PURPOSE: Female athletes have a higher risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which has been associated with neuromuscular deficits and dynamic valgus, while contralateral risk profiles after ACL reconstruction remain insufficiently characterized. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether female patients after ACL reconstruction exhibit greater contralateral valgus angles compared with male patients, indicating a higher risk profile for secondary ACL injury. It was hypothesized that dynamic valgus would be more pronounced in women than in men.

PURPOSE: Absorbable interference screws for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) can lead to tunnel widening and cyst formation. The Biosure Regenesorb interference screw (Smith & Nephew). has been developed with an optimised calcium phosphate/polymer composition to promote bone formation during resorption. The present study aims to investigate screw resorption, new bone formation, and tunnel geometry following ACLR with Biosure Regenesorb screw tibial fixation.
METHODS: The study is a prospective single-centre case series of 12 patients with ACL lesions and treated with ACLR usin

BACKGROUND: The treatment of meniscus injuries combined with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction would be important to improve outcomes after ACL reconstruction. However, the effects of treatment methods for meniscus after ACL reconstruction have not been thoroughly investigated. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of treatment methods for meniscus on clinical and radiological outcomes at 2 years after ACL reconstruction.
METHODS: Three-hundred and eighteen patients with primary ACL reconstruction using autologous hamstring tendon registered in our multicent

PURPOSE: The objective of this single-center randomized single-blinded trial was to assess the hypothesis that anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using a four-strand semitendinosus (ST) graft with adjustable femoral and tibial cortical fixation produced good outcomes compared to an ST/gracilis (ST/G) graft with femoral pin transfixation and tibial bioscrew fixation. Follow-up was 2 years.
METHODS: Patients older than 16 years who underwent primary isolated ACLR included for 1 year until August 2017 were eligible. The primary outcome measures were the subjective International Kne

BACKGROUND: Ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are common injuries to the knee joint. Arthroscopic ACL replacement by autologous tendon grafts has established itself as a standard of care. Data from both experimental and observational studies suggest that surgical reconstruction does not fully restore knee stability. Persisting anterior laxity may lead to recurrent episodes of giving-way and cartilage damage. This might at least in part depend on the method of graft fixation in the bony tunnels. Whereas resorbable screws are easy to handle, pins may better preserve graft tension.

ACL rupture is a common injury in recreational and professional athletes. Most ACL tears occur in combination with an ALL lesion. Combined reconstruction of the ACL and ALL reduces re-rupture rates by up to 3.1 times compared to isolated ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendons; however, it has not yet been established as the surgical standard. The purpose of this study was to investigate if patients benefit from ACL+ALL reconstruction in terms of translation and rotation stability, return to activity and return to sport, as well as to assess any potential negative effects of this technique.

OBJECTIVE: Although several reconstructive methods have been developed to manage large segmental tibial bone defects including bone transport (distraction osteogenesis), contralateral fibular graft, allograft, tibiofibular synostosis, Masquelet technique, and 3D printed scaffold, neglected large tibial defects in adults remain challenging problems. This study describes gradual transverse transport of naturally tibialized fibula using hexapod frames in management of adult patients with neglected large tibial defects.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed four cases of transverse transport of na

BACKGROUND: Three different techniques of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction--conventional (transtibial) single bundle (CSB), anatomic single bundle (ASB), and anatomic double bundle (ADB)--have been described.
PURPOSE: To determine if double-bundle reconstruction is needed to restore rotational stability or if anatomic placement of a single bundle can yield similar results.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 1.
METHODS: From December 2005 to December 2007, 320 patients were prospectively randomized into 3 groups: ADB, ASB, and CSB reconstruction. The

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Residual rotational laxity remains a relevant clinical concern after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Combined ACL and anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction has been proposed to improve control of rotational laxity; however, clinical outcome data supporting techniques using adjustable-loop femoral fixation for combined reconstruction remain limited. This study aimed to compare short-term clinical outcomes and knee laxity between combined ACL + ALL reconstruction and isolated ACL reconstruction. We hypothesized that combined reconstruction would de

INTRODUCTION: Suture tape augmentation with high-strength sutures, also known as internal bracing (IB), has been proposed as a 'safety belt' to protect the graft during the ligamentization period and decrease the chances of graft failure following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The primary objective of this study is to compare the functional outcome of arthroscopic ACLR with and without IB. The secondary aim is to compare complications, including arthrofibrosis, joint stiffness, synovitis, effusions, and ACL reinjury that require revision.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort st

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft failure is a complication of ACL reconstruction (ALCR). Smaller autograft diameter may be a contributing factor. Our aim was to determine if hamstring autograft diameter influences graft rupture and patient-reported outcome scores.
METHODS: This study included 786 consecutive patients undergoing primary, single bundle, autograft hamstring ACLR. The primary outcome was revision ACLR surgery. Secondary outcomes were patient reported International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, Knee Injury & Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and Te

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are frequently treated with surgical reconstruction with grafts, frequently patella tendon or hamstrings. Interference screws are often used to secure the graft in bone tunnels in the femur and tibia. This review examines whether bioabsorbable interference screws give better results than metal interference screws when used for graft fixation in ACL reconstruction.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects (benefits and harms) of bioabsorbable versus metallic interference screws for graft fixation in ACL reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Ramp lesions (RLs) associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury increase knee instability. However, whether RLs should be treated surgically remains unclear.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to investigate the presence of RLs and compare the knee stability between patients who underwent surgical repair for unstable RLs and those who received nonoperative management for stable RLs. It was hypothesized that there would be a correlation between RLs and knee instability and that RL repair would improve postoperative knee stability.

PURPOSE: Finding prognostic factors for a subsequent injury after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.
METHODS: We re-analysed the data of two intervention studies on adults with a hamstrings or quadriceps tendon ACL reconstruction. All participants were prospectively monitored for 24 months. At the end of the individual postsurgery rehabilitation, numerous self-reported and objective functional outcomes were quantified, all potential secondary injuries (primary outcome was the occurrence of secondary ipsi- or contralateral ACL injuries) and all rehabilitation and training meas
