Pregnant women's perspectives on antenatal care utilization in Cameroon: a cross- sectional mixed-methods study.

Antenatal care (ANC) is essential for improving maternal and fetal health outcomes, yet utilization remains suboptimal in Cameroon. This study explored pregnant women's perspectives on determinants of ANC utilization and perceived quality of care in the Buea and Limbe Health Districts, conceptualizing satisfaction both as an outcome of service quality and a contextual influence on continued utilization. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was employed, comprising a cross-sectional survey of 410 pregnant women attending public, private, and faith-based health facilities, followed by

Exposure to Community Violence and Adverse Childhood Experiences in the Emergency Department.

INTRODUCTION: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and exposure to community violence are public health issues linked to negative mental and physical health outcomes. The emergency department (ED) can play a critical role in the care of patients with a history of trauma exposure. Unfortunately, patients' experiences often go unidentified, leading to missed opportunities to address and prevent further harm. METHODS: We administered a 22-question survey of trauma exposure in ED patients to 1) identify the prevalence of exposure to community violence and ACEs and resulting post-traumatic stress

Diagnosing recurring explanatory gaps and proposing a mechanism-based psychoeducational framework in Islamic-tradition long-term care: a model informed by the moral exemplarity of the prophet Muhammad.

This study examines Islamic-tradition psychosocial, religious, and spiritual intervention programs implemented in institutional long-term care settings. As a Hypothesis and Theory contribution, the study adopts a conceptual-theoretical research design. Eight intervention programs identified through a structured search across multiple databases were examined across four analytical dimensions. These dimensions were program theory articulation, mechanism specification, construct-measurement alignment, and methodological integrity. The analysis identified three recurring methodological limitations

Impact evaluation of a maternal and neonatal health training intervention in private Ugandan facilities.

Global and country-specific targets for reductions in maternal and neonatal mortality in low-resource settings will not be achieved without improvements in the quality of care for optimal facility-based obstetric and newborn care. This global call includes the private sector, which is increasingly serving low-resource pregnant women. The primary aim of this study was to estimate the impact of a clinical and management-training programme delivered by a non-governmental organization [LifeNet International] that partners with clinics on adherence to global standards of clinical quality during lab

Applications of genome editing technologies in the treatment of human diseases.

Genome editing has progressed from a laboratory capability for targeted DNA manipulation to a clinically relevant strategy for correcting, silencing, or regulating genes implicated in human disease. In this Review, we synthesize the mechanisms, capabilities, and constraints of the principal programmable platforms-zinc-finger nucleases (ZFNs), transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs), and CRISPR-Cas systems-and highlight how base editors, prime editors, and epigenetic editors expand the range of achievable outcomes beyond double-strand break-dependent repair to precise nucleotid

School transparency as a predictor of organizational trust.

Today, the gradual weakening of trust in institutions leads to serious social and administrative problems in a wide range of areas, from public administration to the private sector, from non-governmental organizations to digital platforms, and in this context, the concept of transparency stands out as one of the important elements affecting trust. Transparency is the state where the actions and practices of a person, institution, or system are clear, understandable, and traceable, while trust is the state where an individual willingly allows themselves to be vulnerable based on their belief th

Generation of Quiescent Cardiac Fibroblasts From Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells for In Vitro Modeling of Cardiac Fibrosis.

RATIONALE: Activated fibroblasts are the major cell type that secretes excessive extracellular matrix in response to injury, contributing to pathological fibrosis and leading to organ failure. Effective anti-fibrotic therapeutic solutions, however, are not available due to the poorly defined characteristics and unavailability of tissue-specific fibroblasts. Recent advances in single-cell RNA-sequencing fill such gaps of knowledge by enabling delineation of the developmental trajectories and identification of regulatory pathways of tissue-specific fibroblasts among different organs. OBJECTIVE:

Fertility counseling experiences and perceived gaps in provider support among people living with HIV: a qualitative study from an antiretroviral therapy clinic in Ghana.

INTRODUCTION: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has made safer childbearing achievable for people living with HIV (PLHIV), and the reproductive health counseling PLHIV receive within HIV care shapes whether they can act safely on their fertility intentions. This study explored, from the perspective of PLHIV themselves, how the reproductive counseling they reported receiving shaped their fertility decision making, and which aspects of counseling support they perceived to be missing. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design with inductive reflexive thematic analysis was used. Twelve PLHIV (nine wom

Availability of two essential medicines for mental health in Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Nepal, Malawi, Senegal, and Tanzania: Evidence from nationally representative samples of 7958 health facilities.

BACKGROUND: Access to effective mental health services in low- and- middle income countries (LMICs) is limited, leading to a substantial global treatment gap. Amitriptyline, an anti-depressant, and diazepam, an anxiolytic drug, are classified as essential medications by the World Health Organization (WHO). They are the only psychotropic medications whose availability in health facilities is documented as part of Service Provision Assessment surveys. Our objective was to characterize the availability of these medicines in seven countries. METHODS: We pooled nationally representative data from

Optimized Genome-Wide Profiling of Centromeric Chromatin Complexes by ChIP-seq.

Centromeres are specialized chromosomal regions essential for faithful chromosome segregation and genome stability. Their highly repetitive DNA composition and epigenetically defined chromatin state present significant challenges for genome-wide profiling approaches such as chromatin immunoprecipitation followed by sequencing (ChIP-seq). Standard ChIP-seq workflows often perform poorly at centromeric regions, resulting in low signal-to-noise ratios and limited reproducibility. This article describes a ChIP-seq protocol optimized to enrich for and analyze centromeric chromatin from cell lines.

Religiosity, Burnout, Depression, and Anxiety in a University Setting During COVID-19 in the USA: A Cross-Sectional Study.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to increased psychological burdens in all age groups. Limited literature has examined the relationship between religiosity, burnout, and mental health. We examined the relationship of religiosity to burnout, depression, and anxiety in a university setting. A questionnaire was emailed to all faculty, staff, and students at a single, faith-based university in the USA between November 2021 and April 2022. The survey contained 3-validated scales: the 16-item Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI), the 14-item Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HADS), and the 5-item Duke Univers
