[Clinical and radiologic diagnosis of etiology of macrohematuria from urinary tract].

Clinical, laboratory, ultrasonic, X-ray, and endoscopic methods were used to specify the cause of macrohematuria from the urinary tract at all levels. Seventy-two patients with macrohematuria were examined; in 37 the process was localizes in the urinary tract (pelvic tumors in 2, calculi in 14, bladder tumors in 9, hemorrhagic cystitis in 2, cystic diverticuli in 3, tuberculosis in 1, prostatic adenoma in 2, prostatic cancer in 4, cases). An ultrasonic examination, though a valuable method, failed to detect papillary tumors of the pelvis when used alone. Transabdominal and transrectal ultrason

Retrograde ejaculation associated spontaneous sperm cystolithiasis in four rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta).

Retrograde ejaculation (RE) has been reported in humans and animals but RE with subsequent sperm calculi has rarely been reported. This report documents clinical and pathological findings of spontaneous sperm cystolithiasis in four rhesus macaques. While this condition has been associated with repeated electroejaculation, spontaneous sperm cystolithiasis is highly unusual. The animals presented with either stranguria, dysuria, hematuria, distended abdomen or lethargy. Ultrasound examination revealed several hyperechoic masses within the lumen of the urinary bladder. The animals were euthanized

Long-term outcome of incontinent ileovesicostomy management of severe lower urinary tract dysfunction.

PURPOSE: We evaluated the extended 5-year followup outcome of incontinent ileovesicostomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the charts of 25 men and 13 women with a mean age of 44.9 years who underwent incontinent ileovesicostomy, including the original 23 patients whom we reported on in 1993. Mean followup was 52 months. We compared the incidence of complications before and after ileovesicostomy as well as long-term urinary tract status. RESULTS: Before ileovesicostomy the incidence of serious complications associated with an indwelling catheter was significant, including poor bladder com

[GIANT BLADDER CALCULI TREATED WITH SINGLE-STAGE SIMULTANEOUS PERCUTANEOUS SUPRAPUBIC AND TRANSURETHRAL CYSTOLITHOTRIPSY: A CASE REPORT].

An 82-year-old man presented with lower abdominal pain and general malaise. Noncontrast computed tomography revealed a remarkably enlarged prostate and a full bladder with a giant stone 80 mm in diameter causing bilateral hydroureteronephrosis. Laboratory data demonstrated systemic inflammation and renal dysfunction with hyperkalemia. Acute postrenal dysfunction caused by urinary retention was diagnosed. A urethral catheter was inserted and emergent dialysis was initiated. After renal function recovered, we performed lithotripsy for the urinary bladder calculi. To achieve stone free status wit

The radiology of urinary tract abnormalities associated with hysterectomy.

A review of urinary tract complications following hysterectomy shows that these are more likely to occur after radical hysterectomy than after hysterectomy for benign conditions. The role of associated radiotherapy has also been considered and the use of preoperative and postoperative radiological investigations of the urinary tract discussed. Ureteric complications include transient hydroureter and hydronephrosis, ureteric stricture, ureteric fistulae and ureteric severance. The bladder complications which may occur are vesicovaginal fistula, impingement from postoperative haematoma and absce

Extraction of giant bladder calcium oxalate stone: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Bladder stone is a rare and ancient disease. Nowadays new technologies have been developed in the effort to make less invasive stone treatment. Bladder calculi account for 5% of urinary calculi. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 52-year-old male patient with symptoms of lower abdominal pain, dysuria and pollakiuria was admitted. Urinalysis showed that pH5.0 and presence of calcium oxalate crystals and leukocyturia but erthrocyturia and nitrite were absent. Abdominal ultrasonogry revealed hydronephrosis, thickened bladder wall and large single stone. Plain radiography showed a large bladde

A systematic scoping review of Jackstone Calculi: clinical presentation and management.

Jackstone calculi are a rare and distinctive type of urinary stone characterized by their radiating spicule structure. They are primarily found in the bladder, and also occur in the renal pelvis. Because jackstone calculi are infrequently encountered in clinical practice, studies on their pathophysiology and clinical implications are relatively limited. This systematic scoping review aims to consolidate existing knowledge, find the deficiencies of current research, and provide a reference for further research. A comprehensive search was conducted using PubMed and Embase databases with the term

Urethral duplication with single bladder and multiple genitourinary abnormalities: an example of continent urinary diversion.

