Microsecretory adenocarcinoma (MSAd) is a recently described, low-grade salivary gland malignancy primarily involving intraoral sites, characterized by consistent morphological and immunohistochemical features, as well as the MEF2C::SS18 fusion. This study reported five new MSAd cases and reviewed previously reported MSAd cases affecting the maxillofacial region. Most of the patients in this case series study were male, with the palate being the most affected intraoral location. All cases showed uniform histological features and immunophenotype associated with S100, SOX10, p63, AE1/AE3, and CK

To identify key regulatory mechanisms in the growth and development of the human endometrium, microarray analysis was performed on uncultured human endometrium collected during menstruation (M) and the late-proliferative (LATE-P)-phase of the menstrual cycle, as well as after 24 h incubation in the presence of oestradiol (17beta-E2). We demonstrate the expression of novel gene transcripts in the human endometrium. i.e. mucin-9, novel oestrogen-responsive gene transcripts, i.e. gelsolin and flotillin-1, and genes known to be expressed in human endometrium but not yet shown to be oestrogen respo

Secretory carcinomas (SCs) of the salivary gland have recently been recognized as low-grade, malignant tumors. Before this designation, most SCs were diagnosed as variants of acinic cell carcinomas (AciCCs). SCs harbor the t(12;15)(p13;q25) translocation that generates an oncogenic fusion gene, ETS variant transcription factor 6/Neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase(ETV6::NTRK3). However, detecting fusion genes in a clinical setting is time-consuming and costly. In this study, we examined 31 cases previously diagnosed as AciCC and SC using pathological analyses with detection of fusion genes u

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal tract involvement in breast cancer is rarely encountered clinically. Data about this condition is limited and mostly from case reports.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of rectal metastasis originating from breast cancer, which presents after a long-term latency of initial diagnosis. The patient had a history of diagnosis and treatment of stage II triple-negative breast cancer with mastectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She showed no signs of recurrence up to eleven years, then presented with hematochezia and mild constipation. A rectal lesion

Secretory carcinoma of the skin is an extremely rare adnexal tumor, histopathologically identical to homologous lesions in the salivary glands and breast tissue. Although this tumor was previously reported as indolent, we report a case of secretory carcinoma of the skin with metastases and recurrence. The patient, a 31-year-old women, had a subcutaneous mass in the right axilla. The resected specimen contained a circumscribed mass, with proliferating tumor cells that exhibited prominent nucleoli. They exhibited glandular and papillary growth patterns and there were amphophilic secretions in th

Secretory carcinoma (SC) of the salivary gland was identified in 2010, and it is characterized by a specific ETV6 gene arrangement. The most common primary site for SC is the parotid gland; however, SC around the Stensen's duct is rare. Here we describe a rare case of a SC around the Stensen's duct that was initially misdiagnosed as a salivary duct cyst. A 59-year-old woman presented with a mass in the region of the left parotid papilla. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a well-circumscribed lesion and enhancement with a rim and an inner wall-like part that appeared in the late phase.

Primary pulmonary acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is rare. The clinicopathological features are not identical to that of classic ACC that leads to misdiagnosis. In this article, we summarized the clinicopathological features of 25 such cases, including 6 cases in this series and additional 19 cases in the literature. Pulmonary ACCs showed an overwhelming solid growth pattern. The neoplastic cells had eosinophilic granular and clear cytoplasm in most cases and displayed basophilic cytoplasm in only 4 cases. Intratumoral fibrous septa, mitotic figure, necrosis, and psammoma bodies were observed in s

Secretory carcinoma (SC) of the salivary gland was recently added to the fourth edition of the World Health Organization classification of head and neck tumors. Some salivary tumors, including acinic cell carcinoma, have been reclassified as SC. Most of these tumors are located on the parotid gland with very few cases reported in the minor salivary glands of the buccal mucosa. Herein, we present a case of SC of buccal mucosa, which appeared clinically as a benign lesion in a 54-year-old Japanese female patient. Histopathologically, the tumor cells presented with an eosinophilic cytoplasm with

BACKGROUND/AIM: The primary role of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of salivary gland masses is to determine the underlying process and guide further management. The objective of our study is to provide a comprehensive review of cytologic features and ancillary studies of mammary analog secretory carcinoma (MASC), discuss differential diagnosis and review recent advances in the understanding of its biologic behavior.
CASE: A 23-year-old female underwent ultrasound-guided FNA of a slowly enlarging parotid mass. Smears displayed branching clusters of bland vacuolated polygonal cells in a

