Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) is a promising technique for assessing spinal cord injury (SCI) that has historically been challenged by the presence of metallic stabilization hardware. This study leverages recent advances in metal-artifact resistant multi-spectral DW-MRI to enable diffusion quantification throughout the spinal cord even after fusion stabilization. Twelve participants with cervical spinal cord injuries treated with fusion stabilization and 49 asymptomatic able-bodied control participants underwent multi-spectral DW-MRI evaluation. Apparent diffusion coef

INTRODUCTION: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a common surgery with a varying difficulty level. Difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy may be experienced by many surgeons. If difficult procedures are predicted preoperatively, surgeons may be able to plan the surgical approach and treatment accordingly. Studies have reported using blood and clinical imaging data to predict difficult cholecystectomy. However, to our knowledge, no studies have reported using MRI. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of MRI as a predictor of difficult laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
METHODS: We

The lateral ventricular perimeter (LVP) of the brain is a critical region because in addition to housing neural stem cells required for brain development, it facilitates cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) bulk flow and functions as a blood-CSF barrier to protect periventricular white matter (PVWM) and other adjacent regions from injurious toxins. LVP injury is common, particularly among preterm infants who sustain intraventricular hemorrhage or post hemorrhagic hydrocephalus and has been associated with poor neurological outcomes. Assessment of the LVP with diffusion MRI has been challenging, primarily

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) represents a major advance in the early diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke. It can detect edema due to ischemia in the brain tissue. It not only establishes the presence and location of ischemic brain injury but also a relatively new concept is the determination of infarct patterns seen on diffusion imaging and its clinical correlation. Objective To determine the frequency of various infarct patterns and their relationship with functional outcome of the patient. Materials and methods A total of 108 patients with acute stroke were enrolled

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), a functional imaging technique exploiting the Brownian motion of water molecules, is increasingly shown to have value in various oncological and non-oncological applications. Factors such as the ease of acquisition and ability to obtain functional information in the absence of intravenous contrast, especially in patients with abnormal renal function, have contributed to the growing interest in exploring clinical applications of DWI. In the liver, DWI demonstrates a gamut of clinical applications ranging from detecting focal liver lesions to monitoring response

OBJECTIVE: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) is a sensitive method for assessing brain maturation and detecting brain lesions, providing apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values as a measure of water diffusion. Abnormal ADC values are seen in ischemic brain lesions, such as those associated with acute or chronic hypoxia. The aim of this study was to assess whether ADC values in the fetal brain were different in fetuses with severe intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) compared with normal controls.
METHODS: Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with single-shot axial DW

Diffusion-weighted imaging is an advanced magnetic resonance imaging technique that is well established in the diagnosis of nonhemorrhagic infarction in people. However, recent investigations into intracranial neoplastic and inflammatory disease in people have identified variable and overlapping results. In this retrospective study of 37 dogs with histologically confirmed intracranial disease, we investigated whether histogram analysis of quantitative apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) can differentiate specific disease processes. Disease categories included: meningiomas, glial cell tumors,
