This is one of the few studies that explores preferences of and experiences with integrated sexual and reproductive health (SRH)-HIV care among users of mainstream family planning and postnatal care services who are women living with HIV (WLWH). This paper reports on the quantitative data from 179 clients attending public sector clinics and from 30 qualitative in-depth interviews with WLHIV in Kenya. Quantitative data show that integration is happening for the vast majority of these clients at their last HIV visit. However, qualitative data show that very often the care received by WLWH is fra

BACKGROUND: Nigeria, like many other countries, has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. While efforts have been devoted to curtailing the disease, a major concern has been its potential effects on the delivery and utilization of reproductive health care services in the country. The objective of the study was to investigate the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdowns had affected the provision of essential reproductive, maternal, child, and adolescent health (RMCAH) services in primary health care facilities across the Nigerian States.
METHODS: This was a cross

BACKGROUND: To support the policy drive for the promotion of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of adolescents and young people (AYP), it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the existing SRH services available to them.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the provision and experiences of care in SRH services for AYP in a Nigerian setting.
METHODS: Twelve male and female mystery clients (MCs) conducted 144 visits at 27 selected primary and secondary health facilities in two Local Government Areas (LGA) in Ogun State, Nigeria. A 27-item adolescent quality of care (AHQOC) index with a Cronbach'

Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in South Africa bear a disproportionate burden of the global HIV epidemic. Integrating PrEP into sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services offers a promising strategy to enhance HIV prevention by aligning services with South African AGYW's existing health-seeking behaviors. We performed a scoping review to explore considerations for integrating PrEP into SRH services for AGYW in South Africa. The review involved a comprehensive search in PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL to identify peer-reviewed studies published between 2014 and 2024. Eligible studies rep

BACKGROUND: Chile has become a destination country for immigrants from Latin America, including youth. Guaranteeing access and use of sexual and reproductive health services for young migrants is crucial because of their overlapping experiences of transitioning to a new country and to adulthood. However, the existing evidence shows barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive healthcare among young migrant populations. In this context, the main objective of this article is to identify the barriers and facilitators that young migrants experience to access sexual and reproductive healthcare in

(1) Background: There is growing concern in South Africa about risky sexual behaviour, sexual transmitted infections (STIs), and unplanned pregnancy among young people. Many sexually active students engage in several risky behaviours, including sex with multiple sexual partners, low condom use, and low contraceptive use. This paper qualitatively explores factors influencing non-use of sexual reproductive health services by students at Mangosuthu University of Technology in South Africa (MUT). (2) Methods: Data was collected through 20 in-depth interviews with MUT students and subjected to indu

BACKGROUND: In most developing countries, meeting young people's sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs remains a problem. Despite policy initiatives and strategic measures aimed at increasing youth utilization of sexual and reproductive health services in Ethiopia, its utilization remains very low. Therefore, this study aimed to assess Ethiopia's youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services' utilisation and determinants.
METHODS: Scopus, Medline, Google Scholar, and CINAHL databases were searched for articles published until March 2021. The pooled prevalence and effect size of

Since August 2015, a large range of sexual health and reproductive health services have been provided in more than 120 pharmacies across Birmingham (England). Our study aimed to explore how pharmacy staff and pharmacy users experience delivering or being provided with sexual health and reproductive health services. Between March and September 2019, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 pharmacy staff delivering sexual and reproductive health services and 15 people who had used a sexual and reproductive health service at the pharmacy. Interviews were analysed thematically. Pharmacy

BACKGROUND: Evaluating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal of universal access to sexual and reproductive (SRH) services requires an understanding of the health needs of individuals and what constitutes access to services. We explored women's costs of accessing SRH services in Johannesburg, South Africa and contextualized costs based on estimates of household income.
METHODS: We conducted an observational study of women aged 18-49 at a public HIV treatment site and two public primary health care facilities from June 2015 to August 2016. Interviews assessed women's SRH needs (for

PURPOSE: Adolescents' concerns about confidential service receipt have been linked to avoidance of sexual and reproductive healthcare. Healthcare system changes allowing young adults to remain on a parent's health insurance plan up to age 26 may have extended these concerns to young adults. This study examines: (1) The association between the relationship of young women to primary health plan policy holder (parent or self) on receipt of reproductive health services and chlamydia screening. (2)Changes, over time, in the proportion of young women who are parentally- versus self-insured.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of cervical cancer (CC) has been rising in sub-Saharan Africa, and health authorities in this region have responded by increasing the availability of cheap or no-cost CC screening services (CCSS), public health education, and others. However, the efforts have not yet resulted into the expected uptake of CCSS.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the determinants of uptake of CCSS at a no-cost reproductive health clinic managed by nurse-midwives.
METHODS: A descriptive design and a structured interview questionnaire were used to collect data from 236 women

