Two male patients with photoallergic contact dermatitis to musk ambrette, 2-methoxy-3,5-dinitro-4-methyl-t-butylbenzene, are reported. Musk ambrette is a synthetic fragrance material commonly used in foods and cosmetics. The clinical distribution of lesions presented by these patients strongly suggested an adverse reaction to light. The distribution of DNP groups in various tissues of guinea-pigs following intravenous injection of DNBSO3Na was investigated by an immunofluorescent method using FITC-labelled anti-DNP antibody. DNP groups were detected either in the cytoplasms of epidermal cells or on/in lymphoid tissue cells. In this work, we have designed and synthesized a dinitrobenzene-sulfonate tetrahydro[5]helicene (H-DNP) as an effective fluorescent probe for detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Upon the addition of H2S, a significant fluorescence enhancement (75-fold) at 495 nm can be observed with a distinct color change from colorless to yellow. Myenteric plexus alterations hamper gastrointestinal motor function during intestinal inflammation. Contact hypersensitivity (CHS) is an experimental model of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) that can be studied in mice. For CHS responses, mice are immunized by painting with a reactive hapten, such as 1-fluoro-4,6-dinitrobenzene (DNFB), on the shaved abdominal and chest skin. The role of glutathione-S-transferase (GST, EC 2.5.1.18) in biochemical host defence in experimental trichinellosis was evaluated. The activity of GST in mouse skeletal muscles was measured during the muscular phase of trichinellosis, starting from the 3rd week post infection (w.p.i.) to the 11th w.p.i. We show that N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has the ability to cause statistically significant diminishment in the in vitro formation of irreversibly sickled cells (ISCs) at concentrations greater than 250 micromol/L. Other antioxidants, approved for human use (cysteamine, succimer, dimercaprol), were not efficacious. Guinea pigs were exposed by head only inhalation for 5 h to concentrations of approximately 1 ppm of tolylene diisocyanate (TDI) and 14 days later pinnal application of TDI on 3 consecutive days was followed by a dermal application of TDI after a further 7 days. Microtubule dynamics are critically important for plant cell development. Here, we show that Arabidopsis thaliana ARMADILLO-REPEAT KINESIN1 (ARK1) plays a key role in root hair tip growth by promoting microtubule catastrophe events. Technical dinitrotoluene (DNT) is a mixture of 2,4- and 2,6-DNT. In humans, industrial or environmental exposure can occur orally, by inhalation, or by skin contact. By means of epicutaneous tests under standard conditions we studied the cell-mediated contact sensitivity to dinitrophenyl (DNP) conjugates of the stereoisomeric amino acids L-alpha-alanine and D-alpha-alanine, respectively, in patients sensitized with dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB). There was no difference in the number of positive skin responses with the two enantiomeric compounds DNP-L-alpha-alanine (16/26) and DNP-D-alpha-alanine (17/26). Fourteen patients with lobomycosis from the Amazon Basin were studied in order to assess their humoral and cellular immunological responses. The humoral response was normal, as shown by the normal levels of serum immunoglovulins. The cellular immunity was depressed for recent sensitizations as measured by skin contact test with DNCB (negative in 83.3% of 12 patients).
