Long-term neurosensory deficits following transoral vertical ramus and sagittal split osteotomies for mandibular prognathism.

Twenty-six patients who had been treated for mandibular prognathism by either bilateral sagittal split osteotomy or transoral vertical ramus osteotomy were evaluated by neurosensory examination. Neuropathy was demonstrable in 28.8% of the 52 mental nerves examined. The incidence of neuropathy was significantly higher in the bilateral sagittal split osteotomy group than in the transoral vertical osteotomy group.

Targeted sequencing of NOTCH signaling pathway genes and association analysis of variants correlated with mandibular prognathism.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to systematically identify variants in NOTCH signaling pathway genes that correlate with mandibular prognathism (MP) in the general Chinese population. METHODS: Targeted sequencing of NOTCH signaling pathway genes was conducted in 199 MP individuals and 197 class I malocclusion control individuals. The associations of common and rare variants with MP, cephalometric parameters, and continuous cephalometric phenotypes were analyzed by principal component (PC) analysis. The associations between rare variants and MP were tested for each gene. RESULTS:

Stability of mandibular incisors following excessive proclination: a study in adults with surgically treated mandibular prognathism.

The purpose of this study was to determine if mandibular incisors could be proclined markedly without increasing the potential for relapse of crowding. Patients with surgically treated mandibular prognathism were selected. In 29 patients the mandibular incisors were proclined more than 10 degrees during the presurgical orthodontic phase. The remaining 33 patients had only minimal change in incisor inclination. A long-term follow-up examination was performed 10.0 (SD 2.3) and 11.1 (SD 3.1) years postoperatively in 26 and 24 patients, respectively. Study casts were measured before and after trea

Appraising mandibular prognathism in class III malocclusion following orthognathic surgery: Patient-reported and cephalometry-based outcomes.

Patients with class III malocclusion often exhibit mandibular prognathism and complain of "prognathic appearance". The overall positive effects of orthognathic surgery on facial appearance have been demonstrated using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), but studies investigating the correlation between subjective PROMs results and objective measurements of imaging studies are sparse in the literature. This study recruited consecutive patients with skeletal class III malocclusion who underwent two-jaw orthognathic surgery between January 2016 and January 2021. The PROMs survey was conduc
