Hydroxyapatite composite resin cement augmentation of pedicle screw fixation.

Pedicle screw stability is poor in osteopenic vertebrae attributable, in part, to low screw-bone interface strength. The current authors examined cement augmentation using a low curing temperature hydroxyapatite and bis-phenol-A glycidol methacrylate-based composite resin. This cement may stiffen the screw-bone interface and reduce the harmful effects associated with polymethylmethacrylate regarding temperature and toxic monomer. Thirty-five lumbar vertebrae from human cadavers were instrumented with pedicle screws, with one pedicle previously injected with cement and the other as the control.

Composite resin as a means of improving the appearance of periodontally involved teeth.

Composite resin has become established not only as a material for restoring carious teeth, but also as a means of veneering discoloured or misshapen teeth. This case report describes how composite resin was used to improve the appearance of a tooth which had become unsightly as the result of a combination of gingival recession and attrition. This was done by veneering both the root surface and the cervical area of the crown.

Rehabilitation to crown-root fracture by fragment reattachment with resin-modified glass ionomer cement and composite resin restoration.

Tooth fragment reattachment in cases of enamel/dentin fracture is based on adhesive protocols and is indicated because of its technique simplicity. Complex cases of root fracture or extensive coronal damage demand the integration of biological properties with the mechanical characteristics of the restorative materials. This paper is a report from one patient with a favourable result that addresses the clinical procedures involved in the association of resin-modified glass ionomer cement and composite resin for cases of coronal fracture of anterior teeth with invasion of the periodontal biologi

Mechanical properties and sustainable bacterial resistance effect of strontium-modified phosphate-based glass microfiller in dental composite resins.

Dental composite resins are widely used in dental restorations. However, their clinical application is limited by the occurrence of secondary caries. Strontium-modified phosphate-based glass (Sr-PBG) is a material known to have a sustainable bacterial resistance effect. The mechanical properties (in particular, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, and hardness) of dental materials determine their function. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the mechanical and ion-releasing properties as well as the sustainable bacterial resistance effect of bioactive resin composites containing Sr

Development of metal-resin composite restorative material. Part 5: Evaluation of the bonding between Ag-Sn particle and 4-META coupling agent of the metal-resin composite.

This study evaluated the oxide characteristics on a Ag-Sn particle surface modified by acid and heat in order to understand the bonding mechanism. Nine different Ag-Sn particles including standard Sn, SnO and SnO2 were evaluated by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The particles were also used for preparing the composite to test the flexural properties following the ISO 4049. A high correlation between flexural strength of the composites and Sn3d binding energy of their filler particles was found. Different oxide forms (SnO and SnO2) showed different adhesive abilities to bond with 4-MET
