FloSeal hemostatic matrix use for intraventricular hemorrhage during a neuroendoscopic procedure.

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendoscopy is a rapidly growing field, but the risk of intraventricular hemorrhage is signficant. There are few novel ways of obtaining hemostasis for major hemorrhage described in the literature. PATIENT: A 5-year-old boy with a history of intraventricular hemorrhage and multi-cystic hydrocephalus presented with worsening brainstem compression from dilation of a 4 (th) ventricle cyst. RESULTS: During endoscopic surgery to fenestrate the cyst, arterial hemorrhage was emergently controlled with the hemostatic agent, FloSeal. CONCLUSION: To the best of the authors' knowledge

Neuroendoscopic treatment of arachnoid cysts of the quadrigeminal cistern: a series of 14 cases.

OBJECT: In this paper, the authors' goal was to evaluate the role of neuroendoscopy in the treatment of arachnoid cysts of the quadrigeminal cistern. METHODS: Between March 1995 and February 2008, 14 patients affected by arachnoid cysts of the quadrigeminal cistern were treated endoscopically. The cysts were classified according to their anatomical and radiological appearance. The most frequent form (Type I) extended infratentorially and supratentorially with a dumbbell shape. Type II cysts were confined to the infratentorial space and were associated with the most severe and acute form of hy

[Intratumoral hemorrhage in choriocarcinoma during neuroendoscopic third ventriculostomy: case report].

The authors report a case of intratumoral hemorrhage in a pineal region choriocarcinoma during neuroendoscopic third ventriculostomy. A 12-year-old boy who presented with headache and vomiting had precocious puberty. Neuroimagings revealed a pineal region tumor with obstructive hydrocephalus and his serum HCG level was 4,280 mIU/ml. He was diagnosed as having choriocarcinoma and underwent neuroendoscopic third ventriculostomy for obstructive hydrocephalus. There were many tumor vessels observed on the tumor surface, some of which bled subcapsularly. Postoperative CT scan showed the tumor incre

[Neuroendoscopic endonasal transseptal approach to the sellar region: study of 30 cases].

An endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach to the sella was performed in 30 patients. The use of endoscope allowed close inspection and differentiation between tumor tissue and glandular remains, resulting in micro dissection of the tumor with maximum preservation of pituitary function. The angled view of the endoscope helps gross total removal of the tumor tissue, from the supra and para sellar extension. The endonasal transseptal endoscopic approach helps from dental problems, and lowers incidence of septal perforation, synechia, and crust formation. However the endoscopic approach has

Neuroendoscopic Anterior Prelacrimal Recess Approach for Resection of Tumors in the Infratemporal Fossa.

BACKGROUND: The infratemporal fossa, nestled deep within a complex network of vital nerves and blood vessels, presents a formidable challenge to neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists, and maxillofacial surgeons alike. IMPORTANCE: Surgery is the main treatment method for lesions in the infratemporal fossa area. While traditional surgery is fraught with significant trauma, complexity, and a high rate of complications, the neuroendoscopic anterior prelacrimal recess technique offers a less invasive alternative, minimizing damage to the nasal cavity's architecture. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: Two patients

Neuroendoscopic Surgery for Intraventricular Cavernous Malformations: A Review on Indications and Surgical Considerations.

BACKGROUND: Intraventricular cavernous malformations (IVCs) are rare vascular lesions of the central nervous system. Surgical resection remains a challenging endeavor, with conventional microsurgical techniques associated with morbidity due to direct brain tissue manipulation. Neuroendoscopic approaches offer a minimally invasive alternative, though their efficacy and safety in treating IVCs remain underexplored. METHODS: A narrative review was conducted to analyze all documented cases of IVCs treated exclusively with endoscopic transventricular approaches. Reviews, original research papers,

Resection of brain lesions with a neuroendoscopic ultrasonic aspirator - a systematic literature review.

The development of minimally invasive neuroendoscopy has advanced in recent years. The introduction of the neuroendoscopic ultrasonic aspirator (NUA) increased the treatment spectrum of neuroendoscopy. This review aimed to present a systematic overview of the extent of resection, lesion characteristics, technical aspects, complications, and clinical outcomes related to using the NUA. Articles were identified by searching the PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Web of Science database through June 2022 with restriction to the last 20 years. We included case series, case reports, clinical trials, contro

Neuroendoscopic lavage for the management of neonatal post-haemorrhagic hydrocephalus: a retrospective series.

INTRODUCTION: Intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) is a common complication of preterm birth, and optimal treatment remains uncertain. Neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) has gained interest as a method for removal of intraventricular haematoma, with outcomes suggesting it to be safe and potentially effective. METHODS: A retrospective review was carried identifying infants who underwent NEL for post-IVH hydrocephalus at our institution. Data was extracted on patient baseline demographics, comorbidities, complications, re-operation requirement, and neurodevelopmental outcomes. RESULTS: Twenty-six pati

Transpalpebral transorbital neuroendoscopic (TONES) repair of orbital meningoencephalocele: a technical note.

PURPOSE: Intraorbital encephalocele (OMEC) is a rare entity in adults, usually secondary to an orbital pathology or prior trauma, in particular orbital roof fractures. Treatment of the OMEC is warranted to alleviate the pulsating exophthalmos and prevent potential visual decline. OMEC and orbital roof fractures have been predominantly treated via a craniotomy with a reconstruction of the orbital roof using various implants. With the advances in the endoscopic techniques, neuroendoscopy found its application in the treatment of orbital pathologies. We report a minimally invasive alternative: en

Developmental Retrocerebellar Cysts: A New Classification for Neuroendoscopic Management and Systematic Review.

OBJECTIVE: Posterior fossa cystic malformations are diversely classified with considerable overlap without therapeutic relevance. These cysts posterior to the cerebellum, presenting in children younger than 5 years, are labeled developmental retrocerebellar cysts (DRCCs) under a new classification in relation to neuroendoscopy. METHODS: DRCC was categorized as type 0 for asymptomatic enlarged cistern magna and was not treated. Among symptomatic cases, cysts with a compressed fourth ventricle were labeled type 1, whereas cysts in continuity with the fourth ventricle were termed type 2. They we

Limitations of Neuroendoscopic Treatment for Pediatric Hydrocephalus and Considerations from Future Perspectives.

Neuroendoscopy has become common in the field of pediatric neurosurgery. As an alternative procedure to cerebrospinal fluid shunt, endoscopic third ventriculostomy has been the routine surgical treatment for obstructive hydrocephalus. However, the indication is still debatable in infantile periods. The predictors of late failure and how to manage are still unknown. Recently, the remarkable results of endoscopic choroid plexus coagulation in combination with third ventriculostomy, reported from experiences in Africa, present puzzling complexity. The current data on the role of neuroendoscopic s
