Alchemilla mollis (Buser) Rothm aerial part and root methanolic-water extracts were evaluated for their hepatoprotective activity on carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity and hypoglycemic activity on alloxan-induced diabetic mice. None of the tested extracts exhibited effects on blood glucose levels. However hepatoprotective activity results have revealed that serum ALT levels were significantly lowered by both the aerial part and root extracts at doses of 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg. Histopathological examination showed that A. mollis aerial parts and roots induced significant recovery from c

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Recurrent aphthous ulceration is the most common oral mucosal disease known. It presents as three types: minor (most prevalent), major and herpetiform. However, there are no well established effective and reliable treatments of this condition. Alchemilla vulgaris (Lady's Mantle) has traditionally been used in oral hygiene and was recently shown to accelerate wound healing when used in combination with glycerine. The objective of this study was to determine whether this combination is effective in the treatment of the most prevalent form of aphthous ulcers.

We studied toxicity and antiviral activity of bioactive substances extracted from the roots (ethylacetate extracts) and aerial parts (ethanol extracts) of lady's mantle (Alchemilla vilgaris L.). Plant extracts are characterized by low toxicity for continuous Vero cell culture, but inhibit the reproduction of orthopoxviruses (vaccinia virus and ectromelia virus) in these cells. Of all studied extracts, ethylacetate extract from lady's mantle roots characterized by the highest content of catechins in comparison with other samples demonstrated the highest activity in vitro towards the studied vir

Alchemilla subcrenata Buser is a montane Alchemilla (Rosaceae) species with established traditional medicinal use but only limited prior phytochemical characterization, restricted to preliminary observations on phenolic content and peroxidase activity. This study reports the first systematic optimisation of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) conditions for this species using a Box-Behnken design within a Response Surface Methodology (RSM) framework. Three extraction variables, ethanol concentration (30-70%, v/v), solid-to-liquid ratio (1:10-1:20, w/v), and extraction time (10-30 min), were si

Cancer cells undergo metabolic reprogramming to sustain proliferation, resist apoptosis, and adapt to oxidative stress. In the present study, we comparatively evaluated the anticancer effects of four medicinal plant extracts (Inula helenium, Hypericum alpestre, Rumex obtusifolius, and Alchemilla smirnovii) on HeLa cervical cancer cells, with particular emphasis on oxidative stress, l-arginine metabolism, and cellular energy pathways. Cell viability was assessed using the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay, while biochemical colorimetric methods were used t

Loss of skin elasticity is one of the main problems of ageing. This is a mechanical property influenced by elastin, a protein in the dermis which, together with collagen and glycosaminoglycans, makes up the connective tissue. This tissue is affected by a large number of events (such as cutaneous ageing, pregnancy, slimming processes and cellulitis) which eventually cause it to change. At the same time, the metabolism of the proteins of the connective tissue decreases and there is an ever greater presence of enzymes, principally elastases and collagenases, which are responsible for breaking dow

Unidirectional liquid transport is critical for diverse applications, e.g., atmospheric water harvesting, integrated microfluidics, and high-efficiency heat transfer. However, existing strategies are mostly limited to narrow surface-tension ranges. Here, we designed bioinspired asymmetric cilia arrays (BACAs) mimicking the 45° inclined cilia of Alchemilla mollis, achieving unidirectional liquid transport over an ultrabroad surface-tension range of 22.2-72.8 mN m-1. Systematic studies show that transport modes depend on surface tension, solid surface energy, and cilia spacing. For 0.6 mm-spaced
