Subserosal vascular density predicts oncological features of T2 gallbladder cancer.

PURPOSE: Tumor sidedness (hepatic side vs. peritoneal side) reportedly predicts microvascular invasion and survival outcomes of T2 gallbladder cancer, although the actual histopathological mechanism is not fully understood. METHODS: The clinical relevance of tumor sidedness was revisited in 84 patients with gallbladder cancer using histopathological analysis of the vascular density of the gallbladder wall. RESULTS: Hepatic-side tumor location was associated with overall survival (OS) (hazard ratio [HR], 13.62; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.09-88.93) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) (HR,

Evaluation of change in the vascular density of choriocapillaris on optical coherence tomography angiography in eyes with serpiginous choroiditis.

PURPOSE: Serpiginous choroiditis (SC) is primarily an inflammation of choriocapillaris leading to nonperfusion. A quantitative assessment of choriocapillaris perfusion can be done by measuring the flow-density by OCT-Angiography (OCTA). This study measures a change in the flow-density of choriocapillaris with the resolution of inflammation. METHODS: The OCTA images of a choriocapillaris slab of 30 eyes with active SC were subjected to binarization and vessel density was measured at baseline and final visits and compared. RESULTS: Upon comparing the vessel density of the affected areas by OCT

Microvascular blood is distributed more to venules than to arterioles in patients with Buerger's disease. Observation of bulbar conjunctiva by intravital microscope system.

BACKGROUND: It has been a matter of controversy whether abnormalities of organs other than extremities may be a clinical manifestation of Buerger's disease (thromboangiitis obliterans; TAO). In the present investigation, our aim was to quantitatively characterise the configuration of microvascular networks in bulbar conjunctiva, which is not affected apparently, in patients with thromboangiitis obliterans. METHODS: Nine men with thromboangiitis obliterans attended our hospital and nine male volunteers as normal controls were enrolled in this study. We observed and analysed the configuration o

Human ocular surface microcirculation quantified by in vivo computer assisted video microscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.

Non-invasive imaging techniques are increasingly used to objectively quantify anterior segment structures of the eye. In this study, we apply the novel oxygen delivery index (ODIN) concept that, quantifies microvascular capacity for oxygen delivery, to the ocular surface in healthy humans. The purpose of the study was to test the applicability of the technologies used for data acquisition from the human ocular surface. We also validated whether the ODIN concept has sufficient sensitivity to detect and differentiate between microvascular structure and function in limbal and bulbar conjunctiva.

Effect of Circadian Blood Pressure Variations on Retinal Microvascular Structures: Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Analysis with the Nighttime Divided into Subintervals (Retinal Dawn Pattern).

Background and Objectives: Circadian fluctuations in blood pressure, particularly the non-dipping pattern characterized by the absence of a nocturnal decline, are associated with an increased risk of microvascular complications. The retina, as a highly sensitive microvascular tissue, offers a valuable window into systemic hemodynamic alterations. However, the literature lacks detailed structural analyses that evaluate all retinal regions by segmenting nighttime into specific time intervals. Notably, the early morning period (04:00-08:00), during which stress hormones such as cortisol and catec

Ezrin as a prognostic indicator and its relationship to tumor characteristics in uveal malignant melanoma.

PURPOSE: Immunohistochemistry was used to investigate whether uveal malignant melanoma expresses ezrin, a protein involved in cell migration and cell recognition by acting as a linker between the plasma membrane and actin cytoskeleton. Also investigated was whether ezrin immunoreactivity correlates with survival prognosis. METHODS: A monoclonal antibody, 3C12, that reacts with the carboxyl-terminal part of ezrin was used in retrospective analysis of a population-based cohort of 167 consecutive choroidal and ciliary body melanomas in eyes enucleated from 1972 through 1981, with a median follow

Young blood-mediated cerebromicrovascular rejuvenation through heterochronic parabiosis: enhancing blood-brain barrier integrity and capillarization in the aged mouse brain.

Age-related cerebromicrovascular changes, including blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and microvascular rarefaction, play a significant role in the development of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) and neurodegenerative diseases. Utilizing the unique model of heterochronic parabiosis, which involves surgically joining young and old animals, we investigated the influence of systemic factors on these vascular changes. Our study employed heterochronic parabiosis to explore the effects of young and aged systemic environments on cerebromicrovascular aging in mice. We evaluated microvascular den
