[Impulse control behaviors associated with antiparkinsonian medications].

In some patients, impulse control behaviours can be triggered by dopaminergic replacement therapy, particularly dopamine agonist drugs: hobbyism, punding (stereotyped behaviours), compulsive buying, binge eating disorder, pathological gamgling, hypersexuality, hedonistic homeostatic dysregulation syndrome ... The pathogenesis of these behaviours: is not well understood, but likely involves aberrant changes in the dopaminergic pathways that mediate motivation i.e., a dopaminergic "overdose" in meso-cortico-limbic circuits, An early diagnosis is difficult, but mandatory to prevent the occurrence

Behavioral interventions for the control of tuberculosis among adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: Activation of latent tuberculosis infection into tuberculosis disease (TB), the primary killer among infectious diseases worldwide, can be prevented with six months of anti-TB medication. A large percentage of adolescents started on medication, however, fail to complete their treatment. The authors developed and tested the effects of innovative educational strategies on infected adolescents at two health centers serving ethnically diverse populations. METHODS: The authors used a randomized experimental four-group design to assess the independent and combined effects of peer counse

Effects of trialkyltins on the schedule-controlled behavior of the pigeon.

Male White Carneaux pigeons trained to respond for food under a multiple fixed-ratio fixed-interval schedule of reinforcement were given single injections of trimethyltin (TMT), or triethyltin (TET). A dose of 0.3 mg/kg TMT produced no effect on behavior, while a 1.0 mg/kg dose was a threshold dose and 1.75 mg/kg produced behavioral changes that persisted for months in some birds. TMT produced effects on responding under the multiple schedule at approximately the same doses that produce neuronal damage in the hippocampus and the brain stem of the pigeon. Higher doses given to untrained birds p

Behavioral Tests for Mouse Models of Autism: An Argument for the Inclusion of Cerebellum-Controlled Motor Behaviors.

Mouse models of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have been interrogated using a variety of behavioral tests in order to understand the symptoms of ASD. However, the hallmark behaviors that are classically affected in ASD - deficits in social interaction and communication as well as the occurrence of repetitive behaviors - do not have direct murine equivalents. Thus, it is critical to identify the caveats that come with modeling a human disorder in mice. The most commonly used behavioral tests represent complex cognitive processes based on largely unknown brain circuitry. Motor impairments provid

The Effects of Risk Behaviors and Orthorexic Behavior on Glycemic Control in Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Adolescents with chronic disease are as likely to exhibit risk-taking behavior as their peers. The aim was to investigate the risk behaviors of adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the effect of orthorexic eating behaviors (OEB) on glycemic control (GC). METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 107 adolescents with T1D, aged between 13-18 years and attending high school. The Risk Behavior Scale (RBS) and Orthorexic Behavior Scale (ORTO-11) were administered. A high RBS score indicates risky behavior; a low ORTO-11 score suggests a tendency to OEB. Participants h

Control and connection: Associations between maternal behavioral control and toddler attachment patterns.

This study examines the association between the level of maternal behavioral control and toddlers' attachment patterns, focusing on toddlers aged 12-24 months (M = 17.18 months, SD = 3.31). The sample consisted of 60 Egyptian mother-child dyads. Maternal behavioral control-conceptualized within the framework of Interpersonal acceptance-rejection theory (IPARTheory)-was measured using the behavioral control scale, while toddlers' attachment patterns were assessed using Mary Ainsworth's Strange Situation Procedure (SSP). Results revealed significant differences in maternal behavioral control lev

The validation of the Checklist of Controlling Behaviors (CCB): assessing coercive control in abusive relationships.

The current study addresses the validation of the Checklist of Controlling Behaviors (CCB), an 84-item domestic violence assessment instrument that can be used to address multiple levels of violence and coercive control in violent relationships. Derived from clinical observation and current theories, the CCB makes use of intimate partner violence survivor reports to identify the intensity and frequency of relationship violence. The instrument is divided into 10 subscales including (1) physical abuse, (2) sexual abuse, (3) male privilege, (4) isolation, (5) minimizing and denying, (6) blaming,

The effect of a structured behavioral intervention on poorly controlled diabetes: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Although maintaining nearly normal glycemia delays onset and slows progression of diabetes complications, many patients with diabetes and their physicians struggle to achieve glycemic targets. The best methods to support patients as they follow diabetes prescriptions and recommendations are unclear. METHODS: To test the efficacy of a behavioral diabetes intervention in improving glycemia in long-duration, poorly controlled diabetes, we randomized 222 adults with diabetes (49% type 1) (mean [SD] age, 53 [12] years; mean [SD] disease duration 18 [12] years; mean [SD] hemoglobin A(1c

Voice in the algorithmic era: how perceived algorithmic control influences gig workers' voice behavior.

