BACKGROUND: Symptomatic lymphoceles are a frequent complication following kidney transplantation and are commonly managed with percutaneous drainage and sclerotherapy using agents such as povidone-iodine or ethanol. Refractory cases often require laparoscopic peritoneal fenestration. Although these interventions are generally effective, their cytotoxic properties and cumulative effects may predispose to rare but severe delayed complications.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 71-year-old man underwent living-donor kidney transplantation, followed by postoperative wound dehiscence requiring mesh repair and

INTRODUCTION: A pelvic lymphocele is a collection of lymphatic fluid that develops after extensive lymphadenectomies in surgeries such as urological malignancies or renal transplantation. Pelvic lymphoceles may cause complications such as fever, abdominal pain, leg swelling, genital swelling and flank pain. This report summarizes the management of a pelvic lymphocele after open radical retropubic prostatectomy with bilateral lymphadenectomy.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: Herein, we present a case in which a pelvic lymphocele developed seven months post-radical open retropubic prostatectomy and throug

OBJECTIVE: To test the impact of fixing a peritoneal flap of the bladder to the plexus Santorini as final step of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) to reduce the incidence of symptomatic lymphoceles and postoperative complications.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A two-armed prospective randomised, controlled, single-centre trial on 1080 patients with prostate cancer who underwent RARP with bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection was carried out. Patients in the intervention arm received fixation of the peritoneal flap of the bladder to the plexus Santorini at the end of surgery (Michl-techniq

We report on a fetus with tetramelic campomelia, polysplenia, multicystic dysplastic kidneys, and cervical lymphocele. This condition is similar to the autosomal recessive condition described by Cumming et al. [1986: Am J Med Genet 25:783-790] and is different from campomelic syndrome. In addition, our case had anomalies not previously described in this condition, including abnormal lung lobation with bilateral left bronchial morphology, dextrocardia, total anomalous pulmonary venous return, a left superior vena cava, and a right aortic arch. The pancreas was short, with absence of the body an

Pelvic lymphoceles/lymph fistulas are commonly observed after kidney allotransplantation, especially when the kidney is placed in a retroperitoneal position. While the majority are <5 cm in diameter and resolve without intervention, some may continue to enlarge, and cause local or systemic symptoms or graft dysfunction. Among 1662 recipients of both living and deceased donor kidney transplants between January 2003 and July 2014, we found 46 (2.7%) patients with symptomatic lymphoceles requiring intervention. We studied the clinical outcomes and charges for three treatment modalities including

BACKGROUND: Lymphoceles are frequent complications of pelvic lymph node dissection. While small lymphoceles often remain undetected, larger ones can cause complications and require further treatment, e.g. percutaneous tube drainage alone or in combination with sclerotherapy. However, recurrence rates are considerable, and long-lasting drainage may lead to infection, prolonged hospitalization, and as a consequence, increased overall costs. We report the results of a simplified laparoscopic approach to drain lymphoceles after radical prostatectomy plus pelvic lymphadenectomy using methylene blue

OBJECTIVE: Lymphoceles are among the most common postoperative complications of pelvic lymphadenectomy (PL), with a reported incidence of 1% to 50%. Symptoms are pelvic pain, leg edema, gastrointestinal obstruction, obstructive uropathy, and deep vein thrombosis, and severe complications such as sepsis and lymphatic fistula formation. After laparoscopic PL, we tested the prevention of lymphoceles using collagen patch coated with the human coagulation factors (TachoSil, Nycomed International Management GmbH, Zurich, Switzerland) on 55 patients with endometrial cancer stages IB to II who had und

Laparoscopic fenestration of a postrenal transplant lymphocele is associated with a risk of renal hilar vessel and ureteral injury. Consequently, determination of the incision line is difficult. We describe a case of a 73-year-old man with postrenal transplant lymphocele who underwent a laparoscopic fenestration. We report a surgical video containing a new technique of laparoscopic fenestration using a fluorescent ureteral catheter in combination with a flexible ureteroscope. The combination of a fluorescent ureteral catheter and flexible ureteroscope during surgery enabled us to determine the

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the benefits of sclerotherapy with OK-432 for the treatment of postoperative chronic lymphocele.
BACKGROUND: Postoperative chronic lymphocele formation is common and accounts for a high postoperative morbidity. Nonsurgical strategies comprise repetitive percutaneous fluid aspiration or percutaneous sclerotherapy. OK-432 has been used to treat congenital lymphatic malformations with several reports of promising results. We hypothesized that it is more beneficial than repetitive percutaneous fluid aspiration for the treatment of symptomatic lymphocele.

