Continuous intra-sinus bone regeneration after nongrafted sinus lift with a PLLA mesh plate device and dental implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Sinus lift is a bone augmentation procedure that improves the alveolar crest height in an atrophic posterior maxilla. However, the regenerated bone volume can vary and generally has a tendency to decrease after sinus operation. This article describes nongrafted maxillary sinus lift using a bioresorbable unsintered hydroxyapatite combined with poly L-lactide (HA/PLLA) mesh plate device and dental implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla, after which continuous bone gain was observed around the implant apex during a postoperative follow-up period of 3 years. Reconstruction of an atrophic edentulous maxilla with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) using sub-antral augmentation and osseointegrated implants: case report and 3-year follow-up.

With the current sophisticated, multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of cleft palate, it is anticipated that most patients with this deformity will enjoy good dental health and function. However, due to the number of older adults who were not treated with primary bone grafting and orthodontic therapy, there remains a significant number of potential candidates who may benefit from dental implants and implant-supported prostheses. Although it was not necessary in this case, a pharyngeal extension may be added to the maxillary denture to further improve speech and deglutition. This case re

Subantral sinus augmentation using hydraulic lift system and alloplastic phosphosilicate putty followed by simultaneous implant placement for the rehabilitation of an atrophic posterior maxilla: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Tooth extraction is generally accompanied by bone remodeling and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus in the posterior region of the maxilla, which can result in a reduction in the height and width of the bone and compromise the placement of the implant. However, this anatomic deficiency can be restored through maxillary sinus elevation. Among the various surgical methods used, the indirect sinus floor elevation technique is relatively less invasive and less complex. AIM: Herein, we present the case of a 58-year-old partially edentulous female who underwent rehabilitation of the

A prospective randomized controlled trial of two-window versus solo-window technique by lateral sinus floor elevation in atrophic posterior maxilla: Results from a 1-year observational phase.

BACKGROUND: Implant failures are more common when multiple missing posterior teeth need lateral sinus floor elevation owing to inadequate tissue maturation after grafting. Effects of lateral window dimensions on vital bone formation have rarely been compared. PURPOSE: To compare endo-sinus bone formation between two- and solo-window techniques to rehabilitate multiple missing posterior teeth that need substantial augmentation. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Patients with severely atrophic posterior maxilla were randomized to receive lateral sinus floor elevation via solo or two bony windows. Bone co

Le Fort I osteotomy, bilateral sinus lift, and inlay bone-grafting for reconstruction in the severely atrophic maxilla: a new vision of the sandwich technique, using bone scrapers and piezosurgery.

Severe atrophy of the edentulous maxilla and progressive pneumatisation of the maxillary sinus can compromise the insertion of dental implants. In this context, ideal implant positioning is limited by inadequate height, width, and quality of the bone. Le Fort I osteotomy and interpositional bone graft is an excellent treatment concept for the dental rehabilitation of patients with atrophied maxilla and reversed intermaxillary relationship. In this report, we indicate the transcendent aspect of elevation and preservation of maxillary sinus and nasal mucosa, modifying the sandwich technique by t

Pterygoid implants as alternative to bone augmentation in implant dentistry.

The ultimate dental implant challenge is reconstruction of the severely resorbed maxilla, especially in patients with long-term edentulism or multiple previous failed attempts at dental implant placement and full-arch implant rehabilitation. Before implant dentistry, complete dentures, which are limited by poor retention and lack of support that the alveolar ridge offers in atrophic maxillae, were the only option for these patients. Pterygoid implants are now a valid and valuable resource for the rehabilitation of the posterior atrophic maxilla. This chapter will cover pterygoid implant surgic
