The surgical procedures for and outcomes of soft tissue constraint reconstruction in complex elbow instability have been rarely investigated. The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical outcomes in a series of patients with complex elbow instability in whom the associated soft tissue constraint injures were identified and treated based on the pathoanatomic changes found intraoperatively. Forty-five patients (23 men and 22 women; mean age, 54 years) with complex elbow instability were followed prospectively. Surgical treatment included the anatomic reduction and internal fixation of a

Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) represent one of the main oral health problems in children, with variable prevalence rates. The issue of unmet treatment needs and inadequate emergency management of TDIs have surfaced up lately in dental literature, indicating that some TDIs present late for treatment, which may complicate management of these injuries. Soft tissue injuries usually accompany other dental injuries therefore thorough clinical and radiographic inspection of soft tissue wounds can not be over emphasized, even in late presentation cases. Tooth fragments may be embedded in soft tissu

BACKGROUND: Female patients are more likely than male patients to experience various musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries. Because MSK tissues are sensitive to the female hormones relaxin, estrogen, and progesterone, studies have examined whether hormonal contraceptives, which change female hormone levels, can alter the female MSK injury risk. These studies have reached contradictory conclusions, leaving unclear the influence of hormonal contraception on female MSK injury risk.
HYPOTHESIS: Hormonal contraceptives act to decrease female soft tissue injury risk and soft tissue laxity.
STUDY DESIGN:

AIMS: Flexion varus tibial plateau fracture (FVTPF) is associated with a substantial reoperation rate and poor outcomes. This study aims to clarify its fracture characteristics, investigate concomitant ligament and meniscus injuries, and explore correlations between fracture morphology and soft-tissue involvement.
METHODS: FVTPF patients with available CT and MRI data were included. Fracture mapping was used to present the fracture line and depression area in a spatial manner. Fracture morphological parameters were measured on CT, and ligament and meniscus injuries were assessed on MRI. Assoc

INTRODUCTION: Soft tissue injuries comprise the majority of pediatric facial traumas, yet large-scale epidemiologic studies remain scarce. We present the first national-level analysis of pediatric facial soft tissue injuries in the United States.
METHODS: A retrospective study of the ACS TQIP (American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Project) database from 2017 to 2022 examined 123,558 patients aged 0 to 18 years with facial soft tissue injuries. Patterns before and during COVID-19 were assessed using multivariable regression models.
RESULTS: The most prevalent injuries were l

Facial soft tissue injury is a challenging and complex problem for the facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon for cosmetic and functional reasons. This article will focus on the management of soft tissue injuries of the cheek, one of the most important presenting areas of the face. The cheek, like any other part of the face, is susceptible to several types of injury and any of these injuries have the potential to disfigure and debilitate. Knowledge of anatomical structures and wound healing principles is critical to devising an appropriate management plan and achieving superior patient outc

Studies have reported the association of the COL1A1 Sp1 binding site variant (rs1800012) with the risk of acute musculoskeletal soft tissue injuries. Interaction with the COL1A1 promoter variant (rs1107946) has also been proposed to modulate acute injury risk. Conversely, neither of these loci have been associated with chronic musculoskeletal soft tissue phenotypes. Therefore, the primary aim of this study involved characterizing these variants in a cohort of participants with chronic Achilles tendinopathy. Second, this study aimed to support the contribution of the rs1107946 and rs1800012 var

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the immediate analgesic effect of sinew acupuncture for patients with soft-tissue injuries (STIs).
METHODS: Two hundreds eligible adult patients suffering from STIs were recruited and received sinew acupuncture with flexible treatment schedules. The number of treatment sessions was pragmatically decided by each patient on the basis of their pain relief. The outcome measurement was the change of pain rating in the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) during the first 5 sessions. The adverse effect was also observed.
RESULTS: Of the 200 patients recruited, 7 were excluded due

BACKGROUND: The pattern of craniofacial soft-tissue injuries occurring either in isolation or in association with fractures vary in different societies and is multiply influenced. The effects are enormous because of the prominence of the face; therefore, the purpose of this study was to document any changing pattern, severity and management of these craniofacial injuries in our center.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: Cranio-maxillofacial region was classified into upper, middle and lower face. The cause, type, and site of the injuries were documented. Gunshot injuries were further categorized as penetra

We evaluated the soft tissue of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after intracapsular condylar fracture. Eighteen consecutive patients (19 TMJ) were diagnosed between 1 January 2010 and 30 October 2011. They were examined using bilateral sagittal and coronal MRI, which were obtained immediately after injury to assess the displacement of the disc, whether there was a tear in capsule or the retrodiscal tissue, and whether there was an effusion in the joint. On the affected side MRI showed disc displacement in 15 of 19, tears in the capsule in 9, and tears in

Informal surveys at CME meetings have shown that approximately one-third of patients in the United States receive hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) for delayed radiation injury. More than 600,000 patients receive radiation for malignancy in our country annually, and about one-half will be long-term survivors. Serious radiation complications occur in 5-10% of survivors. A large population of patients is therefore at risk for radiation injury. HBO2 has been applied to treat patients with radiation injury since the mid-1970s. Published results are consistently positive, but the level of evidence for indiv

We retrospectively reviewed the surgical treatment for 16 cases of traumatic soft tissue injury to the metacarpophalangeal joint (Boxer's knuckle). A history of trauma was present in all cases and there was an associated extensor tendon dislocation in seven cases. Eight cases were initially treated conservatively, but their symptoms persisted. Intraoperative findings included rupture of the extensor hood or joint capsule in all cases. Surgical closure of the rupture of the joint capsule resulted in a successful outcome in all cases. We consider that conservative treatment of this injury may no

OBJECTIVE: Deep cavity pressure injuries (PIs) are commonly managed with wound fillers, the biomechanical role of which remains poorly understood. This study aimed to assess how the mechanical properties of filler influence periwound soft tissue strains.
METHOD: The study combined hydrated mechanical testing of commercial cavity fillers with finite element modelling of sacral stage 3 PIs to assess how filler-related parameters affected periwound soft tissue shear strains.
RESULTS: Sensitivity analysis showed that filling ratio was the dominant factor governing the volume of mechanically pres

Massive soft tissue reconstruction in the face and neck poses many surgical challenges due to the importance of both function and esthetics. Different mechanisms of injury can alter physician focus when it comes to initial diagnostics, stabilization, need for surgical exploration, and nuances in reconstruction. This article discusses a multitude of reconstruction concepts such as facial subunits, a structural approach, inside-out approach, facial volume and motor rehabilitation, and the need for multiple stages and revisions for best outcomes. In addition, advanced reconstructive techniques ar
