Training support staff to embed teaching within natural routines of young children with disabilities in an inclusive preschool.

We evaluated a program for training 4 support staff to embed instruction within the existing activities of 5 children with disabilities in an inclusive preschool. The program involved classroom-based instruction, role playing, and feedback regarding how to effectively prompt, correct, and reinforce child behavior. Descriptions of naturally occurring teaching opportunities in which to use the teaching skills were also provided. Following classroom training, brief on-the-job training was provided to each staff member, followed by on-the-job feedback. Results indicated that each staff member incr

Safety and Feasibility of Long-Term High-Intensity Interval Training With and Without Peer Support in Cancer Survivors.

Despite the benefits of physical activity and exercise, including high-intensity interval training (HIIT), few cancer survivors meet the exercise oncology guidelines. Emerging evidence suggests peer support (i.e., assistance from individuals with lived experiences trained in behavior change techniques) may improve exercise adherence, yet its long-term safety and feasibility remain unclear. This study evaluates the safety and feasibility of 12 months of HIIT, with and without peer support, in cancer survivors. Breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer survivors completed 4 weeks (12 sessions) of

What training and support do people need to make optimal use of automated insulin delivery systems: Interview study.

INTRODUCTION: Despite increased use of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems, limited attention has been paid to users' training and support needs. Indeed, most guidance has been driven by clinician opinion rather than users' experiences and needs. We explored the experiences of adults with type 1 diabetes initiated onto AID to make recommendations for supporting optimal use of AID systems in routine clinical practice. METHODS: We conducted interviews with n = 22 individuals who used the Tandem t:slim X2™ with Control-IQ technology AID system for ≥6 and ≤12 months. Data were analysed thema

Gut-derived small extracellular vesicles support trained innate immune tolerance in murine microglial cells.

INTRODUCTION: Microglia are the resident immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS) that maintain tissue homeostasis and contribute to the pathogenesis of neuroinflammatory disorders. As innate immune cells, microglia can acquire memory-like states that exert long-term effects on CNS function and disease susceptibility. Increasing evidence highlights a dynamic interaction between the gut microbiota and the CNS, shaping microglial maturation and responsiveness throughout life. In addition to soluble microbial metabolites, gut-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs), including vesicles of mic

Dealing with the extraordinary: how a community of practice supports resident training during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

BACKGROUND: The practice of medicine occurs within a community of practice (CoP), where learning is shaped through shared purpose, the interaction of members, and the development of collective knowledge and skills. Through experiential learning, medical trainees become healthcare professionals within this community. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional training models, requiring residents to adapt under extraordinary circumstances. This study applies a CoP lens to explore how residency program directors (PD) perceived residents' learning, competence development, and adaptation during th

Reflecting the voices of prison officers with respect to their support, supervision, and wellbeing training needs: a reflexive thematic analysis.

Prisons represent a significant public health concern. The challenging living and working conditions within prisons are widely acknowledged to contribute to elevated rates of ill health among both prisoners and prison officers. Officers hold a vital role in supporting individuals in custody. However, the intense pressures associated with the role, compounded by toxic workplace cultures, are frequently reported to negatively impact their wellbeing. This deterioration not only affects officers personally but can also compromise the effective functioning of the prison service. While structured su
