From Challenge to Studio: A Prototype Frontline AI Innovation Mechanism to Address the AI Embedding Deficit in Healthcare and Educational Institutions.

INTRODUCTION: Health systems are expanding access to artificial intelligence (AI), yet frontline integration into teaching, clinical workflows, and research practice remains uneven. We frame this gap as the "AI embedding deficit," reflecting limited organizational pathways that enable frontline professionals to translate local needs into legitimate, supported, and sustainable AI-enabled tools and workflows. This Experience Report describes a prototype intervention mechanism implemented at an academic nursing school: a rapid-cycle Nursing-AI Challenge followed by a year-round Nursing-AI Studio

Etiquette of the antibiotic decision-making process for surgical prophylaxis in Ethiopia: a triangulated ethnographic study.

BACKGROUND: Prophylactic antibiotics reduce surgery-associated infections and healthcare costs. While quantitative methods have been widely used to evaluate antibiotic use practices in surgical wards, they fall short of fully capturing the intricacies of antibiotic decision-making in these settings. Qualitative methods can bridge this gap by delving into the often-overlooked healthcare customs that shape antibiotic prescribing practices. AIM: This study aimed to explore the etiquette of the antibiotic decision-making process of surgical prophylaxis antibiotic use at Tikur Anbessa Specialized

Development and content validation of the checklist for assessing placement of a small-bore chest tube (CAPS) for small-bore chest tube placement.

BACKGROUND: Small-bore chest tube (SBCT) placement via modified Seldinger technique is a commonly performed invasive procedure for treatment of pleural effusion and pneumothorax. When performed suboptimally, it may lead to serious complications. Validated checklists are central to teaching and assessing procedural skills and may result in improved health care quality. In this paper, we describe the development and content validation of a SBCT placement checklist. METHODS: A literature review across multiple medical databases and seminal textbooks was performed to identify all publications des

Intrascrotal Testicular and Extratesticular Epidermoid Cysts: About Two Cases.

Painless solid testicular masses on ultrasonography are commonly malignant. However, if the lesion is well demarcated, rounded, and hypoechoic with alternating hyperechoic and hypoechoic layers, and no internal vascular flow, the possibility of an epidermoid cyst should be considered. Epidermoid cysts are uncommon benign testicular lesions and are extremely rare in the intrascrotal extratesticular region. Including these cysts in the differential diagnosis may allow the urologist to perform testis-sparing surgery. Teaching Point: The possibility of an epidermoid cyst should be considered when

Middle Colic Artery Originating from the Gastroduodenal Artery Discovered during a Whipple.

Hepatic artery variations occur in about one-fourth of the population, are frequent questions on standardized surgery exams, and are often discussed on teaching rounds with an attending surgeon. Intraoperatively, it is important to be aware of possible vascular anomalies in order to prevent ligation or injury of an essential vessel. This case report describes an extremely rare vascular anomaly encountered during a pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple operation). Our patient was a middle-aged woman who was incidentally diagnosed with a cystic pancreatic lesion. During the operation, an aberrant mid

"Nightmares-Family Medicine" Course Is an Effective Acute Care Teaching Tool for Family Medicine Residents.

INTRODUCTION: Simulation is an effective method for teaching acute care skills but has not been comprehensively evaluated with family medicine (FM) residents. We developed a comprehensive simulation-based approach for teaching acute care skills to FM residents and assessed it for effectiveness. METHOD: We compared the effectiveness of our standard acute care simulation training [Acute Care Rounds (ACR)] to a more comprehensive simulation-based acute care program, Nightmares-Family Medicine (NM). We used a self-reported comfort scale as well as video-captured performance on an acute care Objec

One-Shot Box-Centric Teaching for Persistent Robotic Sorting-and-Filling with Relative Pose Constraints.

Robotic sorting-and-filling tasks in flexible manufacturing require robots to reproduce specified in-box arrangements while adapting to variations in container poses, object availability, sensing conditions, and external interventions. This paper proposes a box-centric one-shot teaching framework for robotic packing tasks with relative pose constraints. In the teaching stage, a human operator demonstrates the desired packing layout only once. The system uses reference-prompted SAM-based contour refinement to extract box and in-box object contours, object categories, quantities, and relative po

Development of low back pain curriculum content standards for entry-level clinical training.

BACKGROUND: The management of low back pain (LBP) is highly variable and patients often receive management that is not recommended and/or miss out on recommended care. Clinician knowledge and behaviours are strongly influenced by entry-level clinical training and are commonly cited as barriers to implementing evidence-based management. Currently there are no internationally recognised curriculum standards for the teaching of LBP content to ensure graduating clinicians have the appropriate knowledge and competencies to assess and manage LBP. We formed an international interdisciplinary working

Point-of-Care Ultrasound Education for Pediatric Residents in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

INTRODUCTION: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is ultrasound performed by the provider at the patient's bedside to answer a specific clinical question. No guidelines exist for teaching POCUS to pediatric residents, and there are currently no pediatric-specific POCUS resources on MedEdPORTAL. To fill this gap, we designed an educational resource to introduce pediatric residents to POCUS during their pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) rotation. METHODS: Our POCUS curriculum included content on ultrasound basics, lung ultrasound, and focused cardiac ultrasound. Residents completed a precourse
