[Mechanisms of Qibai Pingfei Capsules in inhibiting pyroptosis of pulmonaryartery adventitial fibroblasts via regulating NLRP3/Caspase-1/ GSDMD pathway to intervene in COPD complicated by pulmonary arterial hypertension].

This study investigated the mechanisms by which Qibai Pingfei Capsules(QBPF) intervene in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) complicated by pulmonary hypertension(PH) through regulating the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)/Caspase-1/gasdermin D(GSDMD) pathway to inhibit pyroptosis of pulmonary artery adventitial fibroblasts(PAAFs). A COPD-PH rat model was established using a combined protocol of forced swimming, passive smoking, and hypoxic exposure. Rats were divided into five groups(n=15 each), i.e., control, model, QBPF, QBPF + nigericin(NLRP

Habitual Exercise Modulates Neuroimmune Interaction to Mitigate Aortic Stiffness.

BACKGROUND: Exercise augments hemodynamic shear to activate mechano-sensitive molecular transducers in the vascular endothelium. Recently, the central nervous system has been reported to mediate neuroimmune interactions in the aortic adventitia (AA). Whether exercise modulates sympathetic nerve interactions with the immune cells to mitigate aortic stiffness remains unknown. METHODS: C57BL/6 mice infused with angiotensin II (Ang II) were subjected to voluntary wheel running (VWR) for four weeks. Sympathetic activation was assessed by tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) expression, norepinephrine (NE) le

Vessel Wall Histologic Changes in a Porcine Model of Arteriovenous Fistula Stenosis Treated with Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty.

PURPOSE: To describe the immunohistologic changes in arteriovenous fistula stenosis treated using plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) versus paclitaxel drug-coated balloons (DCBs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Castrated male Yorkshire pigs (n = 12) 4-5 months old had chronic kidney disease induced with renal artery embolization. Twenty-eight days later, a side-to-end anastomosis was created between the left common carotid artery and ipsilateral external jugular vein. Four weeks later, a juxta-anastomotic stenosis was treated with balloon angioplasty (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty [PTA]) or

METTL3-METTL14 complex induces necroptosis and inflammation of vascular smooth muscle cells via promoting N6 methyladenosine mRNA methylation of receptor-interacting protein 3 in abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) have the highest incidence and rupture rate of all aortic aneurysms. The N6 methyladenosine (m6A) modification is closely associated with angiotensin (Ang II)-induced aortic diseases. This study aimed to identify whether the m6A writer METTL3/METTL4 regulates rip3 mRNA expression in AAA. To induce the mouse AAA model, apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE-/-) mice were subcutaneously infused with Ang II, and C57BL/6 mice were infused with type I elastase. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) were induced with Ang II. Necroptosis was detected using an Annexin V-FITC/

Progressive mechanical and structural changes in anterior cerebral arteries with Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease and the main cause for dementia. The irreversible neurodegeneration leads to a gradual loss of brain function characterized predominantly by memory loss. Cerebrovascular changes are common neuropathologic findings in aged subjects with dementia. Cerebrovascular integrity is critical for proper metabolism and perfusion of the brain, as cerebrovascular remodeling may render the brain more susceptible to pulse pressure and may be associated with poorer cognitive performance and greater risk of cerebrovascular events. The objective of this st

Efficacy analysis of minimally invasive surgery for Raynaud's syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Raynaud's syndrome (RS), also referred to as Raynaud's phenomenon, is a vasospastic disorder causing episodic color changes in extremities upon exposure to cold or stress. These manifestations, either primary Raynaud's phenomenon (PRP) or associated with connective tissue diseases like systemic sclerosis (SSc) as secondary Raynaud's phenomenon (SRP), affect the quality of life. Current treatments range from calcium channel blockers to innovative surgical interventions, with evolving efficacy and safety profiles. METHODS: In this retrospective study, patients diagnosed with RS were

CXCR4 - a possible serum marker for risk stratification of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture is still associated with a mortality rate of 80-90%. Imaging techniques or molecular fingerprinting for patient-specific risk stratification to identify pending rupture are still lacking. The chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor (CXCR4) activation by CXCL12 ligand has been identified as a marker of inflammation and atherosclerosis, associated with AAA. Both are highly expressed in the aortic aneurysm wall. However, it is still unclear whether different expression levels of CXCR4 and CXCL12 can distinguish ruptured AAAs (rAAA) from intact AAAs (iA

Short-term preoperative protein restriction attenuates vein graft disease via induction of cystathionine γ-lyase.

