RELIEF: A Digital Health Tool for the Remote Self-Reporting of Symptoms in Patients with Cancer to Address Palliative Care Needs and Minimize Emergency Department Visits.

The lack of timely symptom reporting remains a barrier to effective symptom management and comfort for patients with cancer-related palliative care needs. Poor symptom management at home can lead to unwanted outcomes, such as emergency department visits and death in hospital. We developed and evaluated RELIEF, a remote symptom self-reporting app for community patients with palliative care needs. A pilot feasibility study was conducted at a large, community hospital in Ontario, Canada. Patients self-reported their symptoms each morning using validated clinical symptom measures and RELIEF would

Important End-of-Life Topics among Latino Patients and Caregivers Coping with Advanced Cancer.

There is a known end-of-life related disparity among Latino individuals, and there is a need to develop culturally sensitive interventions to help patients and caregivers cope with advanced cancer. Latino patients and caregivers coping with advanced cancer were asked to list important end-of-life topics to culturally inform a psychosocial intervention adaptation process. A qualitative study was conducted, and semi-structured interviews were performed, audio-recorded, and transcribed. Recordings and transcriptions were reviewed and analyzed using thematic content coding. The semi-structured int

[Ergoferon liquid dosage form--efficacious and safe treatment for childhood acute respiratory infections. Interim outcomes of a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial].

The pediatric dosage form of Egroferon--a drug indicated for the treatment of influenza and acute respiratory infections (ARIs)--is developed taking in account the broad range of pathogens (most of which are viruses), and age-dependent features of immune system reactions (absence of specific immunity and immunological memory, relative "immaturity" of immune reactions, reduced interferon production by immunocompetent cells, etc.). Ergoferon interferes with the non-specific mechanisms of antiviral defence that ensure eliciting of an immune response, regardless of the virus type (the interferon s

What are the attitudes of health professionals regarding patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in oncology practice? A mixed-method synthesis of the qualitative evidence.

BackgroundThe adoption of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in cancer care has been widely advocated, but little is known about the evidence for the implementation of PROMs in practice. Qualitative research captures the perspectives of health professionals as end-users of PROMs and can be used to inform adoption efforts. This paper presents a systematic review and synthesis of qualitative research conducted to address the question: What are the attitudes of health professionals towards PROMs in oncology, including any barriers and facilitators to the adoption of PROMS, reported in qual

Intervention and application of drawing therapy in cancer patients: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Cancer itself and its treatment process cause a range of physical and psychological discomforts to patients. Drawing therapy, as a form of complementary alternative medicine, has been proven to be effective in alleviating the physical and psychological discomforts of cancer patients, such as chemotherapy-associated nausea and vomiting, and negative emotions such as anxiety and depression. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to organize and describe the literature on drawing therapy in cancer patients, including implementers, intervention methods, and effects. It strives to provide

Physical activity-related health competence and symptom burden for exercise prescription in patients with multiple myeloma: a latent profile analysis.

The purpose of this study is to ensure best possible supply of exercise therapy to patients with multiple myeloma (MM); it is helpful to identify patient groups with similar symptom burden and physical activity-related health competences (PAHCO). Latent profile analyses (LPA) of MM patients were used to identify profiles of patients with similar PAHCO and symptom burden. Analysis of variance was applied to investigate group differences in important covariates. N = 98 MM patients (57% male, age 64 ± 9 years) could be assigned to three distinct PAHCO profiles: 46% were patients with high PAHCO,

Virtualized clinical studies to assess the natural history and impact of gut microbiome modulation in non-hospitalized patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 a randomized, open-label, prospective study with a parallel group study evaluating the physiologic effects of KB109 on gut microbiota structure and function: a structured summary of a study protocol for a randomized controlled study.

OBJECTIVES: These 2 parallel studies (K031 and K032) aim to evaluate the safety of KB109 in addition to supportive self-care (SSC) compared with SSC alone in outpatients with mild to moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). KB109 is a novel synthetic glycan that was formulated to modulate the gut microbiome composition and metabolic output in order to increase beneficial short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production in the gut. The K031 study is designed to evaluate the safety of KB109 and characterize its impact on the natural progression of COVID-19 in patients with mild to moderate disease.

Cardiovascular Concerns, Cancer Treatment, and Biological and Chronological Aging in Cancer: JACC Family Series.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer are leading causes of death globally, particularly among the rapidly growing population of older adults (OAs). CVD is a leading cause of mortality among cancer survivors, often accelerated by cancer treatments associated with short- or long-term cardiotoxicity. Moreover, there is a dynamic relationship among CVD, cancer, and aging, characterized by shared risk factors and biological hallmarks, that plays an important role in caring for OAs, optimizing treatment approaches, and developing preventive strategies. Assessment of geriatric domains (eg, functio
