Surgical Orthodontic Treatment for Skeletal Maxillary Protrusion in Sturge-Weber Syndrome: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is characterized by hemangiomas, glaucoma, and central nervous system disorders. Here, we report the case of a 15-year-old boy with SWS and upper-lip hypertrophy who underwent surgical orthodontic treatment for correction of a large overjet and deep overbite. In addition to the a large overjet and deep overbite, interdental spacing was observed in both the arches. The mandible was retrognathic and deviated to the right side. No maxillary occlusal canting or temporomandibular joint symptoms were observed. The patient was diagnosed with skeletal maxillary protrusion w

Maturational changes of the normal occlusion: A 40-year follow-up.

INTRODUCTION: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the changes in dental arch dimensions, tooth size, and incisor crowding in subjects with normal occlusion over a 40-year period. METHODS: A sample of 82 white subjects with normal occlusion evaluated in adolescence and early adulthood was recruited for a third evaluation in their sixth decade of life. The final sample included dental casts of 22 subjects (12 men, 10 women) obtained at mean ages of 13.3, 17.8, and 60.9 years. The following variables were measured on the digital casts: mesiodistal tooth size; clinical crown height; arch length,

Orthodontic treatment of acquired open bite accompanied with extreme mesially inclined mandibular molars.

Acquired open bite mainly occurs after adolescence and is caused by a pathological or biological process. We herein report the case of an 18-year and 10-month-old Japanese woman. Her chief complaint was difficulty with mastication. Only distal cusps of first molars and second molars had contact. An angle class II molar relationship and extreme mesially inclined mandibular first molars were observed. The degree of overjet was +6.1mm and overbite was -2.0mm. There were no symptoms or abnormal findings in temporomandibular joints by radiography and magnetic resonance imaging. A skeletal class II

Relationship between the curve of Spee and craniofacial variables: A regression analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this regression analysis was to identify the determining factors, which impact the curve of Spee during its genesis, its therapeutic reconstruction, and its stability, within a continuously evolving craniofacial morphology throughout life. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We selected a total of 107 patients, according to the inclusion criteria. A morphological and functional clinical examination was performed for each patient: plaster models, tracing of the curve of Spee, crowding, Angle's classification, overjet and overbite were thus recorded. Then, we made a cephalometric ana

Orthodontic correction of anterior open bite using skeletal anchorage: systematic review and meta-analysis.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the scientific evidence on the short- and long-term effects of orthodontic correction of anterior open bite (AOB) using skeletal anchorage (SA). Clinical studies on the use of SA for AOB in patients with permanent dentition, or at least 12 years of age, were searched. Short- and long-term (≥2 years) outcomes were collected. Mean differences were calculated from pooled data. Twenty-four eligible articles with a total of 362 subjects were selected for inclusion in the meta-analysis. There was a significant increase in overbite (3.88 mm, P < 0.001) and

Over-bite and vertical changes following first premolar extraction in high angle cases.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Orthodontists generally agree that nonextraction treatment is associated with downward and backward rotation of the mandible and an increase in the lower anterior face height (LAFH). They also agree that extraction line of treatment is associated with upward and forward rotation of the mandible and decrease in the LAFH. The intent of this cephalometric investigation was to examine the wedge hypothesis, that the vertical dimension collapses after first bicuspid extraction. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the cephalometric overbite and vertical changes following

[Multipurpose miniscrews: combined canine disimpaction and malocclusion correction].

The objective of this case series was to show how only one miniscrew can be used to treat simultaneously or successively canine impaction and different malocclusions. Three patients aged of 13 years old who had malocclusions, such as Class II, overbite and canine impaction, were each one treated with the same miniscrew throughout the treatment period. Palatal miniscrews were placed mesially to the first molar and used as a direct or indirect anchorage depending on the moment of the treatment. In each case, satisfactory treatment was obtained with correction of overbite, class II malocclusion a

[Frequency and localization of facets in adults with correct dental arches and malocclusion in anterior teeth region regarding periodontal reaction and occlusal guidance].

We investigated 322 patients, 20 and 40 old to find connections between the occurrence and localisation of facets, malocclusion and dynamic occlusion and estimated special aspects of periodontal reactions. The symptoms "anterior crowding", "increased overbite and overjet" didn't effect an increasing of frequency of facets in comparison with eugnathic denture. We found, that the facets decreased in lateral segments if the overbite became deeper and on the other hand number of facets increased with advancing years. The localisation of facets and occlusal guidance of dynamic occlusion coincided o

Absolute anchorage with universal T-loop mechanics for severe deepbite and maxillary anterior protrusion and its 10-year stability.

An adult patient with severe maxillary protrusion and deepbite who was congenitally missing two mandibular incisors was treated successfully by maximum retraction of the maxillary anterior teeth after extraction of the maxillary first premolars using a moment differential between the anterior and posterior segments created by a universal T-loop. Anterior teeth were moved with controlled tipping, and little anchorage loss of the posterior segments was experienced using the universal T-loop spring. Reduction of overbite was performed by absolute intrusion of both maxillary and mandibular anterio
