Research on Plant Landscape Design of Urban Industrial Site Green Space Based on Green Infrastructure Concept.

With the acceleration of the global urbanization process, more and more industrial plants are being abandoned, which puts great pressure on urban ecology and land resource management. These abandoned industrial spaces not only lead to persistent pollution problems, but also exacerbate the urban heat island effect, leading to a worsening microclimate. To address these issues, the concept of green infrastructure (GI) has emerged as a sustainable ecological restoration strategy, and it is an important tool for urban renewal and industrial land transformation. In this study, the landscape environm

How free-ranging ungulates with differing water dependencies cope with seasonal variation in temperature and aridity.

Large mammals respond to seasonal changes in temperature and precipitation by behavioural and physiological flexibility. These responses are likely to differ between species with differing water dependencies. We used biologgers to contrast the seasonal differences in activity patterns, microclimate selection, distance to potential water source and body temperature of the water-independent gemsbok (Oryx gazella gazella) and water-dependent blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), free-living in the arid Kalahari region of Botswana. Gemsbok were more active nocturnally during the hot seasons tha

An integrated risk assessment model for indoor air quality impacts on museum exhibits and human health using microclimatic indices and AgNPs treatment.

The quality of indoor air in museums directly influences the conservation of exhibits made of organic materials, but also the health of visitors, employees and restorers. Thus, monitoring the microclimate and identifying non-invasive solutions to limit its impact becomes essential for the protection of movable cultural heritage. Thus, this study aims to monitor ten indicators of indoor air quality and their impact on exhibits, visitors and employees in a museum in Romania. The data obtained were analysed using specific indexes to accurately assess the indoor microclimate risk for both human he

Influence of Household Roof Types on the Development of Plasmodium vivax in Anopheles stephensi Mosquitoes.

Urbanization and microclimate variation in cities can influence mosquito behavior and parasite development, thus affecting malaria transmission. This study investigates how the impact of microclimate variations due to household roof types can aid in the survival of Anopheles stephensi and the development of Plasmodium vivax in an urban slum setting. Understanding these vital environmental interactions is essential for devising effective control strategies to achieve malaria elimination. Anopheles stephensi (F1) mosquitoes were membrane-fed with blood collected from P. vivax-infected patients b

Tick abundance and diversity are substantially lower in thinned vs. unthinned forests in the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve, USA.

Forest thinning is a management tool used in the New Jersey Pinelands and elsewhere to improve forest health and resilience, mitigate wildfire risk, and manage for wildlife. Forest thinning leads to warmer drier microclimates, which have been shown in both field and laboratory studies to reduce tick survival and reproduction. To directly assess the effects of forest thinning on the abundance and diversity of ticks and on the prevalence of tick-borne human pathogens, we sampled ticks weekly from March to November 2021 at three replicated pairs of thinned and unthinned forest sites composed prim

Evaluation of PepT1 transport of food-derived antihypertensive peptides, Ile-Pro-Pro and Leu-Lys-Pro using in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo transport models.

Ile-Pro-Pro (IPP) and Leu-Lys-Pro (LKP) are food-derived antihypertensive peptides which inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and may have potential to attenuate hypertension. There is debate over their mechanism of uptake across small intestinal epithelia, but paracellular and PepT1 carrier-mediated uptake are thought to be important routes. The aim of this study was to determine their routes of intestinal permeability using in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo intestinal models. The presence of an apical side pH of 6.5 (mimicking the intestinal acidic microclimate) and of Gly-Sar (a high aff

Analysis of Hygrothermal Microclimatic (HTM) Parameters in Specific Food Storage Environments in Slovakia.

The quality of work environment, temperature changes and humidity must be controlled in every production process and in the locations where employees are present. The aim of this paper is to objectively assess the exposure of employees to microclimatic factors of the workplace environment: the warehouse, changing rooms, office and cold room refrigerator. Data were obtained in real working conditions. The heat stress due to cold and heat exposure in the individual locations was evaluated using the WBGT (wet bulb globe temperature) indicator. The parameters of the hygrothermal microclimate (HTM)

Residual tetrachloroethylene in dry-cleaned clothes.

