One new cembrane diterpene, 16-hydroxycembra-1,3,7,11-tetraene (1), along with three known compounds, 15-hydroxycembra-1,3,7,11-tetraene (2), sarcophine (3) and sarcophytoxide (4) were isolated from Sarcophyton sp. collected from Karah Island, Terengganu, West Malaysia. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic data. Activities of these compounds against antibacterial resistant clinical bacteria are reported. Aphanamenes A (1) and B (2), two unprecedented acyclic diterpene dimers formed via a [4 + 2]-cycloaddition, were isolated from the root bark of Aphanamixis grandifolia. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses, and the absolute configuration of 1 was determined by ECD calculations. We report a relay cross metathesis (ReXM) reaction for the construction of terpenoids in an iterative protocol. The protocol features the cross metathesis of a relay-actuated Δ6,7-functionalized C10-monoterpenoid alcohol with C10-monoterpenoid citral to form a C15-sesquiterpene. Subsequent functional group manipulation allows for the method to be repeated in an iterative fashion. The method is used for the synthesis of a diterpene-benzoate macrolide of biogenetic relevance to the bromophycolide family of natural products.

In this work the effect of a novel compound, 5-epi-icetexone (ICTX) obtained from Salvia gilliessi Benth. (Labiatae), is studied on cultured epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi (Tulahuen). It was found that the compound exerts an antiproliferative effect on the parasites at concentrations between 2.8 and 4.2 microM, and similar sensitivity in other strains (Dm28c, CL-Brener and Y-strain). BACKGROUND: Nutrients, including bioactive natural compounds, have been demonstrated to affect key metabolic processes implicated in tumor growth and progression, both in preclinical and clinical trials. Although the application of precision nutrition as a complementary approach to improve cancer treatments is still incipient in clinical practice, the development of powerful "omics" techniques has opened new possibilities for delivering nutritional advice to cancer patients.
