Bilateral circumscribed posterior keratoconus.

BACKGROUND: Posterior keratoconus is a rare corneal disorder characterized by a diffuse or localized protrusion of the posterior corneal surface into a thinning stroma. It is believed to be a congenital, nonprogressive condition. CASE REPORT: A case of bilateral circumscribed posterior keratoconus is presented. Diagnostic ocular signs include localized protrusion of the posterior corneal surface, normal anterior corneal surface, stromal thinning, and endothelial changes. However, anterior corneal contour reveals progressive steepening in this case. CONCLUSION: Posterior keratoconus is an unu

Differences between suspected keratoconus and subclinical keratoconus via multiparameter analysis in Chinese populations.

Keratoconus (KC) is a contraindication for corneal refractive surgery and can cause serious damage to the patient's vision. To improve the safety of the surgery, we aim to distinguish between suspected KC and subclinical KC, while also developing a predictive model for KC. This cross-sectional study investigated 116 eyes with suspected KC (I-S Value > 1.4 D and ≤ 1.9 D) and 28 eyes with subclinical KC. All the Chinese subjects were examined via the Pentacam and Corvis ST (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany). The 90 parameters of the Belin/Ambrósio System, Topometric/KC System, and Corvis ST System were

[Intraindividual Keratoconus Progression].

Introduction Keratoconus is a typically bilateral, progressive-extending corneal disease. The aim of this work is to evaluate the intraindividual progression of keratoconus. Patients and Methods This single-center retrospective study of disease progression based on topographic data from non-operated keratoconus patients (n = 48) was examined over a period of two years. Seven topographical keratoconus indices derived from Scheimpflug tomography were used to compare both the initial findings, as well as the progression of the fellow eyes. Results The mean observation period was 3.3 ± 0.9 years.

Keratoconus: current perspectives.

Keratoconus is characterized by progressive corneal protrusion and thinning, leading to irregular astigmatism and impairment in visual function. The etiology and pathogenesis of the condition are not fully understood. However, significant strides have been made in early clinical detection of the disease, as well as towards providing optimal optical and surgical correction for improving the quality of vision in affected patients. The past two decades, in particular, have seen exciting new developments promising to alter the natural history of keratoconus in a favorable way for the first time. T

Circumscribed posterior keratoconus.

BACKGROUND: Posterior keratoconus is characterized by an internal protrusion of the posterior corneal surface and associated localized or diffuse stromal thinning. Two cases of circumscribed (localized) posterior keratoconus are presented that are representative of the spectrum of the anomaly. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical and histological appearance of posterior keratoconus and its differential diagnosis from other corneal ectasias and developmental anomalies are reviewed to enable the eye care practitioner to better diagnose and manage this rare anterior segment disorder.
