Engaging medical and dental students in curriculum committees: Faculty insights and expectations.

OBJECTIVE: To explore faculty insights about the undergraduate medical students' participation in the curriculum committees. METHODOLOGY: An exploratory approach to qualitative study design was adopted. Four focus group discussions were conducted in two medical and two dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, based on a piloted and validated guide, over a period of six months July 2021-January 2022. The audio recordings were transcribed verbatim. Anonymity was ensured, and thematic analysis of the transcripts was undertaken using the investigator triangulation. RESULTS: Two hundred and seven n

Exploring Faculty Preparedness for Artificial Intelligence-Driven Dental Education: A Multicentre Study.

Introduction In the modern era, technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), is the centre of digital innovation. AI is revolutionising numerous fields, including the healthcare sector, globally. Incorporating AI in dental education may help in improving the diagnostic accuracy, learners' experiences, and effectiveness of the management of dental education institutions. However, successful implementation of AI requires the faculty's willingness to incorporate it into their practices. Thus, this research aims to explore the readiness of faculty members to integrate AI into dental educati

Subspecialty Selection Impacts Research Productivity and Faculty Rank of Academic Orthopaedic Surgeons.

BACKGROUND: Faculty promotion and research productivity are important for the overall career trajectory of academic orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role that subspecialty and demographic factors play in research productivity and academic advancement among orthopaedic surgeons. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of academic rank among orthopaedic surgeons in 2018. We identified academic orthopaedic programs in the United States from the Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database (FREIDA) and collected publicly ava

Faculty Attitudes Toward Rhinology Fellowship Training: A Survey of Rhinology Fellowship Programs.

BACKGROUND: The number of rhinology fellowship programs has grown rapidly over the past decade. To date, no standardization or accreditation process exists, raising the potential for disparate programs. The attitudes of faculty regarding training are important to elucidate the educational experience of rhinology fellowship. METHODS: An anonymous, web-based survey of rhinology faculty assessed the subjective attitudes toward various domains of fellowship training including surgery, office-based procedures, research, and career development. A 5-point Likert-type scale assessing importance was u

What goes around comes around: improving faculty retention through more effective mentoring.

In the midst of a nursing faculty shortage, recruitment and retention of new faculty are of utmost importance if the country is to educate and graduate a sufficient number of nurses to fill the health care demands. The pressure of horizontal hostility combined with lack of support, guidance, and knowledge about the educational system makes the novice nurse faculty members vulnerable to burnout and early resignations. Mentorship is the single most influential way to successfully develop new nursing faculty, reaping the benefits of recruitment, retention, and long-term maturation of future nurse

Transformations in nursing education: Voices of senior faculty members with decades of experience.

BACKGROUND: Nursing education in Türkiye has undergone profound structural transformations over the past decades, driven by rapid program expansion, intensifying demands for research productivity, digitalization, and the erosion of academic-clinical continuity. Despite their centrality to educational quality, the lived experiences of senior nursing faculty members navigating these changes remain largely unexplored. AIM: To explore how senior nursing faculty members in Türkiye describe the major transformations in nursing education throughout their careers and how these changes have shaped the

Faculty perceptions of ChatGPT on academic integrity and institutional roles in higher education.

The rapid expansion of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools such as ChatGPT has raised growing concerns in higher education, particularly regarding assessment practices and academic integrity. This study examines faculty perceptions of ChatGPT in public universities in Saudi Arabia, with a focus on differences related to academic rank and institutional role. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, survey data were collected from 202 faculty members across eight public universities and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Scholarship of teaching and learning of nursing faculty members: a protocol for a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is emphasised more than ever in today's higher education institutions. SoTL is crucial in enhancing nursing education and improving student learning outcomes, thereby preparing competent nurses to deliver high-quality healthcare. Despite its importance, the dimensions and defining characteristics of SoTL have not been adequately explored. This scoping review aims to clarify the concept of SoTL in nursing education, identify its key features and address existing knowledge gaps in this field. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The study adopts Ar

Faculty of Education Professors' Perception about the Inclusion of University Students with Disabilities.

The recognition of the right to the inclusion of people with disabilities on a global scale has led to progress in the planning and development of policies and programs among different areas. The present work addresses the accessibility barriers to university education as an opportunity for greater inclusion. Universities must facilitate all students' physical, curricular, and relational access and comply with a "reasonable accommodation" policy to allow students with disabilities equal opportunities. The aim is to analyze the barriers that hinder educational inclusion. Four factors are explor

Student perspectives on faculty incivility in nursing education: an application of the concept of rankism.

Incivility in nursing education is an emergent problem and one that seriously disrupts the teaching-learning environment and often results in conflicted and stressful student/faculty relationships. Nursing faculty who demonstrate positive, respectful behaviors, encourage similar behaviors from their students. Conversely, faculty who are aloof, disinterested, and demeaning may invoke hostility. The author conducted a phenomenological study to examine nursing students' perceptions of faculty incivility and its impact on the students. Students identified 3 main themes of faculty incivility: (1) f

Relation of family responsibilities and gender to the productivity and career satisfaction of medical faculty.

BACKGROUND: Studies have found that female faculty publish less, have slower career progress, and generally have a more difficult time in academic careers than male faculty. The relation of family (dependent) responsibilities to gender and academic productivity is unclear. OBJECTIVE: To describe dependent responsibilities by gender and to identify their relation to the aspirations, goals, rate of progress, academic productivity, and career satisfaction of male and female medical school faculty. Health status in the Caribbean. Has the faculty of medical sciences made a difference?

The Faculty of Medical Sciences has contributed to improvements in health status in the Caribbean through its research, training, and service and outreach programmes. Basic and applied research has yielded important scientific data and information that has guided health care, resulting in decreases in morbidity and mortality. Physicians graduating from its undergraduate programme and successfully completing its graduate programmes, and nurses and other professionals trained in the Faculty, are widely dispersed throughout the Caribbean and, together with Faculty staff members, have collaborated

The Baltic dental programme at the Faculty of Dentistry of The Karolinska Institute: first evaluation.

In 1992, The Faculty of Dentistry of The Karolinska Institute (KI) introduced a dental undergraduate programme specifically for Baltic students. Initiative for this programme came from both the Ministries of Health in Estonia and Latvia and a Member's Bill in the Swedish Committee for Foreign Affairs. The first 10 students were admitted in January 1992, and in 1994, a further 8 students were accepted. The main objective is to train Baltic students according to the Scandinavian model of dental education, in order to facilitate a positive development in dentistry in these countries. Candidates f