AIMS: Therapies to prevent vein graft disease, a major problem in cardiovascular and lower extremity bypass surgeries, are currently lacking. Short-term preoperative protein restriction holds promise as an effective preconditioning method against surgical stress in rodent models, but whether it can improve vein graft patency after bypass surgery is undetermined. Here, we hypothesized that short-term protein restriction would limit vein graft disease via up-regulation of cystathionine γ-lyase and increased endogenous production of the cytoprotective gaseous signalling molecule hydrogen sulfide.

Microvasculature and intraplaque hemorrhage in atherosclerotic carotid lesions: a cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study.

BACKGROUND: The presence of intraplaque haemorrhage (IPH) has been related to plaque rupture, is associated with plaque progression, and predicts cerebrovascular events. However, the mechanisms leading to IPH are not fully understood. The dominant view is that IPH is caused by leakage of erythrocytes from immature microvessels. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether there is an association between atherosclerotic plaque microvasculature and presence of IPH in a relatively large prospective cohort study of patients with symptomatic carotid plaque. METHODS: One hundred and thir

VNUT and VMAT2 segregate within sympathetic varicosities and localize near preferred Cav2 isoforms in the rat tail artery.

ATP and norepinephrine (NE) are coreleased from peripheral sympathetic nerve terminals. Whether they are stored in the same vesicles has been debated for decades. Preferential dependence of NE or ATP release on Ca2+ influx through specific voltage-gated Ca2+ channel (Cav2) isoforms suggests that NE and ATP are stored in separate vesicle pools, but simultaneous imaging of NE and ATP containing vesicles within single varicosities has not been reported. We conducted an immunohistochemical study of vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2/SLC18A2) and vesicular nucleotide translocase (VNUT/SLC17A9

Natural history of optical coherence tomography-detected non-flow-limiting edge dissections following drug-eluting stent implantation.

AIMS: Angiographic evidence of edge dissections has been associated with a risk of early stent thrombosis. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a high-resolution technology detecting a greater number of edge dissections--particularly non-flow-limiting--compared to angiography. Their natural history and clinical implications remain unclear. The objectives of the present study were to assess the morphology, healing response, and clinical outcomes of OCT-detected edge dissections using serial OCT imaging at baseline and at one year following drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation. Prevalence and risk factors for gallbladder neoplasia in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis: evidence for a metaplasia-dysplasia-carcinoma sequence.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) carries an increased risk (10% to 20%) of hepatobiliary malignancy, especially cholangiocarcinoma (CC). Dysplasia, adenomas, and carcinomas of the gallbladder have been described in PSC but are less common than bile duct carcinomas. However, the prevalence and risk factors for gallbladder neoplasia among patients with PSC undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) have not been well studied. We evaluated 72 gallbladders from 100 consecutive liver explants for PSC, including 66 cholecystectomies performed at the time of OLT and 6 performed before OLT.

Distribution and significance of nerve growth factor receptor (NGFR/p75NTR) in normal, benign and malignant breast tissue.

Nerve growth factor receptor (NGFR) is a transmembrane glycoprotein without intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity, whose expression is not restricted to neural cells. NGFR is reported to act as a tumour suppressor, negatively regulating cell growth and proliferation. NGFR expression was immunohistochemically analysed in normal breast tissue and in 140 benign, biphasic and preinvasive breast lesions, in 22 tumours with myoepithelial differentiation and in two cohorts of breast cancer patients: a series of 245 invasive breast carcinomas studied with tissue microarrays and 37 high-grade invasive duc