A large amount of residual tetrachloroethylene (TCE), up to 13.6 mg/g, was found in dry-cleaned clothes. The amounts varied among dry-cleaning establishments as well as with the type of fiber. The causes of these variations are discussed. Air TCE concentrations in the closed environment of dry-cleaning outlets were elevated: the highest reading was 4.8 mg/m3. The expired air of outlet employees also showed an increased level of TCE (average, 36.9 micrograms/m3). Increased air contamination from TCE released from dry-cleaned clothes was also observed in the home of a consumer. To reduce environ

[Fascial healing and wound failure].

The difficulties of acute or delayed failure of fascial healing after laparotomies are of great socioeconomic relevance. Despite a plurality of publications in the last decades, the incidence of burst abdomen (1-3%) and incisional hernia (10-15%) remained unchanged. The generally accepted cause is a multifactorial event with a large number of influencing factors. Therefore, only interdisciplinary cooperations are a match for the scientific complexity of this topic. A still underestimated problem is the description of wound healing factors influencing the microclimate in fascial healing. New as

Dengue's climate conundrum: how vegetation and temperature shape mosquito populations and disease outbreaks.

INTRODUCTION: Dengue, a prevalent mosquito-borne viral disease in tropical regions, is influenced by environmental factors such as rainfall, temperature, and urbanization. This study aims to assess the effects of microclimate, vegetation, and Aedes species distribution on dengue transmission in distinct hotspot and non-hotspot locations. METHODS: This cohort study was conducted in two sites within Selangor, Malaysia: a recurrent dengue hotspot and a non-dengue hotspot. Microclimatic variables (temperature, humidity, and rainfall) were monitored over six months using data loggers, and vegetati

The influence of surface type on the absorbed radiation by a human under hot, dry conditions.

Given the predominant use of heat-retaining materials in urban areas, numerous studies have addressed the urban heat island mitigation potential of various "cool" options, such as vegetation and high-albedo surfaces. The influence of altered radiational properties of such surfaces affects not only the air temperature within a microclimate, but more importantly the interactions of long- and short-wave radiation fluxes with the human body. Minimal studies have assessed how cool surfaces affect thermal comfort via changes in absorbed radiation by a human (R abs) using real-world, rather than mode

Does waterfall aerosol influence mucosal immunity and chronic stress? A randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: The specific microclimate of alpine waterfalls with high levels of ionized water aerosols has been suggested to trigger beneficial immunological and psychological effects. In the present three-armed randomized controlled clinical study, we focused on effects on (i) immunological reagibility, on (ii) physiological stress responses, and on (iii) stress-related psychological parameters. METHODS: People with moderate to high stress levels (n = 65) spent an active sojourn with daily hiking tours in the National Park Hohe Tauern (Großkirchheim, Austria). Half of the group was exposed to

Micro- and Macroenvironment and Habitat Influences on Tick Abundance in Oklahoma City Urban Parks.

Most studies on tick-borne diseases in the United States have focused on suburban and rural areas, leaving a gap in understanding risks in cities, where environmental conditions and human-tick interactions differ. Recent research has examined microhabitat effects on tick abundance but are limited in spatial and temporal scope. Tick behavior, such as host seeking, is shaped by local environmental factors and remains underexplored in urban landscapes. Integrating Earth observations of macroenvironmental and habitat conditions may improve our understanding of urban tick ecology. We hypothesize th

Measurements of carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide in British homes using unflued heating or cooking appliances.

Measurements of Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) were made in three kitchens, two with gas cookers and one all electric, and two living rooms, one heated by a portable butane heater and the other by a paraffin stove. The measurements were taken whilst the homes were in normal use and the occupants kept a diary of when specific appliances were used. Measurements of NO2 were made simultaneously by chemiluminescence and by diffusion tubes. The accuracy of the diffusion tube measurements relative to the chemiluminescent standard was estimated as +/- 10% and the precision less than o

[Rational occupational arrangements for disabled epileptics].

Five hundred epileptics working at common enterprises of various industries were examined in order to evaluate the character of their work arrangements. It was established that in 76% of the patients, the working arrangements were quite rational whilst in 24% they were not. On the material provided by the latter group, the author outlined the factors that negatively affect the mechanisms of biological compensation and the stability of social and occupational adaptation. The quality of occupational recommendations in 10 administrative areas of the RSFS R was also studied. It was revealed that t
