Cystic hypersecretory ductal carcinoma (CHDC) is a rare distinctive variant of ductal carcinoma that behaves in a low-grade fashion. This rare form of breast malignancy has only been reported a handful of times in the surgical literature. This article outlines the clinical presentation, workup and management of a 43-year-old woman who presented with a bilobed cystic mass of the right breast diagnosed as CHDC.

In breast cancer (BC) pathogenesis models, normal cells acquire somatic mutations and there is a stepwise progression from high-risk lesions and ductal carcinoma in situ to invasive cancer. The precancer biology of mammary tissue warrants better characterization to understand how different BC subtypes emerge. Primary methods for BC prevention or risk reduction include lifestyle changes, surgery, and chemoprevention. Surgical intervention for BC prevention involves risk-reducing prophylactic mastectomy, typically performed either synchronously with the treatment of a primary tumor or as a bilat

Squamoid eccrine ductal carcinoma is an eccrine carcinoma subtype, and only twelve cases have been reported until now. It is a rare tumor and its histopathological diagnosis is difficult. Almost half of patients are misdiagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma by the incisional biopsy. We report the thirteenth case of squamoid eccrine ductal carcinoma. Female patient, 72 years old, in the last 6 months presenting erythematous, keratotic and ulcerated papules on the nose. The incisional biopsy diagnosed squamoid eccrine ductal carcinoma. After excision, histopathology revealed positive margins. A wi

Squamoid eccrine ductal carcinoma (SEDC) is a rare and under-recognized primary cutaneous tumor with a high risk for local recurrence and metastasis. The tumor has a biphasic histologic appearance consisting of a superficial portion indistinguishable from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and a deeper component demonstrating eccrine ductal differentiation. Because of superficial sampling, SEDC often is misdiagnosed as SCC during the initial biopsy. The diagnosis usually is made during complete excision when deeper tissue is sampled. Confirmation of the diagnosis can be achieved by immunohistochemi

Squamoid eccrine ductal carcinoma (SEDC) is an extremely rare cutaneous tumor of unknown etiology. We report the case of a 77-year-old man with a history of treated chronic lymphocytic leukemia along with numerous basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas who presented for evaluation of a 5-cm, stellate, sclerotic plaque on the left chest of approximately 2 years' duration and a suspicious 3-mm pink papule on the right nasal sidewall of 2 months' duration. Initial histology of both lesions revealed carcinoma with squamous and ductal differentiation that extended from the undersurface of the epid

Management of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) has evolved from radical surgery to the option of a more minimally invasive approach. Data show that breast conservation surgery performed with administration of radiotherapy, like mastectomy, is feasible and safe. Because efforts to find a safe group for elimination of radiotherapy have resulted in data that conflict, radiotherapy still remains standard of care as a part of breast conservation for DCIS. Tamoxifen has also shown a significant recurrence benefit and has become standard in the treatment of receptor-positive disease. Investigation of

EPIDEMIOLOGY: Presently representing 15 to 30% of new cases of breast cancer, ductal carcinomas in situ do not have specific epidemiological characteristics. The age at which they occur is between 49 and 54 years.
DIAGNOSTIC METHODS: The diagnosis is evoked primarily when confronted with an area of micro-calcifications discovered on a mammography. Needle aspiration cytology, useful in cases of palpable abnormalities or infra-clinical masses, is of no interest in isolated micro-calcifications for which surgical biopsy following radiological localisation is the technique of choice. This paper aimed to analyze the clinicopathological characteristics of invasive ductal carcinoma with an invasive micropapillary carcinoma component (IDC + IMPC), invasive ductal carcinoma with a ductal carcinoma in situ component (IDC + DCIS), and compare the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis to those of IDC.A total of 1713 patients (130 IDC + IMPC cases, 352 IDC + DCIS cases, and 1231 pure IDC cases) who underwent appropriate surgery from June 2011 to September 2017 were retrospectively selected.Compared to the pure IDC and IDC + DCIS patients, the IDC + IMPC patients present

BACKGROUND: Invasion is often found during postoperative pathological examination of cases diagnosed as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) by histological examinations such as core needle biopsy (CNB) or vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB). A meta-analysis reported that 25.9% of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) cases are preoperatively diagnosed by CNB as DCIS. Risk factors for invasion have been studied by postoperative examination, but no factors have been found that could be obtained preoperatively from blood tests. In this study, we investigated factors predictive of invasion based on preoperative bl