Existing studies have focused on gig workers' voice behavior and the mechanisms through which it is expressed via official and unofficial channels, the underlying logic of voice behavior generation, particularly its operational pathways under algorithmic control remains under-investigated. Drawing on fairness heuristic theory, this paper proposes a moderated mediation model to explore the effect of perceived algorithmic control on gig workers' voice behavior and its boundary condition. Based on the questionnaire data of 260 gig workers, the empirical results indicate that perceived algorithmic

Endophytic Entomopathogenic Fungi Shape Herbivore Behavior and Plant-Insect Interactions: Implications for Biological Control.

Entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) are well established as biological control agents, but their emerging role as endophytes reveals a broader and more powerful function in crop protection. By colonizing plant tissues, endophytic entomopathogenic fungi (EEPF) create a dynamic tripartite interaction between plants, fungi, and herbivores, enabling systemic, plant-mediated pest suppression. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the behavioral and ecological responses of herbivorous arthropods to EEPF-colonized plants, with an emphasis on the mechanisms and implications for integrated pest managem

Nothing to see here: The weak evidence base for unconscious control of human behavior.

Fleming and Michel propose that as our evolutionary ancestors made the water-to-land transition, model-based, conscious planning and thought developed alongside the model-free, unconscious, reflexive behaviors that were sufficient in aquatic environments. But a century of research has failed to build a compelling body of replicable evidence that behavior can be controlled unconsciously in humans, severely undermining this theory.

A symbiont-derived biosurfactant couples bacterial surface behavior and host peristalsis to control colonization.

Hosts must control symbiont abundance to ensure stable associations with their beneficial microbes, while also minimizing potentially harmful unrestricted microbial proliferation. Yet, the microbial stimuli and involved host responses that shape this colonization control, are usually unknown - in spite of their central role in shaping host-microbe and, more broadly, host-microbiota interactions. Here, using the natural association between Caenorhabditis elegans and its symbiont Pseudomonas lurida MYb11, we combine an unbiased bacterial genetic screen with a host-response reporter to identify t

Nonsuicidal self-injurious behavior in patients with and without epilepsy: a case-control study.

OBJECTIVES: Nonsuicidal self‑injury (NSSI) is common among persons with epilepsy (PWE) and is associated with multiple adverse outcomes, including suicide attempts. No prior study directly compared PWE with NSSI to NSSI patients without epilepsy. We aimed to test the hypothesis that PWE constitute a more severely affected subgroup of individuals engaging in NSSI in terms of clinical presentation and associated characteristics. METHODS: A case-control study was conducted: 42 consecutively enrolled patients with epilepsy and non‑psychotic mental disorders who engaged in NSSI were compared with

Control of feeding behavior by modified retrograde AAV to the gastrointestinal tract nerve afferents.

Vagal afferents originating in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract convey critical satiety signals but have remained challenging to target with precision. Here, we exploited a modified retrograde AAV2/rh10 vector delivered to the gastric wall to selectively transduce stomach-innervating nodose ganglion neurons and express the excitatory DREADD receptor hM3Dq. Chemogenetic activation of these afferents in mice acutely suppressed food intake by over 50% and induced robust c-Fos expression in neurons of the nucleus tractus solitarius and ventromedial (VMH) and arcuate nuclei of the hypothalamus

Behavior of Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure During a Routine Control Maneuver With Different Manometers.

BACKGROUND: The main functions of the endotracheal tube (ETT) cuff are to prevent aspiration and to allow pressurization of the respiratory system. For this purpose, it is essential to maintain adequate pressure inside the cuff, thus reducing the risks for the patient. It is regularly checked using a manometer and is considered the best alternative. The objective of this study was to evaluate the cuff pressure behavior of different ETTs during the simulation of an inflation maneuver using different manometers. METHODS: A bench study was performed. Four brands of 8-mm internal diameter single

Muscarinic Acetylcholine M2 Receptors Regulate Lateral Habenula Neuron Activity and Control Cocaine Seeking Behavior.

The lateral habenula (LHb) balances reward and aversion by opposing activation of brain reward nuclei and is involved in the inhibition of responding for cocaine in a model of impulsive behavior. Previously, we reported that the suppression of cocaine seeking was prevented by LHb inactivation or nonselective antagonism of LHb mAChRs. Here, we investigate mAChR subtypes mediating the effects of endogenous acetylcholine in this model of impulsive drug seeking and define cellular mechanisms in which mAChRs alter LHb neuron activity. Using in vitro electrophysiology, we find that LHb neurons are d

Personalized behavior management as a replacement for medications for pain control and mood regulation.

A lack of personalized approaches in non-medication pain management has prevented these alternative forms of treatment from achieving the desired efficacy. One hundred and ten female patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and 60 healthy women without chronic pain were assessed for severity of chronic or retrospective occasional pain, respectively, along with alexithymia, depression, anxiety, coping strategies, and personality traits. All analyses were conducted following a 'resource matching' hypothesis predicting that to be effective, a behavioral coping mechanism diverting or producing co
