Exploring Social Media Rumination: Associations With Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Distress.

In this study, we examined students' perceptions of peer aggression occurring within their school environment and how these perceptions are interconnected with both social media rumination and distress. Social media usage is associated with a range of negative mental health and interpersonal outcomes for adolescents. Social media use can increase youth's vulnerability to peer victimization and psychosocial difficulties. In addition, ruminating when sad or stressed has been linked to elevated distress for youth experiencing peer aggression. Yet rumination specifically regarding social media act

Translating the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program into real-world practice.

This article describes the application of a community collaboration model implementing an evidence-based bullying-prevention program in elementary and middle schools. Between 2001 and 2006, the Office of School Climate and Safety, Office of Research and Evaluation, the local chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, and a local researcher partnered to implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (BPP). The BPP is a blueprints program for youth violence prevention, following the public health model of needs assessment, problem definition, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Thi

Workplace bullying in nursing: towards a more critical organisational perspective.

Workplace bullying is a significant issue confronting the nursing profession. Bullying in nursing is frequently described in terms of 'oppressed group' behaviour or 'horizontal violence'. It is proposed that the use of 'oppressed group' behaviour theory has fostered only a partial understanding of the phenomenon in nursing. It is suggested that the continued use of 'oppressed group' behaviour as the major means for understanding bullying in nursing places a flawed emphasis on bullying as a phenomenon that exists only among nurses, rather than considering it within the broader organisational co

The association between bullying behaviour, arousal levels and behaviour problems.

Research into bullying behaviour has identified two main categories of bullying behaviour, direct bullying and relational bullying, within which different profiles are evident, namely 'pure' bullies, 'pure' victims, bully/victims and neutral children. The current study examined the relationship between direct and relational bullying profiles, arousal levels, and behaviour problems. 242 (males: 121, females: 121) Secondary school pupils (mean age 13.5 years) completed three questionnaires; the Arousal Predisposition Scale (APS) (Behav. Res. Therapy 26 (1988) 415); the School Relationships Quest

Workplace bullying, harassment and discrimination among UK occupational health practitioners.

BACKGROUND: Within UK occupational health (OH) practice, unlike the National Health Service, there is an absence of research on workplace bullying, harassment or abuse (BHA) and discrimination. AIMS: To investigate the prevalence of workplace BHA and discrimination among UK OH practitioners and to identify any differences on the basis of certain personal or work-related characteristics. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted by the administration of a developed questionnaire by key UK OH organisations to their respective memberships. Descriptive statistics were used to summarise s

Bullying, Psychosis-Like Experiences, and Functional Network Connectivity in Adolescents.

UNLABELLED: Bullying is an adverse childhood experience affecting up to one-third of the global population and linked to psychosis-like experiences (PLEs), which increase the risk of psychotic disorders. This study aimed to investigate the association between the severity and persistence of bullying and PLEs, including non-paranoid, hallucination-like experiences and their distress, and whether multiscale brain functional network connectivity (msFNC) mediates the pathway from bullying to PLEs. METHODS: We used data from the ABCD Study, a large, multisite, population-based prospective cohort s

Smartphones, Emotions and Bullying Among Adolescents: A PRISMA Systematic Review.

This systematic review, following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analyzes scientific literature on bullying and cyberbullying among adolescents (aged 12-16) in educational settings, focusing on ICT, smartphone hyperconnectivity, and emotional education. An exhaustive search across Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Dialnet, CSIC, SciELO, and Google Scholar identified 34 empirical studies. A narrative synthesis was performed due to methodological heterogeneity. The synthesized evidence suggests that cyberbullying frequently acts as a persistent extension of school violence, where continuous digital expos

Association Between Parental Violence and School Bullying Victimization in China.

In China, the "Tiger Mom, Wolf Dad" parenting style remains prevalent; however, its implications for the personal development of children and adolescents warrant further exploration. To examine the association between parental violence and school bullying victimization, using data from the 2018 Beijing Student Common Diseases and Health Influencing Factors Survey and the Heckman Probit Model, this study examines the interactive effects of interpersonal violence in the "family-school" contexts. A total of 21,603 students were sampled, including primary school students (Grades 4-6, aged 9-12), m

Self-Perceived Bullying Victimization in Pre-Adolescent Schoolchildren With ADHD.

INTRODUCTION: Legionella pneumophila can cause a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from a mild flu-like illness to fulminant multi-organ involvement, characterised by severe pneumonia, diarrhoea, encephalopathy, shock, hepatic dysfunction and renal failure. Very rarely, it can be associated with haematologic conditions such as thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). We report a rare case of L. pneumophila causing ITP and review previously published cases of thrombocytopenia associated with Legionell

ASD Symptoms, Social Skills, and Comorbidity: Predictors of Bullying Perpetration.

Children with ASD are more likely to be involved in bullying compared to typically developing peers; however, studies rarely examine bullying perpetration and the contributing factors among this population. The primary aim of this study was to examine the extent to which parent-reported ASD symptoms, social skills, and comorbid externalizing and internalizing symptoms predicted bullying perpetration in a sample of 390 children with ASD without intellectual disability. Findings from hierarchical regression analyses indicated that social skill deficits, externalizing symptoms (i.e., hyperactivit

How is Congruence in Teacher-Student Relationships and Student-Student Relationships Linked to Bullying Victimization and Bullying Perpetration Among Left-Behind Children in Rural China?

Both teacher-student relationships and student-student relationships are beneficial in reducing children's bullying victimization and perpetration. However, little is known about how congruence in two school-based relationship systems is linked to left-behind children's bullying victimization and bullying perpetration. The sample comprised 1346 left-behind children in rural China, including 735 boys and 611 girls. The mean ages were 11.97 years (SD = 0.85). The current study aimed to examine how the congruence and incongruence across two key school-based relationship systems jointly impacted b

Prevalence and factors associated with bullying based on the Indonesian version of revised Olweus/Bully Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ-R) among senior high school students.

BACKGROUND: School bullying among adolescents is a significant global public health concern, yet its prevalence and contributing factors in Indonesia remain largely unexplored. The revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ-r) is a widely recognised tool for assessing school bullying and is currently available in Bahasa. This study aims to determine the prevalence and associated factors of bullying victimisation among senior high school (SHS) students using the Indonesian version of OBVQ-r. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two public SHS and four private SHS. Participant

Humiliation and Anger as Emotional Mediators of Behavioral Responses to Bullying Victimization.

In bullying victimization settings, this research examines how emotional responses of humiliation and anger are influenced by key cognitive appraisals and how they relate to various behavioral tendencies. Two cross-sectional studies were conducted using self-report surveys to collect the data and structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized models. Study 1 included 1,347 participants, and Study 2 included 1,199 participants. To address sample diversity, potential gender differences in the variables of interest were explored. Both studies revealed that bullying victimization was linked
