Testicular malakoplakia: a rare sonographic mimic of malignancy.

Testicular malakoplakia is a rare, benign condition that most often occurs in an immunocompromised patient with chronic infection. Its occurrence is acute, with pain and testicular enlargement. Sonography is commonly performed to evaluate the patient for epididymitis or torsion. The appearance of testicular malakoplakia on sonography examination has only rarely been described, making its diagnosis challenging. Because its appearance overlaps with testicular neoplasm and infection, it should be considered when making a differential diagnosis of a diffuse testicular abnormality in the appropriat

A Unique Case of Bilateral Testicular Tumours: Nonseminomatous Germ Cell Tumour and Contralateral Spermatocytic Tumour 27 Years Apart.

INTRODUCTION: Bilateral testicular tumours occur in 3-5% of all cases with testicular neoplasms. In the majority of cases, histology of the two new growths is identical. The time interval between the two neoplastic events rarely exceeds 10 years. CASE PRESENTATION: A 29-year-old man of Caucasian descent underwent right-sided orchiectomy for a nonseminomatous germ cell tumour (GCT). Postoperatively, he received adjuvant chemotherapy with 2 cycles of a cisplatin based regimen for clinical stage 1 disease. Twenty-seven years later when aged 56 years, he developed a lump in the left testis. Serum

Sonography of testicular tumors and tumor-like conditions: a radiologic-pathologic correlation.

Malignant testicular tumors are an important clinical problem, and ultrasound is the most frequently ordered imaging modality once a palpable scrotal mass is discovered. Numerous articles discussing the role of ultrasound in the evaluation of testicular pathology have confirmed the value of preoperative imaging. This article presents a review of imaging literature regarding testicular neoplasms, with an emphasis on correlation of gross and microscopic tumor pathology and imaging findings. Also included are sections on anatomy, epidemiology, histogenesis, and tumor markers.

Germ cell tumours.

Germ cell tumours form an important group of gonadal neoplasms and are also found in a number of extragonadal sites like the mediastinum, para-pineal and sacrococcygeal regions and retroperitoneum. Although there are considerable differences between germ cell tumours occurring in different anatomical locations they exhibit a remarkable homology, and are considered as a group. In this review germ cell tumours are discussed as a group emphasizing some of the recent developments in this field. In the testis germ cell tumours form the most common group of neoplasms comprising 90% of all testicular

A case of isolated testicular Tuberculosis: Approach and management.

Testicular tuberculosis is a rare form of genitourinary TB that often mimics conditions such as neoplasms or chronic epididymo-orchitis, making diagnosis challenging. We report a 60-year-old man with longstanding right testicular pain and swelling, no systemic symptoms, and a history of household TB exposure. Imaging showed a large hydrocele with suspected underlying pathology. Intraoperative findings revealed necrotic testicular tissue, prompting orchiectomy. Histopathology confirmed granulomatous inflammation with caseous necrosis consistent with TB. The patient began standard anti-tubercula

Cystic dysplasia of the testis with ipsilateral renal agenesis. A case report and review of the literature.

While cystic dysplasia of the testis is rare, the awareness of the benign and malformative nature of this lesion is important to consider among other cystic testicular and para testicular lesions, first neoplasm. Its sonographic appearance and the recognition of simultaneously occurring renal anomalies should allow for prompt recognition in children with scrotal swelling or testicular enlargement. We describe a 10-year-old boy with right testicular swelling who underwent orchiectomy for cystic dysplasia of the testis.

Testicular Myofibroma in Children: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Testicular tumors are rare in the prepubertal population and often are germ cell tumors. Myofibroma is a rare spindle cell neoplasm composed of myofibroblasts, which are intermediate cells between fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells. Only two prepubertal testicular myofibromas have been previously reported. While cryptorchidism is a risk factor for testicular germ cell tumors, the exact etiology of testicular myofibroma is unknown. We report a case of testicular myofibroma in a six-year-old male with a history of undescended testes, as well as a review of the literature. This case suggests a p

Secondary neoplasms of the male genital tract with different patterns of involvement in adults and children.

AIMS: The incidence, presentation and macroscopic and histological features of secondary neoplasms of the male genital tract are described with reference to their differential diagnosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: A retrospective study of cases from the Royal London Hospital yielded a total of 31 secondary neoplasms involving the testis: 14 at postmortem examination and 17 surgical specimens. Nine cases were leukaemias: six acute lymphoblastic and two acute myeloid leukaemias in children, and one chronic lymphocytic leukaemia in an adult. The commonest primary sites of metastases to the testis were

Rosai-Dorfman disease of the testis: an unusual entity that mimics testicular malignancy.

A 47 year old Chinese man with diabetes mellitus and previously treated pulmonary tuberculosis presented with painless right testicular enlargement of 1 month's duration. He underwent an orchidectomy for presumed testicular neoplasm corroborated clinicoradiologically. Histological examination of the testicular mass revealed an inflammatory lesion comprising lymphocytes, plasma cells and sheets of pale staining histiocytes, some containing lymphocytes within their ample cytoplasm, suggestive of emperipolesis. S100 immunohistochemistry stained the histiocytes, while ultrastructural examination c

[Angiosarcoma of the spleen 11 years after chemotherapy for testicular seminoma: a case report].

