Virus associated diarrhea remains one of the leading causes of children morbidity and mortality in Bangladesh. Human bocavirus (HBoV) has been reported as a potential pathogen of children's diarrhea worldwide. However, due to its frequent association with other gastroenteric pathogens, its role as diarrhea causative agent remains to be defined. This study focuses to detect the incidence of HBoV and adenovirus (AdV) and to determine the molecular and epidemiological characteristics of HBoV and AdV. Between January 2015 to January 2019, 290 fecal specimens were collected from diarrheal children

To understand the clinical epidemiology and molecular characteristics of human bocavirus (HBoV) infection in children with diarrhoea in Guangzhou, South China, we collected 1128 faecal specimens from children with diarrhoea from July 2010 to December 2012. HBoV and five other major enteric viruses were examined using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Human rotavirus (HRV) was the most prevalent pathogen, detected in 250 (22·2%) cases, followed by enteric adenovirus (EADV) in 76 (6·7%) cases, human astrovirus (HAstV) in 38 (3·4%) cases, HBoV in 17 (1·5%) cases, sapovirus (SaV) in 14 (1·2%) c

Human Bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) majorly affects infants and children, resulting severe lower respiratory tract infections. Since its first identification in 2005, HBoV1 has been detected in up to 18 % of respiratory infection cases, with a chronicity rate ranging from 2 % to 19 % in pediatric populations. Despite its considerable clinical impact, no specific vaccines or targeted therapies are currently available. This study aimed to design a chimera vaccine via reverse vaccinology and immunoinformatics approaches. T-cell and B-cell epitopes were derived and subsequently screened for non-allergenicit

UNLABELLED: Human bocavirus (HBoVs) is an emerging virus globally, and its prevalence, diversity, and evolution in children with acute gastroenteritis require further study. Fecal specimens collected from outpatients with acute gastroenteritis in Beijing, China, from April 2014 to December 2023, were tested for HBoVs by PCR targeting the NS1 gene. Genotyping was based on the NP1/VP1 boundary region, and nearly full-length HBoV2 sequences were analyzed phylogenetically. A total of 79 HBoVs-positive specimens (2.5%, 79/3,116, 95% CI: 2.0%-3.1%) were detected, with HBoV2 (65.8%, 52/79, 95% CI: 55

UNLABELLED: Parvoviruses are single-stranded DNA viruses that use the palindromic structures at the ends of the viral genome for their replication. The mechanism of parvovirus replication has been studied mostly in the dependoparvovirus adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV2) and the protoparvovirus minute virus of mice (MVM). Here, we used human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) to understand the replication mechanism of bocaparvovirus. HBoV1 is pathogenic to humans, causing acute respiratory tract infections, especially in young children under 2 years old. By using the duplex replicative form of the HBoV1 genome

UNLABELLED: A novel chimeric parvoviral vector, rAAV2/HBoV1, in which the recombinant adeno-associated virus 2 (rAAV2) genome is pseudopackaged by the human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) capsid, has been shown to be highly efficient in gene delivery to human airway epithelia (Z. Yan et al., Mol Ther 21:2181-2194, 2013,http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/mt.2013.92). In this vector production system, we used an HBoV1 packaging plasmid, pHBoV1NSCap, that harbors HBoV1 nonstructural protein (NS) and capsid protein (Cap) genes. In order to simplify this packaging plasmid, we investigated the involvement of the HBoV1

Human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) can persist in nasopharynx and tonsils. Using HBoV1 serology, reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detecting messenger RNA (mRNA) and quantitative PCR for HBoV1 genome load count, we studied to what extent the HBoV1 DNA loads in nasopharynx correlate with acute infection markers. Tonsillar tissue, nasopharyngeal aspirate, and serum were obtained from 188 elective adeno-/tonsillectomy patients. Relatively high loads of HBoV1 DNA were detected in the nasopharynx of 14 (7%) primarily asymptomatic subjects with negative mRNA and/or serodiagnostic resu

SUMMARYTwenty years after the first description of human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) as a respiratory pathogen, significant progress has been made in both clinical and basic research; however, important clinical, diagnostic, and molecular challenges remain before bocavirus pathobiology is fully understood. The discovery of HBoV1 and its notorious prolonged shedding have challenged the new sensitive multiplex PCR panel-based diagnostic testing that replaced the old antigen assays, leading to erroneous classification of HBoV1 as an innocent bystander. Both sophisticated diagnostics and cytopathic effect

BACKGROUND: Rhinovirus (RV)-induced first wheezing episodes in children are associated with a markedly increased risk of asthma. Previous studies have suggested that human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) may modify RV-induced immune responses in young children. We investigated cytokine profiles of sole RV- and dual RV-HBoV1-induced first wheezing episodes, and their association with severity and prognosis.
METHODS: Fifty-two children infected with only RV and nine children infected with dual RV-HBoV1, aged 3-23 months, with severe first wheezing episodes were recruited. At acute illness and 2 weeks later

Persistent infection and prolonged shedding of human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) in children have been reported, and the role of HBoV1 as a sole causative pathogen in acute respiratory infection (ARI) is yet to be established. While the reported prevalence of HBoV infection varies due to different detection methods and sampling criteria, determining the viral and bacterial etiology of HBoV infection using multiplex real-time PCR is yet to be reported. Herein, we aimed to further explore the pathogenicity of HBoV in patients with ARI by screening the viral and bacterial infections in children with ARI

This study aimed to investigate the frequency and genotypic diversity of human bocavirus (HBoV) in historical fecal samples collected before 2005 in Brazil and understand its natural history in patients with diarrhea. Between 1998 and 2005, 3347 samples were tested for HBoV by RT-PCR, with a detection rate of 5.8% (195/3347). Coinfection with norovirus (NoV) and human adenovirus (HAdV) was found in 34.9% (68/195), indicating HBoV's potential role as a causative agent of diarrheal disease. The detection rate varied over the years (p < 0.05), suggesting natural oscillatory fluctuations. HBoV was