BACKGROUND: Researchers have widely documented the pervasiveness of HIV stigma and discrimination, and its impact on people living with HIV. Only a few studies, however, have analysed the perceptions of women living with HIV accessing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. This study explores the experiences of stigma of HIV-positive clients attending family planning and post-natal services and implications for service use and antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. Our aim was to gain a better understanding of the impact of various dimensions of stigma on service use and ART adherence

OBJECTIVE: To assess the acceptance and outcome of voluntary HIV counselling and testing (VCT) among women who had an unsafe abortion.
METHOD: 706 women were provided with post-abortion contraceptive service and offered VCT. We collected data on socioeconomic characteristics and contraceptive use and determined the HIV status of those who accepted VCT. Using a nested case-control design, we compared women who accepted HIV testing with women who did not. To study the association between socioeconomic factors, HIV testing acceptance and condom use in more detail, we did stratified analyses base

Focus group discussions on barriers to health care and attitudes toward family planning, reproductive health services, and condom use were conducted with 63 women at high risk for HIV due to their own injection drug use, sex with injection drug users, sex industry work, or a history of multiple sexually transmitted diseases. Barriers identified include the high cost of health care, perceived poor quality of care and experiences of discrimination and stigmatization, geographic accessibility, fear of legal/social services punitive actions, misperceptions about the efficacy of birth control metho

OBJECTIVE: Specialized reproductive mental health services help to alleviate symptoms of mental disorders associated with the reproductive system such as menstrual cycle, infertility, pregnancy or birth. However, people by reproductive mental disorders often do not receive the treatment they need or treatment is initiated after a long delay. The current study examined the process of accessing specialized reproductive mental health services in patients (mostly cisgender women) who just attended their first psychotherapy session in these services. Specifically, we examined the role of self-stigm

INTRODUCTION: Discontinuation of infertility care without achieving a still-desired pregnancy represents a potential failure to meet patient needs and indicates healthcare system inefficiencies. While specific reasons for premature treatment cessation are documented in various populations, no study has extensively examined its prevalence or drivers within the Military Health System (MHS). This study identifies predictors and reasons for early discontinuation among active-duty servicewomen (ADSW), whose unique sociodemographic circumstances influence how and where fertility care is accessed and

BACKGROUND: Young women have high HIV incidence and risk for unintended births in sub-Saharan Africa. Hair salons may be useful settings for HIV prevention and family planning. We assessed PrEP and contraceptive persistence in South African hair salons.
METHODS: We conducted a pilot randomized trial to evaluate uptake and persistence of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and contraception in 3 salons in KwaZulu-Natal. Women could start or stop medication at any visit. We defined persistence as 1 additional visit within 6 months with continued use. We assessed age, self-perceived HIV risk, partne

PURPOSE: Despite increased prevalence of sexual and reproductive health problems among people with severe mental illness (SMI), uptake of sexual and reproductive healthcare in this group is poor. The reasons for this are unclear. Therefore, this review aimed to identify the barriers and facilitators to accessing sexual and reproductive health services from a service user perspective.
METHODS: Three electronic databases were searched using key words for "sexual health" and "SMI". Data were screened and extracted by two independent reviewers. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tools

INTRODUCTION: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) in Ethiopia face significant sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges, yet service utilisation remains low, partly because current services could better align with their preferences. This study assessed AYAs' preferences for SRH services.
METHODS: We conducted three distinct but interrelated discrete choice experiments (DCEs) on contraceptive services, abortion care, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) services between February and April 2024 in Ethiopia. A D-efficient design with two blocks of 24 choice tasks was used. A mixed log

BACKGROUND: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) literacy allows young adults to make informed decisions about health outcomes. In Peru, roughly one fifth of the population lives in rural areas, and little is known about where young adults in rural areas get their SRH information. The aim of this study was to identify what motivates and influences young adults to seek information and care related to SRH in three rural communities in the highlands of Northern Peru.
METHODS: Five gender-stratified focus group discussions with a total of 24 participants, and nine follow-up interviews were conduc