BACKGROUND: Different approaches have been attempted in both prophylaxis and treatment of recurrent inguinal lymphoceles; however, to date none have been consistently effective. We hereby report our preliminary experience with mapping of the lymphatic leakage followed by ligation of these mapped vessels for resolution of a recurrent inguinal lymphocele.
CASE: A 73-year-old woman underwent an anterior modified radical vulvectomy with bilateral inguinofemoral lymph node dissection due to squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. Postoperatively she presented with a recurrent inguinal lymphocele unr

PURPOSE: The role of pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) during radical prostatectomy (RP) remains controversial. PLND morbidity, particulary lymphocele formation, is the main argument against PLND, despite level one evidence demonstrating metastasis reduction with extended PLND. The aim of this study is to identify the precise anatomical sites and mechanisms of lymphocele formation after RP and to propose preventive surgical modifications.
METHODS: In this prospective, single-center study, we included patients who developed symptomatic lymphoceles after RP with extended PLND or salvage PLND

We report the first case of a lymphocele and bloodstream infection caused by S. coagulans post-surgery. Single nucleotide polymorphism-based analyses revealed closely related S. coagulans isolates from the patient and his dog. Using whole genome sequencing, we demonstrated that S. coagulans was transmitted from a dog.

BACKGROUND: Symptomatic lymphoceles (SLCs) after transperitoneal robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) are common. Evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the impact of peritoneal flaps (PFs) on lymphocele (LC) reduction is inconclusive.
OBJECTIVE: To show that addition of PFs leads to a reduction of postoperative SLCs.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: An investigator-initiated, prospective, parallel, double-blinded, adaptive, phase 3 RCT was conducted. Recruitment took place from September 2019 until December 2021; 6-month written sur

AIM: Pelvic lymphocele is a common complication that develops after pelvic lymph node dissection. The incidence of pelvic lymphocele formation has been reported to be 10.5-51% after gynaecological or urological procedures. However, no evidence has been reported thus far with regard to the development of pelvic lymphocele following lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPND) for low rectal cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of and risk factors for lymphocele formation after LPND for low rectal cancer and to examine its clinical management.
METHOD: We retrospectively

PURPOSE: Lateral pelvic node dissection (LPLND) is indicated in the surgical management of clinically significant pelvic lymphadenopathy associated with rectal malignancies. However, procedure-related morbidity, including the incidence and predisposing factors for lymphoceles arising in this setting have not been adequately evaluated.
METHODS: This retrospective single-institution study included 183 patients with nonmetastatic, lateral node-positive rectal cancer undergoing total mesorectal excision with LPLND between June 2014 and May 2023 to determine the incidence and severity of postopera

We assessed whether standardized application of an absorbable polysaccharide hemostatic powder (HaemoCer™) has an effect on lymphocele rate after kidney transplantation. For this nonrandomized prospective trial, we first aimed to know our center-specific lymphocele rate diagnosed by ultrasound imaging. We retrospectively assessed all patient records of the elapsed year resulting in a center-specific rate of 20%, this was consistent with literature. The power analysis showed that 108 patients were required to detect a 50% reduction in lymphocele rate. During the prospective study period, 155 pa

BACKGROUND: Formation of lymphoceles following radical vulvectomy presents a formidable problem that is associated with high degree of morbidity. A variety of approaches have been described in the literature to treat this condition.
CASE: An 82-year-old woman developed massive inguinal lymphoceles following partial vulvectomy and inguinal lymphadenectomy for cancer vulva. The lymphoceles involved wide surface areas extending to both flanks, and accumulation of lymph was very rapid at a rate of 1 l daily. The condition failed to respond to continuous drainage and compression for 6 weeks, but r
