Indirect immunoperoxidase stainings for hepatitis B core and surface antigens (HBc&s Ag) were applied to formalin-fixed paraffin sections in 113 liver specimens from 56 patients. Many cytomorphologic staining characteristics of HBc&s Ag were illustrated, and the percentages of the cellular population positive for HBc&s Ag were estimated for all specimens in order to provide the basis for general analyses. Murine monoclonal antibodies to human anchoring fibrils reacted with human and monkey cervix, tongue, esophagus, and vagina. Rat, mouse, and guinea pig tissues were negative. In 11 patients with dystrophic recessive epidermolysis bullosa there was no reaction by immunofluorescence and immunoelectron microscopy. Other forms of epidermolysis bullosa had normal reactivity.

BACKGROUND: In 1979, Provost described two patients with the clinical features of disseminated cicatricial pemphigoid for the first time. Until now, only four additional cases of disseminated cicatricial pemphigoid have been described. Primary localized amyloidosis of the bladder and urethra is a rare condition. Two cases of isolated primary amyloidosis, of the urethra in a man and of the bladder in a woman, are reported. The clinical specificity of the location and the specific therapy are discussed. We draw attention to the extended, palette of diagnostic investigations now available and the new classification made possible by the introduction of immunohistochemistry and immunoelectron microscopy.

Subcellular localization of immunoglobulin (Ig) by immunoelectron microscopy was performed on 20 B-cell lymphomas of low- and high-grade malignancy. The efficiency in demonstrating Ig by pre-embedding technique depends on the antibodies used. F(ab')2 fragments of antibodies were more sensitive than both intact polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies in detecting cytoplasmic Ig. We report the first documented example (case 1) of lymphocytic adenohypophysitis (LAH) associated with selective destruction of prolactin cells. The morphologic data are compared to those obtained in another, more typical case (case 2). We describe a patient with a papulovesicular eruption associated with scarring and severe mucosal lesions that led to blindness.
