Evaluation of open-face maxillary complete denture for patients with prominent premaxilla: a crossover study.

BACKGROUND: The establishment of good facial esthetics is one of the main objectives of complete denture construction. Unfortunately, it may be the caused issue for patients having a prominent premaxilla due to excessive lip support by the labial flange of the maxillary denture. Open-face dentures (OFD) may suggest suitable prosthetic management for these patients. However, clinical evidence regarding the efficiency of OFD is scarce. METHODS: A total of 38 completely edentulous participants having prominent premaxilla and skeletal class I Angle's classification were enrolled in this study. Ea

Restoring Function and Esthetics in Complete Edentulism: A Case Report of Implant-Supported Hybrid Denture.

Complete edentulism significantly affects the esthetics, function, and quality of life of the elderly. Implant-supported hybrid dentures are superior to conventional removable prostheses in terms of stability, esthetics, and masticatory function. This case report details the dental rehabilitation of a 75-year-old female patient seeking total dental restoration. Clinical evaluation revealed partial edentulism in both arches accompanied by residual root stumps. Eight endosseous implants were placed in the maxilla and seven in the mandible following a delayed loading protocol to ensure optimal os

Complete Denture Fabrication in a Patient with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Active Tobacco Use.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have varying degrees of compromised airway function that can affect their ability to tolerate dental treatment. Thus, the delivery of dental care to individuals with COPD may need to be modified based on an understanding of the severity and control of the patient's disease, exacerbating factors, frequency of signs/symptoms, and disease management protocols. There is a strong association between aspiration of plaque organisms and pneumonia in individuals with COPD. Good oral hygiene and tobacco cessation education can help mitigate COPD

Microstrain Analysis of Selective Pressure Techniques for Mandibular Complete Denture Impression: An In Vivo Study.

Aim The present in vivo study was undertaken for microstrain analysis of the selective pressure impression technique using strain gauges in mandibular complete denture impression. Methodology Ten completely edentulous patients undergoing complete denture treatment were selected for the study. For each patient, mandibular casts were made, and two custom trays were fabricated on the mandibular cast. These mandibular trays were divided into two groups: those with mandibular impressions made in the custom tray with the use of a spacer (MST) and those without a spacer (MWS). For each patient, a pri

[Survey of treatment-seeking complete denture wearers concerning tooth loss, retention behavior and treatment expectations].

The aim of the current study was to gather information about time and etiology of tooth loss, and to analyze the reasons for treatment needs with a questionnaire used among edentulous patients. 60 patients (age 44-98 years) who requested dental treatment were included. More than half of the patients were edentulous before the age of 60, in almost all cases the maxilla was affected first. This difference was more pronounced in women, who experienced tooth loss in the maxilla 17 years prior to the mandible. At the time of edentulism women were about ten years younger than men. According to patie

Salivary Parameters Before and After Removable Complete Denture Rehabilitation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Salivary parameters are clinically relevant for complete denture (CD) lubrication, comfort, retention, and adaptation in edentulous patients. Although an immediate salivary response following CD insertion is biologically plausible, the magnitude and persistence of changes in salivary flow, pH, and biomarkers after treatment remain incompletely understood. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the installation of new CDs influences salivary parameters (flow rate, pH and biomarkers) in edentulous patients, both under stimulated and unstimulated conditions. METHODS: Five databases were

Molecular Identification and Phylogenetic Characterization of Yeast Species Isolated from Complete Denture in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

The increasing prevalence of oral fungal infections, particularly among denture wearers, underscores the need for accurate species identification. To investigate the prevalence and diversity of yeast species colonizing dentures. Oral swabs from denture surfaces were collected from 100 participants at the Peramerd Dental Center, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, from September to November 2024. Samples were cultured on chromogenic media, and yeast isolates were identified and sequenced. Then, phylogenetic analysis was performed using the Neighbour-Joining method. Candida albicans was the most prevalent isola

A Finite Element Analysis Study of Edentulous Model with Complete Denture to Simulate Masticatory Movement.

The purposes of this study are to establish and validate a finite element (FE) model using finite element analysis methods and to identify optimal loading conditions to simulate masticatory movement. A three-dimensional FE model of the maxillary and mandibular cortical bone, cancellous bone, and gingiva was constructed based on edentulous cone-beam-computed tomography data. Dental computer-aided design software was used to design the denture base and artificial teeth to produce a complete denture. Mesh convergence was performed to derive the optimal mesh size, and validation was conducted thro

Removable complete denture with a metal base: Integration of digital design and conventional fabrication techniques.

OBJECTIVE: Digitally-designed removable complete dentures are typically composed of a resin denture base without a metal framework. However, metal denture bases are preferable as resin bases are more susceptible to fracture. Therefore, this article introduces a unique technique that integrates computer-aided design (CAD) and conventional resin processing for the fabrication of removable complete dentures with a metal framework. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS: A maxillary complete denture with a metal base and a mandibular implant-retained overdenture reinforced with a metal framework were fabricated

Anatomical study of the palatine aponeurosis: application to posterior palatal seal of the complete maxillary denture.

The palatine aponeurosis is a thin, fibrous lamella comprising the extended tendons of the tensor veli palatini muscles, attached to the posterior border and inferior surface of the palatine bone. In dentistry, the relationship between the "vibrating line" and the border of the hard and soft palate has long been discussed. However, to our knowledge, there has been no discussion of the relationship between the palatine aponeurosis and the vibrating line(s). Twenty sides from ten fresh frozen White cadaveric heads (seven males and three females) whose mean age at death was 79 years) were used in
