Adenomyomas are circumscribed tumorlike masses most often involving the uterus and consisting of endometrioid glands, stroma, and smooth muscle tissue. They are uncommon in extrauterine sites and in this situation it may be unclear whether such lesions represent foci of endometriosis with marked smooth muscle hyperplasia/metaplasia, uteruslike mass lesions, or leiomyomas with entrapped endometriotic glandular and stromal elements. In this report 2 cases of extrauterine adenomyoma are presented in which the smooth muscle component showed focal atypical (symplastic) cytologic appearances.

RATIONALE: Adenomyoma is a rare reactive, hamartomatous benign tumor-like lesion. Although adenomyoma can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, including the gallbladder, stomach, duodenum, and jejunum, it is very rarely observed in the extrahepatic bile duct and ampulla of Vater (AOV). The preoperative accurate diagnosis of adenomyoma of the Vaterian system, including the AOV and common bile duct, is significant to appropriate patient management. However, discriminating between benign and malignancy is highly challenging. Patients are frequently mistaken as having periampullary malign

Adenomyosis is characterized by the presence of ectopic endometrial tissue within the myometrium. Treatment options ranges from use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and hormonal suppression for symptomatic relief, to endometrial ablation or even hysterectomy. In this paper we report the case of successful ultrasound-guided aspiration of focal adenomyosis with intracavitary alcohol instillation in a young patient with symptomatic juvenile cystic adenomyoma. This is the second report of the treatment of sclerotherapy by alcohol instillation, which may be considered as an alternative moda

Atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APA) is a rare uterine lesion constituted by atypical endometrioid glands, squamous morules, and myofibromatous stroma. We aimed to assess the immunophenotype of the 3 components of APA, with regard to its pathogenesis and its differential diagnosis. A systematic review was performed by searching electronic databases from their inception to January 2019 for immunohistochemical studies of APA. Thirteen studies with 145 APA cases were included. APA glands appeared analogous to atypical endometrial hyperplasia (endometrioid cytokeratins pattern, Ki67≤50%, common PTEN

Adenomyoma and adenomyomatous hyperplasia are benign tumor-like lesions that rarely involve the major or minor duodenal papilla. We report the case of a 73-year-old patient who underwent a cephalic duodenopancreatectomy due to clinical and radiological evidence of underlying malignant neoplasm. The histopathology results revealed the unusual association of a major duodenal papilla adenomyoma and an adenomyomatous hyperplasia of the minor papilla. Because of their resemblance to pancreatic malignancy, the diagnosis of these lesions is particularly challenging. In most cases, it is established p

We report a 44 year old previously healthy premenopausal woman who presented with a three month history of vaginal bleeding and a 5 cm vaginal mass obscuring the cervix on physical examination. Ultrasound evaluation was non diagnostic. Pelvic MRI demonstrated a 6 cm soft tissue mass in the vagina prolapsed from the uterine cavity with a visible connecting stalk, which is termed the broccoli sign. The initial radiological differential diagnosis included prolapsed uterine malignancy or leiomyoma. Surgical pathology revealed a polypoid adenomyoma. We conclude polypoid adenomyoma should be include

Atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APA) is an uncommon uterine lesion that commonly recurs after local excision and is occasionally associated with or precedes the development of atypical hyperplasia or endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Despite the fact that about 230 cases have been reported in the literature, only 2 studies of 6 and of 7 cases have investigated the molecular aspects; as such, molecular alterations that occur in APA remain largely unknown. We undertook a comprehensive immunohistochemical and molecular analysis of 21 cases of APA in 17 patients (including 4 recurrent/persistent lesions)

BACKGROUND: Decidualization of uterine adenomyoma has not been reported, to the best of the author's knowledge.
AIM: To report a case of uterine adenomyoma with decidualization.
CASE REPORT: A 43-year-old pregnant woman with "myoma" underwent cesarean operation and "myomectomy" at 37 gestation weeks. The operation was successful, and the baby and mother were healthy. Grossly, the "myoma" measured 12 × 10 × 10 cm, and the consistency was firm. Microscopically, the tumor was adenomyoma consisting of smooth muscle bundles and endometrial islands. Characteristically, the endometrial stroma showe