A 32-year-old man who had previously undergone chemotherapy for testicular seminoma 11 years ago was admitted to our hospital with a pain in the right leg. Computed tomography (CT) and bone scintigraphy revealed splenomegaly and multiple bone disease. Laboratory examination showed thrombocytopenia. The pathologic diagnosis of the resected spleen and the biopsied rib was angiosarcoma. We found no reports of angiosarcoma following previous chemotherapy for testicular cancer. It is unclear whether the angiosarcoma is a secondary neoplasm induced by the chemotherapy or not. However, the patient ha

Adnexal smooth muscle hyperplasia resulting in non-traumatic testicular dislocation: A case report.

Tumors of the para-testicular adnexa are very rare and are typically histologically diagnosed as adenomatoid neoplasms, leiomyomata, or smooth muscle hyperplasia. Though these masses are usually benign, the potential for malignancy and mass effect causing intrascrotal discomfort necessitate proper diagnosis and excision. Herein, we describe a unique case of gradual, atraumatic testicular dislocation in a 40-year-old male caused by smooth muscle hyperplasia of the testicular adnexa affecting the epididymis and vas deferens. This case highlights the diagnostic and surgical challenges associated

Diagnostic and Imaging Features of a Non-seminomatous Germ Cell Tumor of the Testis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Neoplasms involving the testes are uncommon. They account for up to 10% of all malignant diseases affecting the male genitourinary system and for around 2% of all malignant neoplasms in males. Testicular tumors are the third highest cause of mortality in males between the age of 20 and 40 years. We present a case of a young patient with right-sided scrotal swelling associated with pain. Ultrasonography, elastography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging features revealed non-seminomatous germ cell tumors of the testis. The patient underwent inguinal orchidectomy for the same and

Testicular sarcoidosis.

A 20 year old black man presented with shortness of breath, hilar adenopathy, monoarticular arthritis, polydipsia and polyuria, and bilateral testicular masses. Transbronchial biopsy revealed noncaseating granulomas consistent with sarcoidosis. Subsequent work-up demonstrated hypothalamic dysfunction, and joint fluid analysis was consistent with sarcoid arthropathy. Concern over the possibility of a testicular neoplasm led to right testicular biopsy which revealed noncaseating granulomas consistent with testicular sarcoidosis. A short course of steroid therapy resulted in clinical improvement

Testicular seminoma metastasizing to the parotid gland: report of a case.

BACKGROUND: Among salivary glands, the parotid gland is the most common site for secondary neoplastic involvement, and carcinomas and melanomas are the two most common secondary tumors. METHODS: We present a case of testicular seminoma metastasizing to the parotid gland. The patient, who had a remote history of testicular seminoma, was initially seen with a parotid mass. A primary parotid lesion was anticipated, and excisional biopsy was performed. The diagnosis of testicular seminoma metastasizing to the parotid gland was established on the basis of histologic findings and was confirmed by i

From the archives of the AFIP: tumors and tumorlike lesions of the testis: radiologic-pathologic correlation.

Testicular carcinoma represents only 1% of all neoplasms in men, but it is the most common malignancy in the 15-34-year-old age group. Germ cell tumors constitute 95% of all testicular tumors. Germ cell tumors are a varied group of neoplasms whose imaging features reflect their underlying histologic characteristics. Seminomas are generally well-defined homogeneous lesions, whereas the nonseminomatous tumors (embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, choriocarcinoma, teratoma, and mixed germ cell tumor) have a much more varied appearance. Germ cell tumors follow a predictable pattern of spread via t

Metastatic Leydig cell tumour in a patient with synchronous prostate cancer.

Leydig cell tumours (LCTs) are rare testicular stromal tumours, comprising 1-3% of all testicular neoplasms. While typically benign, malignant transformation occurs in approximately 10% of cases, with metastasis being exceedingly rare. We present a case of a male in his 70s with a history of pT1 Leydig cell tumour who developed metastatic disease to the lungs and para-aortic lymph nodes, discovered during prostate cancer staging. This case highlights the challenges in diagnosing and managing metastatic LCT and underscores the importance of surveillance in patients with rare testicular malignan

Intra-abdominal torsion of a cryptorchid testicle associated with teratoma in a rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus): A case report.

Several testicular disorders have been described in rabbits, including neoplasms, cryptorchidism, abscesses, and torsions. Testicular torsion, characterized by rotation of the testicle around its vascular axis, may occur in either a scrotal or intra-abdominal position, leading to ischemia and necrosis, and is considered an acute condition requiring surgical intervention. The present study describes the case of a 13-month-old male rabbit presenting with abdominal pain and increased volume in the hypogastric region, with only one testicle identified within the scrotal sac. Ultrasonographic exami

Testicular schistosomiasis as differential diagnosis for testicular nodules: a case report.

Despite its infrequent occurrence, testicular schistosomiasis forming pseudo-tumors can be considered in the differential diagnosis of testicular tumors, especially in areas where the parasitic disease is endemic. In this report, we present a case of testicular schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma mansoni and mimicking a testicular neoplasm. We describe the patterns of a testicular nodule on ultrasonography and magnetic resonance images in a 46-year-old man. The nodule was removed after a pre-operative diagnosis of a non-malignant lesion. Histology demonstrated granulomas with epithelioid mac