Secretory carcinoma (SC) is a newly defined and exceedingly rare pathologic subtype of lung cancer. We present a case of SC that was initially misdiagnosed as stage IIIB (cT2aN3M0) invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma harboring a programmed cell death ligand 1 tumor proportion score of 10% and an ETV6-MET fusion gene. The patient received five cycles of toripalimab and pemetrexed plus carboplatin at a local hospital without treatment-related adverse events. Radiologic evaluations prior to third- and fifth-cycle immunochemotherapy indicated that the best response was stable disease. The patient was

Primary mucinous carcinoma of the skin (PMCS) is a rare malignant neoplasm of sweat gland origin, with an incidence of 0.07 per million. Histologically, it may be difficult to differentiate it from metastatic mucinous carcinomas of the skin. A case of PMCS is reported here in a 59-year-old woman who presented with a lesion on the right lower eyelid. Histological examination revealed features of mucinous adenocarcinoma. The main differential diagnosis was metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma; however, the lack of colorectal and lung markers and the presence of focal in situ components were consis

A 58-year-old female had a mass in the right breast palpable beneath the areola. A mammogram revealed a 1.5-centimeter soft tissue density that was confirmed with a subsequent ultrasound. The patient underwent a core needle biopsy which was initially reported as a moderately differentiated invasive ductal carcinoma. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed negative staining for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2), mammaglobin, and gross cystic disease fluid protein 15 (GCDFP-15). A wide local excision of the mass was performed. The pat

A n 85-year-old woman presented with a mass in the left breast. A3 7mm lobulated mass including enhancement of a cyst of 37mm was detected by sonography. An axillary lymph node had increased to 16 mm. Atypical cells dyed by light green and orange G were identified by fine needle aspiration and cytology. She was diagnosed with left breast cancer(cT2N1M0, Stage II B), histologically suspected to be squamous cell carcinoma. She underwent a left-breast-conserving surgery and axillary lymph node dissection. On pathology, a cyst of 34×30mm was noted. The tumor grew from inside the cyst to the surrou

The immune system is believed to play a dual role in carcinogenesis. On one hand, it could prompt tumorigenesis and cancer progression, on the other hand, it has the capacity to eradicate tumor cells. There has been an evidence of natural immunogenicity in breast cancer and we have also witnessed several attempts to stimulate non-specific antitumor immune response (Coleys toxin, BCG vaccine etc.). New technologies and further knowledge of molecular basis of immune system and its function encouraged the development of effective immunotherapy capable of inducing a solid antitumor activity. These

We describe a case of breast metastasis originating from a small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (SCNEC) of the uterine cervix, an uncommon presentation that can be difficult to distinguish from a primary breast malignancy. We report a 29-year-old woman treated three years earlier for FIGO stage IB2 cervical SCNEC with chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, who presented with a 1.5-cm mass in the left breast. Imaging suggested a primary breast malignancy, but her oncologic history raised concern for metastasis. Core-needle biopsy showed a high-grade small-cell neoplasm expressing synaptophysin

INTRODUCTION: Solitary uterine metastases from extragenital cancers are very rare. Breast cancer is the most frequent primary site of metastasis to the uterine corpus, with invasive lobular carcinoma more likely to spread to gynecologic organs than invasive ductal carcinoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old postmenopausal Japanese woman was diagnosed with uterine leiomyomata more than 20 years ago and had been managed conservatively until menopause. Seven years prior to her presentation, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a partial resection of her right breast for stage IIA i

Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a major malignant salivary gland tumor that usually forms a solid tumor. Non-necrotic macrocystic SDCs have rarely been reported among salivary gland tumors. A 78-year-old Japanese man with a submandibular gland tumor was evaluated radiologically, pathologically, and immunohistochemically. A multilocular lesion with a maximum size of 6 cm was radiologically observed in the left submandibular region. It had been noticed 20 years earlier. Malignant cytological result was obtained, and surgical resection was performed. Pathological examination revealed a non-necro

Sinonasal adenocarcinoma is a rare tumor of the head and neck accounting for 10% to 20% of all primary malignancies of the nose and paranasal sinuses. There tumors are classified as salivary, intestinal and nonintestinal, nonsalivary. Low-grade nonintestinal nonsalivary are rare tumors whose diagnosis is essentially that of exclusion. Here we present the first case of one such tumor associated with an exophyic Schneiderian papilloma. A 71-year-old retired aerospace engineer presented with a 1-year history of severe nasal obstruction. Endoscopy and compted tomography imaging demonstrated a poly
