BACKGROUND: Methods such as the number of positive lymph nodes (nPLN), lymph node ratio (LNR), and log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) are used to predict prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We hypothesized that LODDS could be a superior independent predictor of prognosis and aimed to compare its effectiveness with nPLN and LNR in predicting survival outcomes in stage I-IIIA NSCLC patients.
METHODS: We utilized data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) 17 registry (2010-2019) to study NSCLC patients, focusing on those who underwent surger

OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the prognostic impact of lymph node yield (LNY) and lymph node ratio (LNR) on disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) after resection for pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
METHODS: Using a retrospective cohort of 214 patients who had undergone surgical resection between 2000 and 2022), LNY was dichotomized at the median (≤13 vs >13 nodes). The LNR was categorized as 0, 0.01 to 0.20, and greater than 0.20. Survival was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier/log rank and multivariable Cox regression; node-negative category (N0) sensitivity analyses were performed.
RESULTS:

The lymph node ratio (LNR) may emerge as a more reliable prognostic indicator for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study utilized data collected between 2010 and 2019 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) 17 registry research database. The cohort comprised patients diagnosed with stage I-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who had undergone surgical resection and had at least one lymph node examined. Overall survival was predicted using XGBoost, a robust tree-based ensemble algorithm, based on LNR, and prognostic LNR thresholds were determined using SHAP (SHap

BACKGROUND: Pathological examination of lymph node metastasis (LNM) is crucial for treating pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Although the tumour stroma is correlated with prognosis in multiple solid tumors, its role in detecting LNM in PDAC is unclear. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship of tumor-stroma ratio (TSR) with LNM, survival and mutational profile in PDAC.
METHODS: In this multicenter retrospective study, we examined molecular and clinicopathologic features of 737 PDAC patients from 5 independent cohorts, including surgically resected and endoscopic ultraso

A growing number of studies have found that the lymph node ratio (LNR) is an important indicator of prognosis in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Impact analysis for LNR was performed for survival in patients undergoing surgery for stage III NSCLC compared to the surveillance, epidemiology and end results databank. Clinicopathological variables, such as cancer-specific survival (CSS), were taken from the surveillance epidemiology and end result databank of stage III NSCLC patients who underwent surgery, and the LNR threshold stratification of NSCLC patients was computed by X-tile. CSS was a

BACKGROUND: Retrieval of <12 lymph nodes after proctectomy and preoperative chemoradiation (C-XRT) may improve survival in good risk patients. The objective of this study was to determine impact of <12 retrieved lymph nodes and lymph node ratio (LNR) on survival in a population with certain poor prognostic features for rectal cancer.
METHODS: Patients who underwent surgery for rectal adenocarcinoma between 2005 and 2011 were divided them into <12 or >12 lymph node groups. The LNR groups were based on interquartile range. Clinicopathological and treatment outcomes were compared. Expected 5 yea

BACKGROUND: Tumour deposits (TDs) without metastatic lymph nodes are classified as N1c in the 8th edition of the AJCC staging manual. However, the prognostic value of TDs and lymph node ratio (LNR) in stage III colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the prognostic significance of TD count and LNR with the newly developed modified lymph node ratio (mLNR), and to create a prognostic nomogram integrating mLNR for stage III CRC patients.
METHODS: Using the SEER database, a training cohort of 25,689 stage III CRC patients was identified, alongside an external validati

BACKGROUND: In contrast to extranodal extension (ENE), tumor characteristics can often be evaluated preoperatively in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC). If correlations exist between primary tumor characteristics and the presence of ENE, evaluating these factors could help provide more accurate patient counseling and adjuvant treatment planning before undergoing surgical therapy.
PURPOSE: The study's purpose was to identify associations between OCSCC pathologic characteristics and ENE.
STUDY DESIGN, SETTING, SAMPLE: We performed a retrospective cohort study of adult p

INTRODUCTION: The lymph node status is a very important prognostic factor in head-and-neck cancer. The presence of metastatic lymph nodes will reduce the overall survival by 50%. Lymph node ratio (LNR) is defined as the ratio of the number of positive lymph nodes to the total number of lymph nodes dissected. The aim of the study was to investigate the prognostic value of LNR in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Medical records of pathologically confirmed OSCC patients who reported with loco-regional recurrence from January 2017 to January 2022 were analysed. LNR and

OBJECTIVE: Lymph node ratio (LNR) can predict treatment outcome and prognosis in patients with solid tumors. Aim of the present analysis was to confirm the concept of using LNR for assessing outcome in patients with vulvar cancer after surgery with inguinal lymphadenectomy in a large multicenter project.
METHODS: The AGO-CaRE-1 study multicenter database was used for analysis. LNR was defined as ratio of number of positive lymph nodes (LN) to the number of resected. Previously established LNR risk groups were used to stratify patients. LNR was investigated with respect to clinical parameters.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in females. Due to the unremarkable symptoms associated with early ovarian cancer, many patients are already in the advanced stages at first diagnosis. Recent studies have shown that the lymph node ratio (LNR) has a certain value in predicting the prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer. However, preoperative chemotherapy may lead to changes in the LNR, and thus, the predictive value of the LNR in such patients is unclear. Therefore, this study examined the predictive value of the LNR in ovarian cancer patients undergoing

The tumor-stroma ratio (TSR) has previously been found to be a strong prognostic parameter in primary breast cancer tumors. Since the presence of tumor cells in lymph nodes is important for clinical decision making, the influence of TSR in the primary breast tumor combined with the TSR in tumor-positive lymph nodes on prognosis was evaluated. Women with invasive breast cancer without distant metastasis who underwent an axillary lymph node dissection between 1985 and 1994 at the Leiden University Medical Center were retrospectively analyzed. TSR assessment was performed on hematoxylin and eosin