A 13-year-old girl with multiple genitourinary malformations, incomplete bladder exstrophy, urethral duplication with single bladder, septate vagina, and total urinary incontinence is presented. Prior to admission she had undergone surgery for teratoma and calculi of the bladder and partial fecal incontinence. A continent urinary diversion was done by bladder augmentation using a cecal-colonic segment and by surgical closure of the bladder neck. The distal end of the appendix was brought to the skin as an inconspicuous, easily catheterizable, watertight stoma, our modification of the Mitrofano

The effects of vitamin A-deficient diets containing lactose in producing bladder calculi and tumors in rats.

This report describes studies in which diets have been developed which when fed to rats commonly result in the formation of primary urinary bladder calculi. The bladder walls of most of these rats but not those without urinary stones were grossly hypertrophied. Microscopic examinations in one of the studies indicated that about a quarter of the bladders containing stones showed histological changes consistent with those characterized as grade I to II transitional cell carcinomas. In all cases animals showing these histological abnormalities consumed vitamin A-deficient diets in which the carbo

Endoscopic procedures in the treatment of urologic disorders in children.

Cystoscopy has been a well established procedure in adult urology for years and more recently for the endoscopic evaluation of the lower urinary tract of infants and children. Utilizing small caliber cold light endoscopes and resectoscopes, therapeutic manipulations are readily possible. Among these are extraction of ureteral stones, lithotripsy of bladder calculi, transurethral resection of bladder tumors, as well as transurethral incision and resection of bladder-neck obstructions, urethral valves and urethral stenoses. The excellent results obtained in the treatment of infravesical urinary

Intravesical vancomycin for the treatment of Corynebacterium cystitis and struvite bladder stones: A case report.

Urologic patients with anatomic abnormalities can be particularly susceptible to urinary tract infections (UTI). UTI with urease-producing bacteria can promote struvite urinary calculi and pose unique treatment problems. There is potential for rapid stone growth and bacterial eradication can be difficult secondary to urothelial or stone colonization. Antibiotic resistance among urease-producing organisms further complicates treatment. In this report, we describe the use of intravesical vancomycin in the treatment of a patient with struvite bladder calculi secondary to urease-producing Coryneba

Urinary acidification in the prevention and treatment of feline struvite urolithiasis.

Two groups of 12 cats were fed ad libitum an experimental dry expanded ration high in magnesium (0.37%, dry matter basis) and similar to most commercial dry cat foods in all other nutrients. The diet of one of the groups contained 1.5% ammonium chloride, which was added to the diet before processing. Urethral obstruction developed twice in 7 of the 12 cats fed the ration without ammonium chloride. Of the 5 remaining cats in that group, 2 had calculi in the urinary bladder and urethra at necropsy. In contrast, only 2 of the 12 cats fed the ration containing ammonium chloride had urethral blocka

[Research status and trend of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of urinary diseases].

Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely applied in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary diseases with the development of data storage, image processing, pattern recognition and machine learning technologies. Based on the massive biomedical big data of imaging and histopathology, many urinary system diseases (such as urinary tumor, urological calculi, urinary infection, voiding dysfunction and erectile dysfunction) will be diagnosed more accurately and will be treated more individualizedly. However, most of the current AI diagnosis and treatment are in the pre-clinical research

The impact of contemporary bladder management techniques on struvite calculi associated with spinal cord injury.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the incidence, risk factors and complications of upper tract struvite calculi, often associated with spinal cord injury (SCI), as such patients have a high incidence of urinary infection complicating their neurogenic voiding dysfunction, by reviewing a large population of patients with SCI in whom modern techniques of bladder management were used. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1982 and 1996, 1669 patients with SCI were admitted to our institution; 1359 of these patients sustained their injuries during the study period. During this time, their bladder management was base

Massive obstructive urolithiasis in a bull used for artificial insemination.

A seven-year-old Jersey bull used for artificial insemination showed clinical signs of obstructive urolithiasis. This was confirmed by catheterisation and subsequent urethrotomy over the site of obstruction distal to the sigmoid flexure. Although urine flow was elicited after removal of the calculi, this was only temporary and the animal had to be killed 24 hours later. On post mortem examination about 2 kg of round, smooth, pearl-like calculi were found in the urinary bladder and the urethra of the sigmoid flexure was studded with similar calculi. It was concluded that urethrotomy at the sigm
