, wide use of the continuous suture technique has not been adopted. This report reviews our experience with the continuous suture technique. From January 1984 through November 1991, 181 consecutive patients underwent AVR using the continuous suture technique. The mean age was 61 years (range 6 to 88 years). Diagnoses included pure aortic stenosis (AS) in 41%, aortic insufficie

Twenty-five recurrent traumatic unidirectional anterior shoulder dislocators were stabilized arthroscopically with a transglenoid absorbable suturing technique. A Bankart lesion was documented and repaired in all cases. Postoperative follow-up averaged 17 months (range 1 year to 30 months). All results were rated excellent. All patients achieved full, painless range of motion (ROM), and no instances of postoperative instability occurred. There were no complications. The details of the operative technique are described.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Methods for femoral venous haemostasis following electrophysiology (EP) procedures include manual compression (MC) and suture-based techniques such as a figure-of-eight suture secured with a hand-tied knot (Fo8HT) or a modified figure-of-eight suture secured with a 3-way stopcock (Fo8MOD). We hypothesised that short-term bleeding outcomes using the Fo8MOD approach would be superior to MC. We additionally compared outcomes between Fo8MOD and Fo8HT approaches.
METHODS: We studied consecutive patients undergoing EP procedures at our institution between March and December 202

BACKGROUND: Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is the most serious complication and the main reason for morbidity and mortality after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). Currently, there exists no flawless pancreaticojejunal anastomosis approach. We presents a new approach called Chen's penetrating-suture technique for pancreaticojejunostomy (PPJ), which involves end-to-side pancreaticojejunostomy by suture penetrating the full-thickness of the pancreas and jejunum, and evaluates its safety and efficacy.
METHODS: To assess this new approach, between May 2006 and July 2018, 193 consecutive pati

INTRODUCTION: Continuous and interrupted sling sutures (ISSs) are used around teeth in contemporary periodontics. However, conventional ISSs depend upon favorable tooth morphology for stability through the early healing period. The purpose of this report is to present a variation of the classic ISS that does not rely on favorable tooth morphology.
CASE SERIES: Tissue-supported sling sutures (TSSs) were used for six patients undergoing root coverage, gingival augmentation, or pontic site development (guided bone regeneration) procedures.
CONCLUSIONS: Although techniques such as vertical mattr

BACKGROUND: The most difficult, time-consuming, and critical steps of laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LPP) are ureteral spatulation, apical ureteral stitch placement, and ureteropelvic anastomosis. To simplify these critical steps, avoid the risk of ureteral shortening, and also minimize ureteral manipulation, we present a modified dismembered technique for suturing with the outcome of patients who underwent LPP using this technique.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 23 patients who were candidates for transperitoneal dismembered Anderson-Hynes LPP. The ureter was partially cut just below
