Personal computer teleradiology interhospital image transmission to facilitate tertiary pediatric telephone consultation and patient transfer: soft-tissue lateral neck and elbow radiographs.

Although teleradiology systems are available commercially, they are expensive ($30,000), and different makes are incompatible with each other, making them unusable for interhospital image transfers. Standard components were added to a personal computer (PC) to build a functional teleradiology unit capable of interhospital image transmission at a low cost ($600 upgrade). This PC teleradiology system was studied to assess its accuracy in the interpretation of soft-tissue lateral neck x-rays with epiglottitis or retropharyngeal abscesses and elbow x-rays with joint effusions, fractures, or both.

Quantifying 3-Dimensional Soft-to-Hard Tissue Response After Class III Orthognathic Surgery: A Hybrid Cone-Beam Computed Tomography-Stereophotogrammetric Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate prediction of postoperative soft tissue behavior remains a critical challenge in Class III orthognathic surgery. However, existing estimates of soft-to-hard tissue correspondence are largely derived from 2-dimensional analyses or single-modality imaging, limiting their ability to characterize region-specific soft tissue responses after bimaxillary correction. PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to quantify region-specific soft tissue responses to skeletal repositioning following bimaxillary surgery via a hybrid cone-beam computed tomography -3-dimensional stereophotogra

3D Histological Analysis of Soft Tissues by Contrast-Enhanced X-Ray Microfocus Computed Tomography: Screening and Staining Optimization of Contrast-Enhancing Staining Agents.

The gold standard for studying biological soft tissues at the microscale (i.e., histology) is tissue sectioning with subsequent colorimetric or fluorescent staining and visual inspection under the microscope. When tissue integrity must be maintained for 3D histological assessment, contrast-enhanced microfocus X-ray computed tomography (CECT) is a promising solution, but there is still a lack of staining protocol optimization of contrast-enhancing staining agents (CESAs). Therefore, in this study, mouse auricles were incubated with Hafnium-substituted Wells-Dawson polyoxometalate, cationic iodi

A study of the accuracy of predicted soft tissue changes produced by a computer software package (COG 3.4) in a series of patients treated by the Le Fort I osteotomy.

This study was performed to compare soft tissue movements resulting from a series of Le Fort I osteotomies with those predicted for the same cases by means of a computerised software package (COG 3.4). The source material consisted of serial lateral cephalometric radiographs for 25 consecutive patients that had received similar Le Fort I osteotomies primarily to correct an antero-posterior skeletal discrepancy. Generally it was found that many of the digitised points on the facial profile were surprisingly well predicted. In addition, the chin and profile changes resulting from mandibular auto
