Plant-derived modulators of the hemostasis-wound healing axis: mechanisms, evidence, and translational potential.

Medicinal plants are widely used to control bleeding and support wound care, but the hemostatic and reparative evidence attributed to a species often derives from different plant parts, extracts, or formulations. This critical narrative review examines the ethnomedicinal, experimental, clinical, safety, and translational evidence for plant-derived preparations reported to modulate one or more stages of the hemostasis-wound-healing axis. Structured searches of PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science were updated through 19 July 2026 using terms related to medicinal plants, coagulation, plate

Young Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Preparations: From Phytochemical Complexity to Clinical Relevance.

Young barley, derived from the early vegetative stage of Hordeum vulgare L., constitutes a plant-based functional ingredient whose phytochemical profile differs markedly from that of mature grain. Two principal commercial forms exist-dried grass powder and juice-derived products-differing in matrix composition and bioactive compound concentration. This narrative review critically evaluates the current knowledge on the phytochemical composition, biological activity, and translational relevance of young barley preparations considered as a functional plant food. The phytochemical spectrum is domi

Plant Exosome Injection with or without Low Level Laser Therapy Promotes Skin Wound Healing: An Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: Plant derived extracellular vesicle preparations and low level laser therapy (LLLT) each show regenerative effects in cutaneous wound healing. Their combined application may enhance early dermal repair following laser-induced skin injury. This study compares 3 commercially available plant derived extracellular vesicle formulations; Exoline, Glow, and Elysee, administered alone or with LLLT, in a rabbit ear wound model. Characterization of these preparations, including particle content and composition, was limited, and dosing was volume based. METHODS: Two hundred forty adult male

Ethnopharmacologic survey of medicinal plants used to treat human diseases by traditional medical practitioners in Dega Damot district, Amhara, Northwestern Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: One of the services that plants provide for human beings is their wider medicinal application. Although it is not fully assessed, the practice and wider use of traditional medicine is frequent in Ethiopia. Studies conducted previously are confined to the perceptions of modern and traditional health practitioners about traditional medicine. A total of 45 informants were selected purposefully from the study area. For collecting the data, semi-structured interviewees, observation and field walks were employed from August 10 to September 30/2014. To summarize the information, descripti

Reappraisal of the 'lectin hypothesis' in the aetiopathogenesis of coeliac disease.

The agglutinating properties of a crude gluten digest, purified gliadin fractions and established plant lectins were investigated using mammalian erythrocytes, rat enterocytes and normal and coeliac human enterocytes as the target systems. Gliadin preparations failed to cause agglutination of any of the cells tested, whereas established pure plant lectins were active cell agglutinins. These studies indicate that gliadin peptides do not interact with intestinal cells in a polyvalent, lectin-like manner and as such cannot be regarded as true lectins. Mucosal damage in coeliac disease is unlikely

Extracellular vesicles released by in vitro plant cell cultures: emerging systems for vesicle-mediated communication and biomedical translation.

This article summarizes how extracellular vesicles are emerging as important means through which cells communicate with each other in plants and their potential medical applications. Extracellular vesicles are emerging as important mediators of intercellular communication in plants, with roles in defense responses, stress adaptation, and cross-kingdom molecular signaling. Although plant-derived extracellular vesicles have attracted increasing interest, most studies have focused on vesicles isolated from whole tissues or edible plant materials, whereas extracellular vesicles released by in vitr

Plant sample integrity is important for efficient photosystem II repair and thylakoid remodelling in Arabidopsis.

The thylakoid is a dynamic membrane that houses the protein complexes involved in the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis. Although light provides the energy that drives these reactions, it also damages the photosynthetic apparatus, particularly photosystem II. This damage can be repaired via the photosystem II repair cycle, a process thought to be accompanied by structural rearrangements of the thylakoid membrane. When the light-induced damage exceeds the capacity for repair, photoinhibition occurs, resulting in a decline in photosynthetic capacity. While photoinhibition has been exte

Naturally occurring plant polyphenols as potential therapies for inherited neuromuscular diseases.

There are several lines of laboratory-based evidence emerging to suggest that purified polyphenol compounds such as resveratrol, found naturally in red grapes, epigallocatechin galate from green tea and curcumin from turmeric, might be useful for the treatment of various inherited neuromuscular diseases, including spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Here, we critically examine the scientific evidence related to the known molecular effects that these polyphenols have on different models of inherited neuromuscular disease, with particular attenti

In vitro and in vivo assessment of sporopollenin exine capsule preparations (SpECs) from Lycopodium clavatum spores.

This study investigated the potential allergenicity of sporopollenin exine capsule preparations (SpECs) derived from plant pollen or spores as allergenicity could limit their use as a therapeutic oral drug delivery system. As allergenicity may differ depending on the method of preparation, raw spores from Lycopodium clavatum, together with 6 L. clavatum SpEC preparations were evaluated in vitro by adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioassay for cell viability. Subsequently, in vivo evaluations were performed in 6-8 week male Balb/C mice gavaged daily with raw L. clavatum spores, a negative control (