Gastric adenomyoma is a rare tumour-like lesion composed of glandular components and smooth muscle bundles. We report a case of gastric adenomyoma in a 1-week-old neonate who presented with gastric outlet obstruction. To the best of our knowledge, this is the youngest child reported with gastric adenomyoma and a unique case demonstrating radiological findings of gastric adenomyoma in a young infant. At US, the lesion was seen as an asymmetrical mass-like wall-thickening of the pylorus. Upper gastrointestinal series showed findings similar to those seen in a case of hypertrophic pyloric stenosi

Adenomyomas are hamartomas of the alimentary tract with exceptionally rare localization at the ileum. The case presented here concerns an infant aged 18 months suffering from adenomyoma of the ileum, which was responsible for the development of ileoileac intussusception. Our paper aims at underlining the particularities of this extremely rare entity, while adding the 13th case reported to the international bibliographic references.

Adenomyoma of the stomach is an exceedingly rare and benign tumour. We report here what we believe to be the first documented case in Singapore. Our patient is unique in three respects; an eight-week old infant presented with signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction. Operative findings showed a small tumour in the pylorus of the stomach. The abdominal contents were covered with a colourless mucous slime, giving an appearance of pseudomyxoma peritonei. This is a feature which has not been hitherto reported. Microscopically, the lesion was consistent with adenomyoma of the pylorus. The inter

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the value of radiomics based on ultrasound in differentiating uterine fibroids (UFs) and uterine adenomyomas (AMs) and construct a noninvasive tool for this differentiation.
METHODS: The clinical data and ultrasound images of 659 patients diagnosed with UFs or AMs postoperatively were retrospectively analyzed at 3 institutions from January 2020 to December 2024. The cohort comprised patients with 422 UFs and 237 uterine AMs, divided into training (Institution 1 and Institution 2) and external test cohort (Institution 3). Radiomics features extracted from ultrasound ima

CONTEXT.—: The nature and associations of gallbladder (GB) "adenomyoma" (AM) remain controversial. Some studies have attributed up to 26% of GB carcinoma to AMs.
OBJECTIVE.—: To examine the true frequency, clinicopathologic characteristics, and neoplastic changes in GB AM.
DESIGN.—: Cholecystectomy cohorts analyzed were 1953 consecutive cases, prospectively with specific attention to AM; 2347 consecutive archival cases; 203 totally embedded GBs; 207 GBs with carcinoma; and archival search of institutions for all cases diagnosed as AM.
RESULTS.—: Frequency of AM was 9.3% (19 of 203) in total

OBJECTIVE: The clinical management of atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APAM) of the uterus remains to be established. We collected APAM cases, reviewed the clinicopathological features, and discussed the clinical management.
METHODS: Twenty-nine patients with APAM were identified by searching the tumor registry of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG). Clinical information and histological specimens were obtained from 13 institutional members of the JCOG, and a central pathological review was performed.
RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 38 years (range, 22-58). Squamous metaplasia wa

We report the case of a 42 year-old man, with a history of alcohol and tobacco abuse, who was referred for suspicion of carcinoma of the head of pancreas. Pancreatoduodenectomy was performed. Histological study demonstrated obstructive benign adenomyoma of the distal common bile duct associated with villous papillomatosis of the pancreatic ducts and patchy lesions of chronic pancreatitis. Two years later, the patient was completely asymptomatic, but the risk of malignant transformation of villous papillomatosis requires periodic examination of the remaining pancreas and biliary tract.

RATIONALE: Uterine adenomyomas (UAs) are common benign tumors, usually not exceeding 280 g or the weight of the uterus at 12 weeks gestation. Postmenopausal giant UAs of diameter larger than 20 cm are rare, as well as steatosis, but curable by surgical excision. Few cases of postmenopausal giant UAs have been reported.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Herein, we report a case of a 70-year-old female patient who presented with a giant pelvic tumor of about 20 cm × 18 cm × 20 cm with postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, and whose radiographic manifestations did not exclude the possibility of uterine malignancy.
