DCE-UNet: a transformer-based fully automated segmentation network for multiple adolescent spinal disorders in x-ray images.

In recent years, spinal x-ray image segmentation has played a vital role in the computer-aided diagnosis of various adolescent spinal disorders. However, due to the complex morphology of lesions and the fact that most existing methods are tailored to single-disease scenarios, current segmentation networks struggle to balance local detail preservation and global structural understanding across different disease types. As a result, they often suffer from limited accuracy, insufficient robustness, and poor adaptability. To address these challenges, we propose a novel fully automated spinal segmen

DEC-DRR: deep ensemble of classification model for diabetic retinopathy recognition.

Most diabetes patients are liable to have diabetic retinopathy (DR); however, the majority of them might not be even aware of the ailment. Therefore, early detection and treatment of DR are necessary to prevent vision loss. But, avoiding DR is not a simple process. An ophthalmologist can typically identify DR through an optical evaluation of the fundus and through the evaluation of color pictures. However, due to the increased count of DR patients, this could not be possible as it consumes more time. To rectify this problem, a novel deep ensemble-based DR classification technique is developed

UniTransAD: Unified Translation Framework for Anomaly Detection in Brain MRI.

Unsupervised anomaly detection (UAD) in brain MRI is crucial for early diagnosis, yet generalizing existing methods across diverse diseases, sequences, and missing data scenarios remains a significant challenge. Current reconstruction-based methods often fail to detect subtle anomalies, while conventional translation methods lack flexibility regarding input sequences. To address these limitations, we propose UniTransAD, a unified translation-based anomaly detection framework. UniTransAD introduces three key innovations: 1) a unified cyclic-translation inference paradigm built upon content-styl

Bi-directional YOLOv10 with average convolution for brain tumor detection in MRI.

Medical professionals rely on MRI scans to evaluate brain tumors, a task prone to fatigue and subjective interpretation. This study enhances the YOLOv10 model by integrating two innovative modules: AvConv module and Bidirectional Pathway, both designed to improve detection accuracy. Experiments were conducted using two Kaggle datasets (Dataset 1: 1116 images; Dataset 2: 153 images), both annotated for tumor presence. The proposed model was compared against eight mainstream object detection methods. Results demonstrate that the proposed AvConv module achieves mAP50 of 88.5% and mAP50-95 of 77.7

ASPP-HAM-UNet: a modified UNet for moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury segmentation.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) lesion segmentation from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains challenging because lesions exhibit substantial heterogeneity in size, shape, intensity, and anatomical distribution. Conventional UNet-based segmentation models often struggle to accurately delineate fragmented or low-contrast lesion boundaries while maintaining contextual consistency. In this study, we propose Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP)-Hybrid Attention Module (HAM)-UNet, a modified UNet architecture that integrates ASPP and a HAM for moderate-to-severe TBI (msTBI) lesion segmentation in

A transfer learning-driven fine-tuning of YOLOv10 for improved brain tumor detection in MRI images.

Identifying brain tumors accurately through medical imaging is vital in supporting computer-aided diagnostic systems, playing an essential role in early disease identification and effective treatment planning. Manual analysis of medical scans, like MRI scans, often slow and susceptible to human error, emphasizing the growing demand for automated, efficient, and precise detection systems. In the proposed study, we present an enhanced approach to fine-tuning an object detection model for accurately identifying brain tumors, demonstrating the capabilities of deep learning techniques in medical im

A simple procedure to improve FMRIb Software Library Brain Extraction Tool performance.

The Oxford FMRIb Software Library (FSL) Brain Extraction Tool (BET) is a widely used algorithm for removing extracranial tissues from MR images. Although BET is effective and simple to operate, it often fails to exclude fully all non-brain tissues unless the centre of gravity of the brain is specified to the programme. In this communication we present a recursive procedure for using BET that is extremely robust for extracting brain images without any manual intervention. The approach was tested on 150 adult head volumes and produced accurate results in all cases. The approach is efficient and

Biofield potential simulation as a novel adjunt modality for continuous monitoring of breast lesions: a 3D numerical model.

Breast cancer is a disease characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. Early detection of this disease is the most effective way to reduce mortality. Although several new technologies show promise for improved capability of diagnosis, none have yet proved superior to traditional, X-ray film mammography in screening for breast cancer. More evaluation and development of new imaging tools and of promising skin surface electrical potential techniques is required and warranted. In the present study, we propose a theoretical three-dimensional, simplified and realistic model of the fe

Boundary-Aware Spectral and Morphological Guidance Method for Feature-Driven Colorectal Cancer Segmentation.

Precise segmentation of medical images plays a crucial role in modern clinical practice, providing important foundations for the quantitative analysis of medical images and clinical decision making. However, although deep learning techniques have achieved significant success in conventional medical image segmentation, they still exhibit obvious limitations when faced with complex structure segmentation tasks such as colorectal cancer: high-quality medical data acquisition is not only difficult, but also even when data is relatively sufficient, the diverse morphological features of lesions cann

Uncertainty as risk: A plug-and-play evidence-guided framework with error-aligned calibration for medical image segmentation.

Medical image segmentation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and treatment planning. However, in complex scenarios, factors such as boundary ambiguity, annotation noise, and domain shift often lead models to be overconfident, limiting the interpretability and trustworthy deployability. To address this, we propose a "plug-and-play" evidence-guided framework for reliable medical image segmentation. By incorporating an evidential constraint to suppress "high-confidence but erroneous" predictions, and without altering the existing segmentation backbone architecture, we append a lightweight evident

Acquisition-independent deep learning for quantitative MRI parameter estimation using neural controlled differential equations.

Deep learning has proven to be a suitable alternative to least squares (LSQ) fitting for parameter estimation in various quantitative MRI (QMRI) models. However, current deep learning implementations are not robust to changes in MR acquisition protocols. In practice, QMRI acquisition protocols differ substantially between different studies and clinical settings. The lack of generalizability and adoptability of current deep learning approaches for QMRI parameter estimation impedes the implementation of these algorithms in clinical trials and clinical practice. Neural Controlled Differential Equ

General retinal image enhancement via reconstruction: Bridging distribution shifts using latent diffusion adaptors.

Deep learning-based fundus image enhancement has attracted extensive research attention recently, which has shown remarkable effectiveness in improving the visibility of low-quality images. However, these methods are often constrained to specific datasets and degradations, leading to poor generalization capabilities and having challenges in the fine-tuning process. Therefore, a general method for fundus image enhancement is proposed for improved generalizability and flexibility, which decomposes the enhancement task into reconstruction and adaptation phases. In the reconstruction phase, self-s

MSTM-Net: a two-stage prostate cancer segmentation network based on swin-transformer-mamba architecture.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a core imaging modality for prostate cancer screening and diagnosis. Accurate and automatic segmentation of lesion regions is critical for subsequent staging assessment and treatment planning. METHODS: To this end, this research proposes a two-stage segmentation framework for multimodal MRI. In the first stage, the prostate gland is segmented to extract the region of interest (ROI), thereby removing complex pelvic background structures. In the second stage, fine-grained prostate cancer lesion segmentation is performed within the ROI, ena

Deep learning "super resolution" versus iterative reconstruction: Phantom-based image quality assessment.

BACKGROUND: Deep learning reconstruction (DLR) algorithms have begun replacing iterative reconstruction (IR) in CT. Besides the potential to reduce noise, the application of artificial intelligence can also allow for "super resolution," allowing traditional CT systems to produce images with improved spatial resolution by training against higher-resolution images. This study aims to characterize the image quality produced by a DLR "super resolution" algorithm.
