Social-Emotional Profiles of PTSD, Complex PTSD, and Borderline Personality Disorder Among Racially and Ethnically Diverse Young Adults: A Latent Class Analysis.

The debate around the construct validity of complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) has begun to examine whether CPTSD diverges from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) when it co-occurs with the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD). The present study (a) examined the construct validity of CPTSD through a latent class analysis of a non-treatment-seeking sample of young trauma-exposed adults and (b) characterized each class in terms of trauma characteristics, social emotions (e.g., shame, guilt, blame), and interpersonal functioning. A total of 23 dichotomized survey items

Latent class and time-to-event analyses of social determinants of health and COVID-19 vaccine uptake among Black women living with HIV.

Existing inequities are exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to HIV, COVID-19 disproportionately affects Black and other communities of color. Among Black women living with HIV (BWLWH) this study examined the relationship between community level and individual level social determinants of health and time to COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Utilizing longitudinal data collected between February 2021 and May 2023, pre-pandemic experiences of microaggressions, economic stability, health behaviors, resilience, self-efficacy and trauma/violence were modeled using latent class (LCA) and time-to

A latent class analysis of lifetime potentially traumatic event exposure and the buffering role of social support on anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study examined relationships among lifetime trauma exposure, perceived social support, and anxiety during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample included 246 diverse adults (59.8% women, M age = 44.39 [SD = 12.96]) living in Ohio who completed questionnaires on trauma exposure, perceived social support, and anxiety symptoms. Latent class analysis identified four distinct classes based on patterns of potentially traumatic event exposure: Low, Moderate-Low, Moderate, and High. Further analyses using the BCH method demonstrated that the High Exposure class was associated with si

Social support and mental health among adolescents in Kenya, Indonesia, and Vietnam: A latent class analysis using the National Adolescent Mental Health Surveys.

BACKGROUND: There is a lack of country-level evidence for the association between social support and adolescent mental health while existing studies vary greatly in how they account for the interplay of multiple sources of social support. METHODS: This study utilised data from the National Adolescent Mental Health Surveys, nationally representative surveys of adolescents aged 10-17 years and their primary caregiver in Kenya, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Patterns of social support among adolescents in each country were assessed using a latent class analysis. The association between the identified s

Association between tobacco-related social environment and e-cigarette use among young adults in northern Vietnam: A cross-sectional study with latent class analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Tobacco and e-cigarette use among cohabitants and friends tends to cluster together, but data are scarce regarding the association between the clustering patterns and e-cigarette use. The objectives of this study are to identify clusters of the tobacco-related environment and assess the extent to which these clusters are associated with e-cigarette use among young adults in Vietnam. METHODS: We carried out a cross-sectional study among Vietnamese undergraduate students in the second year of study or higher at two universities in Hanoi between September and December 2024. We used

Reflecting sex, social class and race inequalities in reproduction? Study of the gender representations conveyed by 38 fertility centre websites in 8 European countries.

BACKGROUND: Fertility centre websites are a key sources of information on medically assisted reproduction (MAR) for both infertile people and the general public. As part of a global fertility market, they are also a window to attract potential future patients. They give formal and practical information but in the way the information is displayed, they also convey social representations, and in particular, gender representation in its intersectional dimension. The objective is to analyse the sex, class and race representations regarding reproduction and parenthood that are embedded in the conte

Social and structural determinants of health associated with police violence victimization: A latent class analysis of female sex workers who use drugs in Kazakhstan.

INTRODUCTION: Punitive legal environments remain a challenge to HIV prevention efforts in Central Asia, and female sex workers who use drugs are vulnerable to police violence. Little is known about the heterogeneity of police violence against female sex workers who use drugs and factors associated with HIV risk in Central Asia, despite the growing HIV epidemic. METHODS: We recruited a community-based sample of 255 female sex workers who use drugs in Almaty, Kazakhstan between February 2015 and May 2017. We used latent class analysis to differentiate women into distinct classes of police viole

Case of class II lupus nephritis with nephrotic features in the context of belimumab: Intersecting clinical challenge with academic initiative to emphasize social barriers in care.

Lupus nephritis is a severe complication of systemic lupus erythematosus that can cause significant kidney damage, leading to symptoms such as proteinuria, hematuria, and renal failure. If not managed promptly, it can progress to chronic kidney disease or even end-stage renal disease. Early diagnosis and treatment are vital to prevent such outcomes. While traditional treatments focus on immunosuppressive therapies, the introduction of belimumab offers a new treatment approach. Kidney biopsies play a crucial role in diagnosing and classifying lupus nephritis, helping guide appropriate treatment

Patterns of Substance Use and Associations with Mental, Physical, and Social Functioning: A Latent Class Analysis of a National Sample of U.S. Adults Ages 30-80.

Trends show increased substance use among adults, yet little research on general population samples has examined differential patterns of licit and illicit substance use that can inform prevention and treatment efforts. This study identifies distinct patterns (classes) of substance use among 30- to 80-year olds, identifies demographic subgroups with the highest probability of class memberships, and compares classes on key indicators of functioning. Method: Participants (n = 1,877) were from the RAND American Life Panel. Online survey measures included current alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and no

How social class shapes breast cancer risk perspectives and prevention practices of Australian midlife women: a qualitative study using the concept of 'breast cancer candidacy'.

BACKGROUND: The increasing incidence of breast cancer and disease burden is a significant public health concern. While 30% of breast cancers could be prevented through addressing modifiable risk factors, misconceptions among women about breast cancer risks hamper primary prevention. In the absence of primary prevention, secondary prevention such as mammography increases the early detection of breast cancer and improves health outcomes. However, current population-level screening rates indicate secondary prevention is suboptimal. More effective public health efforts to improve breast cancer pre

A Cognitive Reserve and Social Support-Focused Latent Class Analysis to Predict Self-Reported Confusion or Memory Loss among Middle-Aged World Trade Center Health Registry Enrollees.

The World Trade Center Health Registry includes 9/11 survivors who have been surveyed about their health conditions over time. The prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains high among the cohort and is a risk factor for cognitive impairment or dementia. We thus sought to examine the degree to which confusion or memory loss (CML)-potential symptoms of cognitive decline-are occurring among enrollees aged 35-64 years. Cognitive reserve theory suggests that higher levels of education and engaging in cognitively challenging activities can create stronger neural connections, offerin

The role of social determinants of health in post-diagnosis gestational weight gain trajectories among women with gestational diabetes mellitus: a multicenter cohort using latent class linear mixed models.

BACKGROUND: Excessive gestational weight gain (GWG) is common among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and is associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, the influence of social determinants of health (SDOH) on GWG trajectories in this population remains poorly understood. This study aimed to characterize GWG trajectories and evaluate how SDOH influence these patterns. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter cohort study of women with GDM who delivered at four hospitals in Wuhan, China. GWG trajectories were based on at least three weight measurements from GDM diag