Cyclin/cdc complexes are known to function in cell-cycle regulation. Cyclin D1/cdk4 and -6 complexes, which functions as a G1-S checkpoint and cyclin B1/cdc2 complexes, a G2-M checkpoint are essential for DNA synthesis and mitosis, respectively. Thus, dysregulated overexpression of cyclins appears to be involved in uncontrollable cell proliferation and early tumor development. We investigated the expression and proliferative index of cyclin D1 (PIcyclin D1), cyclin B1 (PIcyclin B1) and Ki-67 (PIKi-67) using immunohistochemical staining on 15 cases of ductal hyperplasia (DH), 26 cases of atypic

The authors present the third example of an eccrine ductal carcinoma of the eyelid. A woman in her early 70s presented with a lesion of the central right lower eyelid margin in the vicinity where an actinic keratosis was diagnosed by biopsy 2.75 years previously. Her dermatologist and ophthalmologist monitored the area of actinic keratosis, and it was stable for 2.5 years until the area became ulcerated and thickened with the loss of eyelashes. A wedge resection disclosed a squamous cell carcinoma in situ and a separate eccrine ductal carcinoma. The eccrine ductal carcinoma had in situ tumor t

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a relatively common diagnosis among women undergoing screening mammography. The greatest increases in DCIS incidence have been in non-comedo subtypes of DCIS that are not associated with subsequent invasive cancer. After a 500% increase in DCIS from 1983 to 2003, the incidence of DCIS declined in women aged 50 years and older, whereas the incidence in women younger than age 50 continues to increase. Having undergone mammography is one of the strongest and most prevalent risk factors associated with a diagnosis of DCIS. Other risk factors for DCIS are similar

Little is known about the ultrasonographic (US) features of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast because this entity usually manifests as pure mammographic calcifications and is rarely evaluated with US. US findings were recorded in 70 patients with DCIS and then analyzed and correlated with mammographic and histologic findings. A microlobulated mass with mild hypoechogenicity, ductal extension, and normal acoustic transmission was the most common US finding in DCIS. Spiculated margins, marked hypoechogenicity, a thick echogenic rim, and posterior acoustic shadowing at US often sugges

Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) are relatively common breast lesions on the same spectrum of disease. Atypical ductal hyperblasia is a nonmalignant, high-risk lesion, and DCIS is a noninvasive malignancy. While a benefit of screening mammography is early cancer detection, it also leads to increased biopsy diagnosis of noninvasive lesions. Previously, treatment guidelines for both entities included surgical excision because of the risk of upgrade to invasive cancer after surgery and risk of progression to invasive cancer for DCIS. However, this universal ma

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical, therapeutic and prognostic features of ductal carcinomas of the parotid gland.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Five patients with ductal carcinoma of the parotid gland (primary and secondary carcinoma) treated, between 2007 and 2019, in our ENT department, were reviewed.
RESULTS: Four men and one woman were included. The mean age was 61,4 years. One patient had a history of an invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. Four patients consulted for swelling in the parotid region. One patient referred to our department for dysfunction of facial nerve. Skin invasion was fo

The objective of the study was to evaluate the reliability of sonoelastography in ductal carcinoma in patients in primary and secondary health care settings. Google Scholar, PubMed, Medline, Medscape, Wikipedia and NCBI were searched in January 2018 for all original research and review articles to identify relevant studies. Two reviewers selected the articles independently for based on the title and abstract. The selection criteria were sonoelastography accuracy for diagnosing ductal carcinoma as index text, B-mode sonography, and micropure imaging; surgery and histologic findings were used as

The breast cancer has become more frequent with women lately. The reasons for that are longer life, effects of external factors and hormone effects, estrogen in particular either natural or synthetic. Today's trend is to detect these tumors in situ in early stage where two types of lesions are distinguished: ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and lobular carcinoma in situ. It is important to determine by means of histochemistry receptors for estrogen, progesteronee, C-erb B-2, p53 and profilic nucleic antigen (PCNA) in tissue of these tumors not only for prognostic importance, bat for selection o

The eleventh case of primary infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the vulva is reported with a review of the literature. The infiltrating tumor is associated with an intraductal component as well as noninvolved mammary-like glandular tissue (ectopic breast tissue) and metastases to inguinal lymph nodes. Estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor immunohistochemical staining is negative utilizing the HSCORE method. The treatment regimen is patterned after approach to node-positive breast carcinoma.
