Troponin I as a particular and major biomarker of cardiac failure is released to blood demonstrating hurt of myocardial cells. Unfortunately, troponin I detection in the first hours of acute myocardial infarction usually faces with most negligence. Therefore, developments of point of care devices such as lateral flow strips are highly required for timely diagnosis and prognosis. Lateral flow assays are low-cost paper-based detection platforms relying on specific diagnostic agents such as aptamers and antibodies for a rapid, selective, quantitative and semi-quantitative detection of the analyte

OBJECTIVES: Cardiac manifestations in systemic sclerosis (SSc) are associated with poor prognosis. Few studies have investigated cardiac troponins in SSc. We studied the relationships between echocardiographic abnormalities, cardiac biomarkers, and disease manifestations in a population-based cohort of patients with SSc and controls.
METHOD: The study comprised 110 patients with SSc and 105 age- and sex-matched population-based controls. We examined ventricular function, heart valves, and estimated pulmonary arterial pressure (ePAP) by echocardiography in all participants. Disease characteris

Serum cardiac troponins have been demonstrated to have important clinical implications in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC). However, little is known about their roles in patients with obstructive HC. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical significance and determinants of serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in patients with obstructive HC using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. We investigated the relations between serum cTnI levels and clinical, echocardiographic, and cardiovascular magnetic resonance parameters and assessed the determinants of serum cTnI in 149 c

Cardiac troponins are the most sensitive and specific serum markers of myocardial cell injury, but they can also arise without apparent cardiac injury. Besides, acute cholecystitis may be associated with nonspecific ST-T wave changes in electrocardiography (ECG). The signs and symptoms of gallbladder and heart disease may overlap, which can make diagnosis difficult. We describe the case of a 75-year-old woman with clinical features suggestive of acute cholecystitis associated with transient ST segment elevation and elevated troponin I that, after extensive workup, did not seem to be attributab

Troponin I (TnI), an inhibitory protein complex located on the actin filament of cardiac muscle, has become a specific marker of myocardial damage. Troponin has been studied in a wide range of clinical settings. However, many questions are still unanswered, especially in preterm neonates with the most common pathology at birth, such as idiopathic respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS). The aim of this study was to establish a reference range for cardiac TnI for healthy preterm infants and serum levels in sick preterm infants with IRDS. Echocardiography was performed and TnI serum levels were mea

BACKGROUND: Patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) are at risk of cardiac and pulmonary complications. Troponin I (cTnI), a reliable marker of myocardial injury, is frequently raised after SAH.
AIMS: To investigate the additional value of (cTnI) in predicting cardiac or pulmonary complications and outcome in patients with SAH.
METHODS: Admission cTnI was measured in a prospective series of patients admitted within 24 hours of SAH. By means of univariate and multivariate logistic regression models the additional prognostic value of raised cTnI (>0.3 microg/litre) was investig

Although measurement of troponin is widely used for diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (AMI), its diagnostic potential may be increased by a more complete characterization of its molecular appearance and degradation in the blood. The aim of this study was to define the time course of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) degradation in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). In the ASSENT-2 substudy, 26 males hospitalized with STEMI were randomized to 2 different thrombolytic drugs within 6 hours after onset of symptoms. Blood samples were obtained just before initiation of thr

INTRODUCTION: A modified Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (modGRACE) model incorporating continuous rather than binary high-sensitivity troponin T data supersedes the performance of the original GRACE score. However, whether a similar prognostic gain can be achieved using contemporary-sensitive (cTnI) or high-sensitivity troponin I (hs-TnI) remains uncertain.
METHODS: We analyzed data from 2 independent ACS cohorts of consecutively recruited patients: the Freeman cohort (Newcastle, United Kingdom; n = 2,991) and the Greek Study of ACS (GREECS; Greece; n = 1,630). Risk stratification u

African rhinoceros undergo chemical immobilization and prolonged transport during translocations for conservation purposes and, hence, experience several pathophysiologic changes, including skeletal muscle injury. Potential concurrent myocardial injury has not been investigated due to a lack of validated immunoassays. We aimed to use inferred cardiac troponin I (cTnI) amino acid sequences of southern white (Ceratotherium simum simum) and southern-central black (Diceros bicornis minor) rhinoceros to assess the potential usefulness of several commercial cTnI immunoassays for detecting cTnI in Af

The diagnostic value and optimal cutoff level of cardiac troponin I in patients with sepsis have not been studied. In this single hospital retrospective study, we assessed the optimal cutoff value of troponin I for diagnosing non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) with type 1 myocardial infarction (MI) in patients with sepsis who had undergone a percutaneous coronary intervention from 2009 to 2019. In total, 5,341 patients (excluding patients with chronic kidney disease) were included, of whom 277 had sepsis or septic shock. Of the 123 patients with non-ST-segment elevation ac

Malfunction of myocardial mitochondria plays a crucial role in the development of cardiovascular disorders, especially hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies. Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) is an important structural protein and essential to contraction and relaxation of cardiomyocytes. Recent studies suggest that mutated cTnIR193H could function as a regulatory molecule for other cell functions. This study was to determine whether mutated cTnI could contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction of cardiomyocytes. Primary cardiomyocytes were transfected with cTnIR193H adenovirus with empty vector as c

Checkpoint inhibitor-associated myocarditis (ir-myocarditis) and myositis (ir-myositis) may occur concurrently among patients on checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy. While cardiac-specific troponin I (cTnI) and troponin T (cTnT) are regarded to have similar sensitivities and specificities in conditions such as acute coronary syndrome, the cardiac specificity of cTnT has been challenged following observation that patients with neuromuscular diseases, including myositis, may have elevated cTnT without apparent clinical evidence of myocardial injury. Consequently, in the context of concurrent ir-m

1. Cardiac troponin I-interacting kinase (TNNI3K) is a novel cardiac-specific kinase gene. Quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis showed a significant increase in TNNI3K mRNA expression in hypertrophic cardiomyocytes induced by endothelin-1 (ET-1). The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of TNNI3K on neonate rat cardiomyocyte hypertrophy induced by ET-1. 2. Adenoviruses were amplified in 293A cells. To determine a reasonable adenovirus infection dose cardiomyocytes were infected with an adenovirus carrying human TNNI3K (Ad-TNNI3K) at

BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a frequent manifestation in Fabry disease (FD) - an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by reduced activity of the enzyme α-galactosidase A. In FD an elevation of specific cardiac biomarkers, such as cardiac troponin I (cTNI) has been reported in case of clinical manifestation suggestive of myocardial ischemia. In diagnosing acute myocardial infarction cTNI is considered the most reliable parameter.
CASE PRESENTATION: In the referred case we present a 59 years old female patient with the diagnosis of FD presenting with persistently increased c

The assessment of risk and appropriate treatment of patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) remains a challenge. The prognostic performance of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in predicting 30-day all-cause mortality was prospectively assessed in consecutive haemodynamically stable patients with PE. The present study included 318 haemodynamically stable patients with PE. During the 30-day study period, 23 (7%) patients died. cTnI was elevated (>or=0.1 ng x mL(-1)) in 102 (32%) patients. An age >65 yrs, systolic blood pressure <120 mmHg and severity of illness assessed using the PE severity index

BACKGROUND: Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) are standard indexes for cardiac function. However, they can not reveal myocardial damage directly and they often remain normal even in advanced cardiomyopathy in immobilized patients. Myocardial markers such as MB type of creatine kinase (CK-MB), heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) and cardiac troponins are expected to evaluate active myocardial degeneration. However, their availabilities in these patients have not been examined yet.
METHODS: Participants were 129 patients with dystrophinopat
